Thank you for your astute "critique"... there are many points of realism in this scene.

Taken in 2013 while touring Rome, I dug this up and processed for the contest. Shot at ISO80 although the aperture was not recorded in the metadata... so f11 for most of my work seems right. I decided to process in B&W then add some of the effect that day had through use of LR5 and Photoshop CS6

Price for K1 ?

If it comes in around say $2500 my question to all is this... Why not consider the 645D? I have seen these around $3K body only and I do have an old mint A series 645 45-85mm f4.5 lens I have played with on the K5 with some nice results. I know... don't jump all over me for the MF use on crop sensor, but it does work very nicely! Anyway, I would really appreciate some discussion on a MF jump from the K5 and optionally bypass the K1. I work most all the time in Landscape mode and some portrait work. I am considering seriously the Canon ProGraf IPF6400 24" printer since they have come down in price, or the new Pro1000 17" in conjunction with either camera choice.

I think a discussion on the pros and cons FF or MF is needed at this level of technology/pricing. Personally, I truly believe 40MP MF will be far superior to 36MP FF. I agree up front the FF will have a lot more bells and whistles for most, and that's why I would probably keep the K5.

This may not be the thread for proper response, so if anyone knows of one, please let me know. I have searched this AM without real success.

No I don;t hate Sony... just never thought of it as a go-to next camera. I doubt I will ever release enough funds to go 645z, but I would love to find a way!. It will be a major step up when the K1 is released, so regardless of the price point, it's got to be a good next step. Anyone know how non-DA lenses will effect the FF K1?

I love my K5 and have use it for many years, however, this year I really started getting the urge for a FF but could not see going to Sony a7RII. I have had Pentax since the early MX series, learned on it and still have some of my original glass which was great on the K5. Since the 645d started coming down in price I gave it a lot of consideration as landscape photography is my niche... but those lenses!!$$$$

I can not be happier and always knew it was a matter of time before we all saw this. I agree, there will be a rush to purchase this but I do think (hope) it will be under $2500 body only. Sony seems to be chewing up the FF market at this time but I just can not go there... I'll take 36mp over 42mp to stay with Pentax. I also understand we will have a number of lens choices right out of the gate, and I believe options in camera for the DA series. That makes a big difference over the limited $$$Sony offerings.

I (think) I can wait until late summer hoping for a bit of price reduction, but that will be tough and over the long run - who cares?

Cactus V6 Radio Trigger Review

Yes it can, however, it must still be positioned to be optically triggered by the flash. You could use a piece of white cardboard or something that will direct the flash into the V6 sensor. I am still playing with something similar that will stand up and still looks nice.

Many thanks to Class A who, with patience, explained how to make Hyper Speed Sync all work and allowed me to see how wonderful the V6/Rf60 combo really is in my HSS setup. After 2 weeks of doing things wrong (LOL) It all made sense this morning. Using a Sigma EF 610 DG Super as a trigger in FP mode on my K5, I mounted the V6 on a Bower bracket and aimed it up to the Sigma flash head. Once the settings were dialed in on the RF 60 slave it all worked like a charm. Here's a link to the bracket setup for those interested - works every time. However.... I see the Sigma is maxed out at ISO 1600 so I suppose pushing past that on my K5 settings will not work? Have not had the opportunity had to try it yet. Only potential issue - it's going to be a difficult hand-held setup with my 60-250 lens!!!!!!

BTW... 91 ms delay on the RF 60 slave works like a charm!

A-50mm 1.7 vs M-50mm 1.7

From my old film days I would think the 1.4 might be have an edge based on speed and sharpness (even if you have to stop down 1 you have the edge) but for price and general use, I really think my first purchase choice will be an M 50mm 1.7 (rather than the "A" after all this discussion. It's said that there is a learning curve with the buying of lenses. Use one...if you like the results, stick with it. If there are constant issues that bother you, change it for one that corrects that issue. Personally if I were you I'd keep the 1.4 for sure!

BTW...I also LOVE the quality of construction of the "M" over the "A" and I think to me that makes a real difference. TMHO!

Not sure yet as it has been MANY years since I used such a lens, however, I have read (and someone can correct me if mistaken) that the 1.7 gets better results when stopped down to 2.8. Reading posts in the Pentax lens forum reviews there is a definite "quality" distinction with the 1.7 in that many more users have regarded it as superior. I suppose it all depends on the user, the light available and the shot you need!! Since maost of my work will be without flash... I am still tilting to the M 1.7 version and pick up an "A" for flash use. We'll See...

The trigger voltage I found was from Powershot Posts which seems to mention a lot of these older flash units. Will see if there is any other referrence before going there!

I have in my old collection a Starblitz 5000 that seems to only need some corrosion removed from the base locking clip. I am in the process of cleaning it up and see if it still works. With manual power adjustment and double flash it should be a great unit....once again!!

Yes I am tending to agree, and I just found out that the "A" version of the SMC 50mm can be turned off allowing me to use it in both modes. I take it that any lenses I look for might be better if the "A" can be turned off for versatility.

OK, now this is making sense! Looks like the A is my choice - did not know you could disable "A". Also, on the flash issue, I have been considering the Vivitar 383 for this setup - any thoughts from you or Elliott? Thanks for this input!

Thanks Elliott - I also read an issue with the M when trying to fire a secondary flash. I suppose the A handles that without problems also. I really prefer old school manual and it looks like it can be done with the "green" button.
