Get up: Dark... Come home after work: Dark...
Kinda "forced" to work with the household items for now, and finding interest in every day object can be challenging at times.
Regards,
D ---------- Post added 01-17-2020 at 05:47 PM ---------- Found this part of James Clear writing rather interesting: "...On the first day of class, Jerry Uelsmann, a professor at the University of Florida, divided his film photography students into two groups.
Everyone on the left side of the classroom, he explained, would be in the “quantity” group. They would be graded solely on the amount of work they produced. On the final day of class, he would tally the number of photos submitted by each student. One hundred photos would rate an A, ninety photos a B, eighty photos a C, and so on.
Meanwhile, everyone on the right side of the room would be in the “quality” group. They would be graded only on the excellence of their work. They would only need to produce one photo during the semester, but to get an A, it had to be a nearly perfect image.
At the end of the term, he was surprised to find that all the best photos were produced by the quantity group. During the semester, these students were busy taking photos, experimenting with composition and lighting, testing out various methods in the darkroom, and learning from their mistakes. In the process of creating hundreds of photos, they honed their skills. Meanwhile, the quality group sat around speculating about perfection. In the end, they had little to show for their efforts other than unverified theories and one mediocre photo..."
So let the daily self challenges continue!

Indeed glad to hear that you are safe! What a horrible times Australia is going through. Working with cancer patients for many years, I've developed rather "thick" skin, one almost has to imo (don't get me wrong, I'm still very compassionate), but every time I see your country's animals in the burning fires, the photos of what this fire left behind, everything inside of me just turns inside out!!! Very best wishes to all!

Cheers all!
Over the last few years, I noticed that I've gotten "lazier" and lazier with the use of "camera" built into the smartphone. Less demanding, there at any time, effortless... And with that, I also noted that I slowly drifted away from photography in general because of that... Changing it this year, I miss the camera and lenses, the feel, the touch and the shallow DOF that I love. Challenge from me to me this year, get re-acquainted with the camera gear.
Happy New Year all!

D

Thanks!
Indeed, my thoughts exactly. Snap and go, no much thought process, not much effort... Smartphone indeed have their place: great for quick captures on the go, like documentation of transmission rebuild for example.
At the same time, while looking through some of the first DSLR photos, 2006, with good ole K10D and a single lens I've had at that time - great memories, enjoyed every day using it for quite some time! What I also realized, that less lenses I've had, the more photos I took and more successful I was and delivering something to my own satisfaction.
With that in mind, as an additional challenge from me to me, this month is a Single camera with a single lens. It's time for me go back to basics!

D

I'm glad this thread still going - very nice variety of subjects everyone, well done!
After very long time, Lensbaby 2.0 was mounted to K20D and short trip to downtown, old cemetery. Light rain, gloomy day just felt right for in-camera filtered B&W, and also added plastic filter, wanted to see how it would compare to "Plastic Optics" that Lensbaby offers...

Good to hear you got one pingflood - now, share your photos with it! ;)
Ok, let's not allow this one to die! Some African Art - outdoor exhibit, I've approached it once before with regular lens, but was not able to get a feel/character this artwork presents. Something was "missing"...
So yesterday morning, cold rainy day, before work, I tried these subjects again - must admit, I'm happy with results (LB 2.0 wide open):
C&C always welcome!

Thank you very much, appreciate it!
Now, I've had the Pentacon version of Meyer Optik for a long time as well, 100mm f2.8, before I purchased it, after reading up some reviews, it was said to be identical to Diaplan in terms of optical construction and bokeh rendering, but as long as I've owned both, while I like Pentacon, my version does not do the bokeh balls the same as Diaplan, just not as pronounced...

Good to see a dedicated thread to photos with these systems!
I see great range of subjects, colors, fov and varieties of lenses, very pleased to see all this in one thread, thank you all for sharing and look forward to having this thread continued!
My E-P1 arrived today, and you know, how sometimes something just feels right the moment you get your hands on? Well, this little camera just feel right to me, right out of the box. I like the ergonomics, I like the size, and I do like the controls very much.
Not really interested in digging deep into the menu for the time being, rather just basic camera controls, and all the simple aspects (aperture, ISO, WB, focus selection and such) are right there - love it. No gimmicky options to control the exposure (which I may add, after very short time with it is very accurate imo)...
So no thrills here, just few quick jpegs. All f2.8, all at ISO 1000 (late and dark) with no post noise reduction
Grainy setting B&W...
The rest are Pinhole setting
Looking forward to taking it out to see some daylight!

D

Diaplan is definitely the one I was waiting for - it's bokeh can be very very unique... It is now inserted into Lensbaby Composer PRO, so it is fully functional in terms of focus, but also serves tilt/shift... lilies_diaplan_80mm_2 by Duh_Vinci, on Flickr

Well, it appears that there quite few of our members mentioned that they have Sears lenses. I think these are some of the best bargains out there (no Takumars indeed, but...), so let's see your takes with any Sears lenses that you own?
These are from m42 50mm f1.4 EE (meters very well on K100D/K10D in my experience) I also find this one to be a little sharper than K-mound version I had, and tends to have a little better contrast too.
All wide open
135mm f2.8, K-mount "A" with "macro" mode. This is the "unique" one with character for me. In non-macro mode, sharp and contrasty, but as you turn the front element to one of the 3 "macro" positions (more like close focus, since max is 1:5), wide open, it adds a soft focus and/or glow effect depending on the subject and lighting, and I like it.
All wide open with shortest ext. tubes:
Dusted this one off, 135mm f2.8 m42 EE. I like it, smooth focus, sharp, and the price ;) So wide open too. Fist one - little windy, but I liked the "painting like" appearance I got...
So please join me to in "celebration" :D of the sears club and post your takes on life with any of their old lenses! Look forward seeing all of your photos!

D
