Thanks for all the responses and information. I went ahead and ordered the kit with the 28-105 lens. In addition to the arguments made here, what tipped me towards the zoom is that it appears that I could probably save $300 on the FA31 by going used in the future, and as was pointed out, the grip is probably overkill for my usage.

Hi, Sorry for yet another of these type of threads, but...
I'm nearing the purchase of a K-1 to augment or possibly replace my K5-IIs. I enjoy landscape/outdoor photography and do very little indoor or portrait shots. On the K5 my go favorite lens is the DA15 but I also have the DFA 100 for macros (currently the DFA 100 is my only FF lens).
My original thought was to purchase the K1 with the FA 31, given that I already have the DFA100 and that I might eventually add an UWA lens like the Samyang 14.
Since then I've read that the 28-105 is really quite good and can be had currently at B&H as a package for only $300 more than the K1 body alone.
The problem is the k-1/28-105 package + FA31 really strains the limits of my budget.
One other factor is that if I buy the K-1 body separately it currently comes with the grip included.
So it comes down to:
k1 + grip + FA31 vs K1 + 28-105 and look for a used FA 31 down the road
Opinions?
Thanks,
Tim

A rather unique wildflower we get here in SE Minnesota in the early Spring. You can see how it got its name.

I was pretty happy with this picture of the Independence Mine in Victor, Colorado. It is processed with Topaz Clarity to bring out a little more contrast in the clouds. The ominous tone seemed appropriate considering the mine claimed the lives of 15 miners in 1904 when the cage they were riding up in fell 1500 feet down the main shaft. |

Took this on vacation this summer. Smoke from nearby forest fires made for some nice sunsets. |

Just a beginner, but I was pretty happy with how this shot in NE Wisconsin turned out with the 15 and an nd400 filter: |

Wyndstryder, thanks for the information. I purchased the lens used with no documentation and wasn't entirely sure of the purpose of the LIMIT knob. I'll give that a try next time out with it.

That's a beautiful shot. I recently bought a Tamron 90 for my K5 and am just getting used to it. For macro shots like this are you using a tripod?

Hi, I recently purchased a K-5 and Lightroom 4. In the little bit that that I've used lightroom I've found (as others have reported here) that the Adobe Standard Camera Profile results in colors that are somewhat dull compared to the K-5/Silkypix processing and that the "imbedded" profile available with DNG files seems to come closer to the K-5 processing. So a few questions:
- Are there any drawbacks using the DNG format vs PEF?
- Since the DNG is an unprocessed file, what's in this imbedded profile Lightroom pulls from the DNG? Does the camera add processing hints to the DNG?
- Finally, Does it make sense to use the lens and shadow correction in the camera or is it best left to lightroom?
Thanks,
Tim
