You guys are funny :) Thank you for the comments.

@Outis, did you mean 'Sony' instead of 'pony'?

@Sandy, I think you nailed it.

@Billk, Ricoh will make a gold plated one just for you :-)

@Stevebrot, if you don't ask... (you may not get what you want).

@enoeske, glad you agree.

@clackers, they are important, agreed, but they are also expected features due to the DSLR architecture, sensor type / size, and the bigger body / battery.

Pentax FF essential features

I would like to list the features that I use on a camera that makes my life easier and will have an impact on whether I would purchase a Pentax FF:

1. Tilt screen, not a flip out.
2. Focus points that cover the screen.
3. Light weight, not too bulky.
4. Manual focus aids like focus peaking.
5. Image stabilisation.

After using a mirrorless camera, the above features became so useful that I only missed the image quality, shallow DOF, high ISO and battery life of a DSLR, nothing else. The Sony A7II (Amazon $1498 ATM) has most of these features, except for a good battery life.

If Pentax can deliver on the above features as well as an enthusiast-friendly price of < $1600, I will be first in line for a new FF :-)

Regards
Bernard

Thanks southlander,

My 10 year old daughter took the one of the daisy, the others I took in our garden this weekend.

Cheers

Bernard

Hi Patrick and Gary,

Thank you for the kind words. I found the forum when I did some research on what used lens to buy for the istDL. In the end it was between the SMCP A and SMCP FA 50mm 2.8 macro. As the former is manual focus, light weight and one of the last 'old style' lenses we decided it would be the best for learning the ropes for our kid. The informative reviews on this forum clinched the deal.

Cheers

Bernard

Hi, my name is Bernard, I live in Sydney Australia. My Dad had a Spotmatic years ago and it introduced me to the magic of the Pentax brand. I am using an istDL at the moment that I bought for my daughter. She is 10 and takes slightly better pictures than me with it. :)

Cheers
