Does a camara benefit the same way a human eye does wearing premium sunglasses? UV/Polarized lenses at the beach, in the snowy slopes or the open ocean? Are these filters just for effect or is there a reasonable benefit to place one on your lens under these conditions? |

You might want to practice your stalking skills, seriously. I fish flats and do a little hunting. Stalking your pray unoticed to get the optimum placement in order to cast a fly or take a shot is a challenge. Same applies to photografy.

For what it's worth, I got the 18-135 and plan to keep it and buy a WR zoom lens, 55-200 or 55-300. I live in the tropics and vacations are in the snow. If the 55-300 where WR, no brainer. List your needs and proceed accordingly.

At the end of the day, gun restrictions restrict guns from law abiding citizens. It does not work as a measure to prevent crime.

I fail to understand the point you are trying to make normhead. I can tell you the situation where I live which is Puerto Rico. It was recently identified as one of the most dangerous places in the world. It ranked 15th! We have a competent "state" police force, municipal police forces and they work in conjuction with the FBI and other Federal agencies. Gun laws? There is no gun right but a privilege, law being currently challenged for it's unconstitutionality in light of the SCOTUS decisions in recent years. Here is how it works. You want to purshase a firearm you need to file a petition for a gun permit. You are thoroughly investigated by the Police Department (in addition to all federal requirements). Your wife and family are interviewed. Your neighbours are interviewed. Needless to say, you must have an impeccable criminal record. Fees run in about $1,200.00 to get your licence. Once you have your licence, you must pass a gun handling course, which is not a joke but a real gun handling course in self defence and a crash course in the legal implications of outing and using a gun in most possible scenarios. We are talking here an excess of six months in bureaucracy and paper shuffling. So, you got your licence and you pass your course. You buy your handgun and have to wait an additional 3 days to get it (Federal mandate). If you wish to carry, you need a onceal carry permit and that is a full fledge court case where you have to show a judge and convince the State Prosecutor that you have a special need and that carrying a concealed weapon is justified in your particular case. Jup. Criminals get full auto weapons, readily available which are not even available to law abiding citizens or even the cops. A new illegal handgun is cheaper in the street than the same legal in an armoury. The sale of ammunition is strictly supervised, only possible with a licence on a armoury. Yes, the Federal government keeps track also of the sale, purchase of ammunition in Puerto Rico. Even if you have a licence, you can only buy ammunition for a gun you have registered. All guns are registered in a Gun Registry, not only the first but subsequent sales or transactions of a legal handgun must be registered in an armoury so both the State and the Federal government know exactly what guns you posses and how much ammunition you have purchased.
15th most dangerous place in the world. And to top it all of the current gun law did NOT come to be in reaction to crime but the opposite. Gun laws have been much more restrictive due to fears of rebellion during the 19th century and early 20 century which are today unfounded. Civilians are at the mercy of rampaging criminals. Google "Puerto Rico and criminality". So, I can tell you that Puerto Rico is proof that gun control does not work. So is the State of Florida and Alaska, and Vermont.

Is the spoon at fault for Rosie O'Donnell's obesity? Are the pencil, pen or keyboard at fault for grammatical errors? Restricting guns restrict guns from law abiding citizens. If you want to analyse this particular situation, those guns legally belonged to the mother. Her son aparently had psychiatric problems and was on medication. Common sense (which is aparently lacking and not so common anymore) dictates that if you have guns in a household whre there is a person experiencing mental and or emotional problems or instability, those guns should have been kept under lock. The inmediate party at fault for this tragedy is the mother for failing to properly secure her firearms in light of the particular circumstances of her son.

Ok Language barrier. I'm bilingual but English is my second language and sometimes I think in Spanish and write in English and the meaning gets skewed. What I ment to say in fewer words was that I was looking at prices in ebay and most where over the $1,000.00 mark and some over $1,100.00. Buying at Andorama like suggested and for the price you correctly indicate prooved to be cheaper. Nontheless, it came to about the same since I purchased a battery holder and requested express shipping.

Thanks again. I'm going to buy a camera soon, most likely with the 18-135 kit lens. It would be my first "nice" camera and probably my only lens for a long time, the next probably being a zoom for capturing wildlife and such. Too many hobbies competing for limited funds.

For close up shots, the iphone camera is really good! Those where taken with an iphone 4. I hear the iphone 4S and 5 have a better camera and the upcoming 5S is supposed to be considerably better than it's predecessor. Those are not touched up or processed in any way. Just point, tap the screen for focus and click! I really think there was no technical knowledge or doing from my part to capture the images, except maybe the foresight in thinking "That might be a good picture." Then again, there are hundreds or thousands of digital pictures in my computer that are not as flatering to the photographer as those two. :-)
