When I picked my K7 on Monday, I played around a bit with it that night. I experienced the exact same thing you did, though I was only noticing the line at ISO 1600/3200 - on the lcd. In each image the line was in the exact same place. I didn't fool around with it too long that night as I had a long day, but when I woke up Tuesday morning I took a few more shots - and the line was no longer appearing! I had used live view and movie mode a bit on Monday - no longer than 5 minutes I'd say. One difference though is that my shots on Monday with the line were using my Sigma 70-200 @ F2.8. In the morning I put the kit lens on and shots were at f4. I didn't save my pictures from Monday night. Wish I had.
More testing coming when I get some time.... Damn work...

Dr. Who - I was at McBains today on 107th and the girl told me their Pentax rep told her that it was delayed until maybe mid-July! I really don't think they know when they'll be in! :( All the staff there were wearing very nice Pentax Golf Shirts!

Part 3: At Work
Shot of a man at a Cigar rolling operation west of Puerto Plata. The operation resided in what amounted to a small hut and consisted of four employees. 2 Cigar rollers, 1 Packager who put labels on the cigars and put them into boxes, and one cashier. I believe the tour guide mentioned that they produce about 100 boxes of cigars a day ranging in price and quality. Tobacco is purchased from a factory in Santiago.
The rural poor of the Dominican Republic have no access to laundry machines. This young woman has pulled her wash bucket into a small stream and cleans her family's clothes there.
I was standing on a dirt road taking a picture of an eagle when I glanced over my shoulder to see this bearing down on me!
Moments later I was relieved to see that the herd was under control! |

Part 2: Adults
This young man's delivery truck has broken down on a street in Cabarete. He patiently waits for help to arrive and several minutes later some friends show up and help him push his truck out of it's spot and down a very busy street.
"Hmm. Now that's mighty fine" - A young Dominican thinks to himself as he checks out a senorita's assets on a street corner in Puerto Plata. You can see in the background an old man driving a horse and buggy. This is a fairly common mode of transportation in the Dominican!
The main method of transportation in the Dominican Republic is the moto scooter. While I don't think this is in any way a stellar photo, it does contain three interesting items. 1. No one wears helmuts (though I later found out that there is an actual helmut law and bikes are impounded with a fee of 100 pesos to get them back). 2. The lead scooter has a Gas Cylander strapped to the back of it!!. 3. In the upper right corner is a sign for a bar named Jose O'Shay's. It is a great Irish pub on the beach at Cabarete where my wife and I had our first date!
Young man pass time during siesta sitting on a bench outside a tavern. While the Dominican people are quite poor (though these boys may not be as their attire does not indicate that) I will say that they are a very happy people. It is hard to find one that was not smiling! |

Two Saturdays ago my fiance and I were married in the Dominican Republic where we had met almost three years previous. After the wedding we took a jeep safari tour and most (but not all) of the shots are from that tour.
All shots were taken with K20D and Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM II and most were taken from a Jeep with very poor suspension on a very bumpy, unpaved road, handheld. SR got a work out! I was very impressed with the Sigma's quick focusing. I started out the tour with the Tamron 28-75 but quickly found that it could not focus fast enough from the moving jeep so I switched to the Sigma.
This first series is of people divided into three parts: Children, Adults and At Work. If there appears to be any interest in these photos I'll post two more series: Dominican Scenics and Animals of the Dominican.
Part 1: Children
Brother and sister pose for a photo outside their school about a half hour west of Puerto Plata. The boy seemed very timid about having his photo taken, but his sister comforted him by taking him in her arms.
This young girl admires her freshly picked flower on the front porch of her home.
Young school girl plays with her dog on her school's baseball diamond. The weeds you see around her serve as the diamond's outfield wall! |

Ok - I still am not sure what represents a 100% crop - but here is the duck cropped a lot more! Perhaps a 'tiny' bit of CA on the highlights on the beak.

No - not 100% - just cropped around animal for sure. Will post one at 100% (When I figure out how to do that in Lightroom - When I Zoom out to 1:1 and then press the crop tool, it zooms back out...)

I think there are several forum members debating between this lens and the Tamron. I went down to a park by my house yesterday to specifically take some shots at 200mm/F2.8 which is one of the conditions that DPreview in its review of this (non-K mount) lens was critical of.
1. ISO 200 200mm/2.8 on Monopod No PP
Original
Crop:
Judge for yourself, the review indicated softness at these settings... Pretty sharp to my eyes...
The review also mentioned significant CA at these settings. In all my shots yesterday at these settings I did not see any CA, EXCEPT when I added the Tamron 1.4 Tele
2. ISO 200 200mm/2.8 + 1.4TC on Monopod no PP
Original
Crop
So on the crop - I do see a bit of green along the top of the beak, but nothing too bad I think!
And a quick note on using the Tamron 1.4 with this lens. It seemed to want to focus past infinity a sometimes as I could here kind of a "clicking" noise as it focused out...

