This little guy just begged to have his picture taken and he picked a great stump during a snow storm to enhance the photo.

Found this unusual flower by chance and fortunately had what I needed to get a close up image.

Glad these shots helped you with your decision. My favorite lens is still my 77 limited which I use for indoor sports, portraits and many everyday shots but this 100 macro is often on my K3. ---------- Post added 08-04-16 at 12:23 AM ----------
So far I have been pleased with the results without a flash like the samples I posted, but at some point I plan to invest in a ring flash for lower light situations. ---------- Post added 08-04-16 at 12:25 AM ----------
Glad these shots help with your decision. I think you will love the k3ii as I really love the k3.

I have been very impressed with this lens using it hand held for most of the shots below. Shifting to manual focus on the fly has helped secure more good shots.

I would advisenature and sports shooters to use manual in order to make quick adjustments toexposure settings as I do with my K3. Constantly changing subjects and lighting conditions, based on yourchanging physical position, require changes that other modes can get wrong dueto mixed lighting etc. Also, planningahead for shutter, aperture and iso settings, based on subject, conditions andpast experience, will improve results. Lastly, practice shots at the location, under similar lightingconditions, can greatly increase the number of successful shots. I took a number of practice shots of divingsea gulls in order not to miss the shot I was after, a fast diving Osprey.

Thanks. One of the reasons for sharing the pics was to show how productive that inexpensive lens can be. I also use it to do paid sports photography (lacrosse) at a local college.

Thanks for the many nice comments on my Osprey pics. They are difficult birds to photograph but I am lucky in that I have a boat and regularly cruise the Hudson in the Piermont area taking photos of the TZ bridge construction and looking for Osprey action. The photos I posted were taken near the Piermont pier where bait fish regularly congregate near a sewage treatment outlet pipe. I know, not a pleasant thought. However, there have been days when I have seen multiple Osprey working that location giving me good opportunities for action shots. Cormorants also work that area with great success catching and devouring large fish. Often, when I return to the marina, these big beautiful birds are sitting on pilings waiting for the picture to be taken.

Sorry about small size, I need to figure out what size image will upload properly giving a large view. I was worried about the large file size warning from the forum directions.

Nice to see my K3 with a kit 55-300 telephoto can produce high speed nature images of descent quality. I love birds of prey, especially the Osprey, and finding them near home is always a treat. I look forward to picking up the new 150-450 lens but for now I will have to be satisfied with the 55-300 and some serious cropping.

Other members have clearly explained the difference between aperture and focal length for prime lenses. My suggestion for a versatile prime is the FA 77mm 1.8 lens which I use for portraits, indoor sports, family functions, weddings, school functions as I am a teacher and yearbook photographer for a few schools. I love this lens and it has made me significant money towards purchasing other lenses. Sample images can be viewed at hofferimages.smugmug.com

Telephoto kit lens on a tripod, mirror lock, wireless remote trigger, nothing done in post process other than cropping. I was impressed with the clarity and reach of an inexpensive lens. It makes me want to get a quality telephoto like the new 150-450 Pentax glass now being offered, but that would be financial lunacy!

I have used my K5 with both the 31 and 77 mm limited prime lenses with great results at school and professional concerts. The combination of bright spots used in performances and the k5 low light capability work well. I usually shoot in manual and adjust aperature and iso to get a shutter speed that produces clear pictures.
