150-450 DFA will not auto-focus.

bought mine in June, 2017. never dropped or damaged; treated like a baby. today it just stopped autofocusing. not sure why, but it's not the camera, nor the user. I thought that the DC autofocus motor of this lens was a point in its favor, unlike the SDM motors of old. Fortunately, its still covered under a 3 year extended warranty. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What is the cause? Is there any remedy other than sending it away to the lens hospital?

Thanks! I was lucky to catch the face; burst mode helped. Probably would have been better with smaller aperture and lower iso if he had warned me that he would stop moving😆

K3 vs K1 ii:

Image Quality is similar; actually, to my eye, I can't really tell the difference between K3 (24mp), K1ii (36mp) and K1ii (crop mode, 15mp). Even pixel-peeping, they all look good.

Advantage of K3: smaller, lighter, works so well with small lenses like 20-40, 15mm.

Advantage of K1ii: geotagging, wi-fi for JPEGs, significantly better at high ISO (relatively noise-less to 3200), much better dynamic range, works so well with 28-105 "kit" lens, larger viewfinder, significantly better autofocus C mode.

Both are very nice cameras. I like having GPS built in, rather than trying to attach the external 0-gps1 device; it fell off and broke. GPS is a nice feature. Crop mode works great.

The AF experience of any K1 owners who upgraded to Mark II?

Just got my K1 upgrade back, and after several practice shoots I can state that the upgraded K1 (now mark ii) is an autofocus BEAST!
I could never use "Autofocus C" on the K3 or K1. Instead, I followed the advice of other more skilled photographers on the Forum, and shot bursts of moving subjects using Autofocus S. The K1 Mark ii Autofocus C mode seems to work well. Not perfectly, but much better than the "pretend" continuous autofocus mode on my prior Pentax cameras. At least 60% (or more) of birds are now in reasonably good focus, including the gull flying in front of the sail rigging. A friend with a Sony a-6500 tells me that his camera focuses quickly, but has difficulty separating subject from background.

So I think that the "Urban Legend" of poorly focusing Pentaxes can be put to rest.

Alternative choice for Ricoh Image Sync App - Pentax Photo Sync

Well worth the small price. This app works well with IOS. You still need to have the camera Wi-Fi paired with Pentax Image Sync to download photos, but the download process is much easier and faster than trying to download through Pentax Image Sync. Kudos to Xiaoming👍

Trade 18-135 for 16-50?

I own both. The 18-135 is a nice travel lens (lightweight, relatively quick autofocus). The 16-50 is definitely sharper, and the autofocus speed is almost as fast, and very accurate, even in low light. Despite its increased weight, I use the 16-50 much more. The image quality of the 16-50 is in a different league. I sold the 21mm and 50mm primes, as the IQ of the 16-50 was superior, and the “normal” zoom range more versatile. I’ve not had a problem with the SDM, and would ask Uncle Vanya to convert it if it were to fail.
