That is my point. The live and let learn part is that there is nothing I can do now about it. I shoulda coulda woulda given her the kx to use, but didn't. It is not her fault. She is a child, and it could have happened to me too. I was just frustrated at the fact that I had it less than a month part. Also was worried about rusting. I know now that is won't rust, and will be having my kx serviced to give this creative young lady for her birthday!!

the camera is pretty much brand spankin new...and yes, I see shiny metal, so I was worried about rusting.my k-x had cheaper plastic lenses, so when it scratched, it was still white underneath, just a scratch.

my new baby is christened...the lens barrel has a nice little paint ding in its otherwise pristine snow white sparkle paint. Its about 4.5 mm by 1.5 mm of a scratch. But I guess that what I get for letting my 12 yr old niece take a bunch of photos on auto today...Had I thought it through, I would have given her the k-x to play with, but we were already out by the time she wanted to take some shots of the parade...anywhoo, anyone know if there is a touch up kit I could get? Do I need to worry about this rusting? Could I send this in for a touch up? Would this be covered in my added on protection falls and spills warranty? Do I not worry?

The 50-200 is not WR. I had that lens from my kx. If a matchy 50-200 exists in white in WR, it will be mine! Haha. I would love a white with black inside lens hood if that exists too. :)

Ha, no I work in an eye dr's office as a dispensing optician. My husband apparently managed to find this on Adorama. I had the other lenses and the white strap from my storm trooper k-x. I still need to get a soft case, and lens hood, as well as am looking at the aa battery holster. I am excited to get to know this little lady. Now to decide if I am going to keep or sell my k-x... thoughts on that?

I just received my early x-mas/ birthday present from my husband, and it is an all white k-50! White with white grip. I am coming from a white k-x, and what I notice is that the white balance sems to be a lot Bluer in AWB than my K-x. My K-x shot a bit red till I had it adjusted for my colour preferences. The menus are a nice easy progression to navigate. The second adjustment wheel is going to be a very nice addition. I thought the weight of the k-50 would be much greater than the k-x, but it honestly isn't much of difference. Like just a few grams. The grip is just a hair too deep for my bitty hands compared to the k-x, but I am sure that is something I will adapt to. There seems to be less noise in higher iso's and low light. I haven't done too much side by side comparison as I just received it last night! My only gripe so far, and I mean this is a petty silly one mind you, is that the finish on the k-50 is a matte finish rather than a gloss. I am afraid this textured finish in white will hold dirt much more than it's gloss counterpart, and right now, it just feels weird to me since I have had the k-x for 5ish years. What do you guys think of the matte finish?

I think at this point, this is all beyond my capabilities. The cost of the repair when talking to pentax, it seems useless and Id rather save up for a new camera. maybe ill just sell this one as is and use that toward my next body

upgrading from k-x should i go mirrorless?

Im looking to upgrade from my Kx right now too! I'm curious to see what you land on. For me I am personally between the k-50 and and ks-1 b/c i need something smaller bc i am a tiny person, and I am a more casual shooter... I have an 18-55, a 50-200, and 35mm. I had not considered the mirrorless k-01, that is an interesting choice.

NO sound is made when i press the button. I can force the flash up and after a few times it starts to pop on it own, but as soon as the camera is off and sits or a bit, it would go back to not popping. AT this point, NOTHING is happening at all with it...

external light meter?

Does anyone out there still use an external light meter? Or do you all just wing it and see? Take test shots in auto, then switch setting depending on the situation? What is your technique for getting the best exposure for the situation? I feel my Kx is a little on the underexposed(dark) side, so I have gone back to using the trusty old sekonic.

any other ideas? I tried opening her up and looking under the hood, but she didn't seem to have anything miss aligned. when I manually press the lever inside, it pups right up, so it is not the spring, but seems to be something with the wiring not communicating with the flash for it to pop....and that is where i draw the line. I called pentax about sending her in for a check up, but it seems the cost of the repair would not be worth it. ANY IDEAS?

k-50 or k-s1

Gosh I wish there was someplace local that carried Pentax. I think at this point I really want to "feel" the cameras. My K-x is very natural and comfortable for me. it fits in my small hand perfectly and feels balanced when shooting, so I would hate to upgrade to something that wasn't right in that way for me. It also needs to be intuitive for me, but I guess with use everything becomes intuitive after a bit of use. I honestly think pretty much whatever I get that is on the market right now will be an upgrade to my k-x. I just want it to be worth the money for the upgrade. I work optical retail, so I'm really not in a position to get something and not like it. I more than likely will not be using this to "add to my collection" but to replace my k-x.

Yes, I admit, I do really like the looks of the K-S1. It is very pretty, and the white one would look great wearing my white 2.4 35mm limited :)

but anyways, between the k-30 and k-50, I am really not finding much difference between them, is there? Why would i go for one over the other besides the "look"?

I have realized that water resistance really doesn't mean much to me b/c none of my lenses are water resistant, and I probably would be doing a "body only" so at this point the thing that means the most to me is sharpest/ least amount of noise image quality! I will be looking for some photo comparisons to be making my final decision. It looks like on amazon, I can get the k-30 and k-50 body only for right around $400, and the ks-1 actually is cheaper with the basic lens than without for $670.

Yes, the kx does have a diopter. I do feel like it the af does get a little jumpy sometimes not being able to focus quickly. Maybe i'll upgrade, Maybe I won't, maybe I'll wait till after xmas to see what other price drops we get.

Oh yes I get that. I am still in the early stages of this consideration. And am looking to find a good excuse to upgrade I guess. ha. We all love our toys dont we? I am not sure yet If I will keep my kx as a second body. It being light weight makes it great for hiking, but I still feel I want more out it. Maybe I am am not using it to its potential, That is a possibility, however, I am not satisfied with its low light images. so here is what is important to me:

lightweight/ fits well in hand( my hands are small)
easy to use/ interface
compatibility to my other lenses
low noise
shake reduction( i do not always have steady hands being small and cameras being heavy)
vibrant color to images
precise autofocus ( have have bad vision, so for me to manual focus would result in blury images)
the water resistance sound intriguing, but not necesarily necessary.

I guess that is the main things.
