After my DA XS 40 developed a problem with it leaf shutters, they all fell out and were floating around inside for the second time, (it was repaired under warrenty the first time) I sent it of to Alan Marlow in the UK to repair it. The repair was quick, good value and it was good being able to just call someone directly and discuss the problem over the phone. His website is here: CAMERA REPAIRS, LENS REPAIRS in WEST LONDON , SURREY , TW17 , TW18

I just got the adapter from SRS Microsystems in the UK and asked about the tripod mount. They had one left, but said they could get them from Pentax. Cost of the mount was £39, and was marked up as the 38100 Pentax Tripod Mount for DA*300. It came retail boxed as an accessory.

I have to completely agree, I have also used him to repair a DA XS40mm that had developed a problem with all of the aperture blades floating around inside the lens. Turnaround was a couple of days, cost was very reasonable and the lens has been fine ever since.

Here in the UK there is Harrow Technical. They only do film Pentax cameras and manual lenses. Clear pricing on their website. Apparently made up of old pentax techncians. Web is here: Pentax Camera Repair Specialists - Harrow Technical

I tried with the on camera flash and it was ok, but off camera was much better. I just used one of those cheap remote triggers.

A tip for focus is to place the tip of a pencil where the water drops into the pan and focus on that. An assistant comes in handy for that !!

Abstract Yellow Water Droplet

After many attempts, I managed to capture a water droplet using my K5 with an old Vivitar 55mm 1:1 macro. My set up included a dining room chair on the kitchen worktop next to a window. Water dripped from a bag attached to the underside of the chair, with the window light diffused with coloured tissue paper. The water was dripping into a roasting tin, and a off camera Pentax flash was used stacked on toilet rolls to get it to the right height!!

Hi, I've just joined the forum after using Pentax for many years, starting my Pentax journey borrowing my Dads K1000 over 20 years ago. I have used many cameras in the intervening years and still use film in some old rangefinders, but I now manily use a DSLR and have moved up through a ist DL2 to a K200D a K-X and now I have just recieved a K-5 purchased on Friday, which I am currently playing with.

Interestingly, it was only made this year, it had the Pentax Ricoh label on it but it was still on firmware 1.01, so I have updated this as my first job. After taking a few shots, the increase in quality is clear, so I am looking forward to getting out this weekend and giving it a workout.

I also use a Panasonic Micro 4/3 mainly with a 14mm prime, so I do a lot of zooming with my feet, but it is great with older pentax glass.

Thanks, Twevor.
