Gave it some consideration as well, but once you factor in exchange rate + no warranty, decided against the order.

This would have been perfect if the AUD was still above parity.

That's cool, no worries, just thought I'd share my thoughts as I have owned both the Q + K01 in the past.
The Q definitely punches above its "small sensor" weight and is pretty fun but just don't expect K01 IQ just because it's "interchangeable".

The Q7 is the latest model in the series, which has the same sensor as the Mx-1. The original Q has an even smaller sensor, pretty much the same size as you'll find in P&S. But the Q7 has only been just released and retails for like $579 paired with the slow kit lens, which is out of your budget. I'm not pushing the MX-1, just throwing it out there given you were considering the Q and had a tight budget. But like I said, the MX-1 retails for like $400, so it's not exactly within your budget either.

But the sensor is better than that in the Q, and the MX-1 with its fast fixed lens will give you noticeably better IQ (similar range but faster) than the Q with the two lenses thrown in. So I'm not exactly sure why you would consider the Q and not the MX-1, unless you are planning on buying more lenses for the Q which would mean you will blow your original budget. Didn't realise you are in Aust, you'll only find the MX-1 for $250-$299 new in the US, so kinda a mute point now.

If you thinking the Q, why not consider the MX1, faster zoom lens, more compact overall, tilt screen, better IQ... Woot was clearing them out for like $299.

Item for Sale
Pentax FA43 (AIV)

Asking Price
500 AUD

Item Location
Darwin (Australia)

Item Description
I'm moving to m43 so have the following item for sale:

1. Pentax FA43 (AIV) - Purchased in March 2013 from Amazon USA directly. To manage expectations, please note there's some slight play/wobble in relation to the front inner barrel, however that's how it was when I bought it and have since read this is a common occurrence for Limited lenses. Never bothered me as everything else (i.e. focus ring etc) is solid tight and it produces sharp pictures. It actually locks focus better than the 40xs that originally came with the K01 and is definitely sharper too. If you're after a lens that has no play/wobble whatsoever, look elsewhere.

For US buyers, I will include a copy of the Amazon receipt for warranty purposes, Amazon never printed my name or address on the actual receipt, so I assume you won't have any issues using it for any US warranty claims. Accordingly, there's still 9 months of warranty available for US buyers. I purchased this lens before the recent price hike, had limited use, so it's priced to sell at $AUD500 + shipping. Registered shipping via Australia Post to US should be around AUD$35.

The FA43 is open to both Australian and US buyers. Other international buyers welcomed, but please understand there's no warranty.

For Paypal add 3%.

Cheers

Just wanted to gauge peoples' thoughts on this controversial and short lived camera. Will this end up in the scrap heap (like most consumer electronics) in years to come or retain/increase in value - wishful thinking?

I'm not really "that" peeved in all honesty, I had plenty of chances to buy the DA21 in the past month like you said, but decided not to pull the trigger each time, so I agree, it's my fault. I guess my surprise being new to Pentax / dslr lens market in general is how prices can fluctuate so wildly without any logical rationale. The price swings are nuts.

Exactly! The DA21 was not even on the list of recent US price increases, so got no idea why they choose it to have a 33% price rise. They must randomly draw lenses out of a hat when it comes to price rises. The DA21 is definitely not a $599 lens.

Before the recent price rises, the FA31 was going for $950, FA77 - $770 and FA43 - $584.

Knowing that it used to be $448, I definitely won't be buying it at the $599 price, a price rise of 33% is unjustifiable and definitely can't be blamed on slight currency fluctuations. Pretty poor form I say.

My thoughts as well, thus the reason for the frustration, here I thought CRK were finally given us Aussies a good deal after being screwed for so long...knew it was too good to last.

I'm a tad peeved as I was tossing up with buying the DA21 for a while, but with the latest price increase, I'll just buy a Ricoh GR instead.
