I have limited experience and with cheap lenses only, but I would consider:
- Samyang 85/1.4 (the infinity focus was off, just put some paint on focusing ring to "calibrate" it, need to stop it down to f 2.5 - 3.2),
- SMC Pentax-M 35/2 (the A 35/2 will be the same),
- SMC Pentax-M 135/3.5 (stopped down),
- SMC Pentax-A (M) 50/1.7 is good at f 2.5 esp. if you consider use it for some panoramas (for which super cheap Rikenon 50/2 seems also good enough wide open).
SMC Pentax-M or -A 28/2.8 is also OK for panoramic photos if you do not mind stitching 4+ of them.

I was sure I will retire mine after I bought proper astro camera. But when real winter comes I think Q is the winner for me because of no need for laptop and other related equipment.

I use 300 mm with first Q, so 400 mm Lunt telescope with tad bigger sensor of Q7 should be great.

Just uploaded some profiles from Squirrel Master (!) and used them to develop some Pentax K-r files (for ISO 5000 I chosen ISO 12800 profile as the sensor is older and more noisy).
Previous version from PDCU files first, then RT with the Squirrel Mafia profile, just spot the difference! Both versions enjoyed almost the same post work in Sequator (specialized astrophotography software in which 3 photos plus some dark frames for noise reduction were stacked/combined). PDCU version had no noise reduction applied, RT version some, but it is still much sharper and better defined IMHO. |

Stars over campfire. K-r with SMC Pentax-M 35/2 at f2.8 3x3s plus some dark frames stacked in Sequator.

Very nice colors (and typical for K200D btw)!

Both (PIPP) and AstroCrop are nice programs, both are freeware btw. ---------- Post added 12-12-23 at 05:41 PM ----------
I use genuine Q for solar photography with simple Baader film, with Lunt you should have much, much better reuslts. I have no clue if you need small EQ-mount in this case, or the sun is bright enough in such a narrow band. Let us know, please!

...and DA 40XS looks like "nothing" on big camera making it easy to start conversation with stragers :)

But in the same time it makes it easier to use with no tracking, maybe with some TC even. After all one can always crop before stacking. We have some free software like AstroCrop for this available.
Lunt should have T-mount screw, so easy to use with the camera.

Honestly with sun normal tripod and fast burst mode should be enough. I do not think it will be possible to set AT type to work in this case, as it seems it has to have stars in the frame (I mean small ones) to make initial calculations.

Using zooms at extremes might help slightly, as all FL positions in between might be aproximated (in steps, I mean ...100mm, 135mm, 150 mm...) But it is splitting hair sometimes.

Mode 2 seems to be compromise, but quite useful if I imagine making panorama of Milky Way plus landscape. Even if single frames will be (slightly) blurry, the whole panorama might look very good with correct settings.