And this one from a walk in the forest early this morning. Can anyone identify the car?? Not much left...... |

I think the reach on the 300 is fine, and if you need more you can add 1.4 Tele. The IQ of the lens is great so you really can crop. Everyone is right though, F4 is probably not fast enough at night to freeze the action unless you really wanna crank up the ISO especially if . I prefer the motion blur.
This shot at Fenway is from about halfway up the grandstand, night game, no tele. ISO 400, F4, 1/125. |

Hi all. Sorry I haven't posted any images since I got this lens, I ended up with a hell of a cold after my return from Boston and NY (which seems to always happen when I return from vacation). A friend asked me to come out and take some shots of her fashion show last night (she owns a clothing store), so I thought this would be a good first opportunity to use this lens. I'll preface these shots by stating that I rarely shoot indoors, I much prefer shooting wildlife and sports, and it is really my first time with a flash to any great extent.... but what the heck. Thought I'd give it a shot. Venue was VERY dark. Focus was tough!
Only PP is exposure adjustments and Noise removal.

I returned from a trip to NY on Tuesday where I had picked up the new Sigma, and thought I'd just let the group know that HSM/Autofocus DOES work on a K20D WITH a Tamron 1.4 teleconverter attached. Though in low light it hunts like crazy, good light seems pretty good... Though I've only really done a couple of quick test shots (Will try to take some good shots on the weekend and post).
A couple of quick comments on the lens and purchase.
1) This lens seems fricken HEAVY! I haven't actually weighed it but my DA*300 seems much lighter.
2) Feels a bit awkward to turn the zoom (handheld) the way the tripod mount is positioned, at least the way I hold the lens... but as I mentioned it is heavy and probably should be on a tripod or minimally a monopod anyways.
3) I went into B&H Photo on Sunday (my first time there!!) to try to purchase this lens, and I was told by the sales person that they have it in stock, but only at the warehouse and for web sales only. I asked him if he could bring it in for Monday and he said no. So dejected, I walked back to my hotel and along the way stumbled upon a smaller store called Tri State Photo. I went in and enquired at the availability of the lens and was told that they didn't have it there, but COULD have it for me on Monday. So I picked it up Monday as promised. The sales person there's name was Steve, and he was really helpful! A good experience there!

I must say I went into yesterday thinking Manny would still be the Sox cleanup man at the end of the day! At two o'clock I was having mixed feelings regarding the trade. Happy that the cause of many aggravations was gone (Run out that grounder Manny!!), but saddened at what could be a huge blow to the Sox's offence. Mad that I think we got to little for him and gave up to much.
Jason Bay is no slouch though, and as a fellow Canuck, I'll be sure to root him on. (I hope he performs better than the last Canadian - EG!)
All in all though, I have to remember Manny was part of the 2004 World Series team that contributed to the happiest moment in my life. I wish my grandpa had been around to see it.
So good luck Manny!
Nice shots Pat!

Thanks to all for the compliments! The first two pictures I'd say were shot at about 25 yards. The bear was walking toward me and I had a bunch of fallen trees behind me making an escape difficult but I managed to get around them. That was not the closest I got though, about 5 minutes later I was turning around one of the cabins there and he was again walking toward me but this time at about 30 feet. I let out a loud yell and ran the opposite direction. At about 10 strides I looked over my shoulder and saw that my yell had scared him and he had turned around and was quite far the other direction. Whew:eek:
Here's one more of him getting pretty close to the Chalet's staff accommodations:

Ha! that's funny Gooshin, because many of us in Western Canada can't understand why you idiots in Ontario keep voting Liberal and then go crying for increased transfer payments as your province's economy declines.
Keith Olbermann is a moron.

Interesting. Noticed that Henry's in Canada, who for the longest time didn't take paypal (so I've used Prodigital - whose prices I think are better anyways) have just started taking paypal. Maybe a sign? Being forced?

The lens was $1399 - so a little more than what I see advertised in the US - and they are notoriously slow at updating their website!

Buffy & Pat - Thank you for quick replies and info! Very helpful! I woke up at 4am to watch the game this morning and with it going into extra innings now I'm gonna be late for work!
My ticket does not say obstructed view so i at least assume there are no poles in the way. I wasn't sure if netting counts as an obstruction!
You should have seen me cry like a baby when I opened my present in front of 14 friends! I've been dreaming of going to Fenway my entire life, but living in Western Canada, my scarce holiday $$ have always gone to get me out of the cold to warmer climates!

To celebrate my 40th birthday, my fiance has rewarded me with a trip to Boston and tickets to see my beloved Sox play the Yankees on April 12th and I'm excited to take my new K20D on this trip:D!
I do have some questions I'm hoping someone in the NE area can help with that I've had trouble finding on the internet.
1. Any favorite camera stores in the downtown area? I see many Ritz Camera stores on the Google Map (and I have been to Ritz's in there US cities), but the others I see have little info and bad or no websites that I can find?? Any good used camera stores?
2. On the Red Sox/MLB website, it says that cameras are allowed, however I've seen this before at other stadium's events, only to arrive and find out there is a limit on focal length of lenses or "professional" looking equipment. Does anyone know if any such limits exist at Fenway?
3. My tickets are in section 23 and I'm trying to find out if these seats are obstructed by foul ball netting. I guess I can call fenway for this but I thought I'd ask here first!
Thanks in advance for any help!
Mark

I just received a 45 degree split with grid from seller: photo_gadget_germany in China that I purchased for my fiance. Took about 1 1/2 weeks for delivery. I'll report back on how she likes it as soon as she has it installed on her k10d!

Picked one up at 11AM Tuesday morning at Don's Photo. $1475 for Kit w/18-55 II. I think it was their only one, they did have a K200D that looked pretty nice on quick inspection!
