Thank you for the comments, the lens works fine on my K-1, unfortunately all i have is FA screw drive lenses!
kypfer - yes the little focus confirmation worked in manual focus :)
photooptimist - a factory reset is what i first tried (just through settings option) HOWEVER , thank you for the suggestion to downgrade, and then re-update the firmware. I didn't know you could downgrade, that's fantastic. this has indeed fixed the focus issue! now it's snappy and locks on as it should. and autofocus now works in live view!
unfortunately..... i must have spoken too soon (and not done sufficient testing) to check for the aperture block issue, because this is also present. cycling a few times in and out of live view seems to do the trick for now, but i think i will need to test my skills and do a repair. time to start searching the forums for info on the best solenoid to buy!
thank you again everyone for your quick suggestions! This mystery is officially solved. :)

Hey gang!
I got given a k70 for free when I purchased a lens off a fella near me.he said it was not working so he didn't want it. I assumed aperture block and thought I'd give it a try.
Turns out it's another odd issue with the autofocus. In live view it doesn't seem to af at all. Through the ovf it zips through quickly, and then racks veryyyyyyy slowly. But never locks on.
Thought it could be the af module being dirty, so I used a blower and it made no difference.
Genuine Pentax battery, firmware 1.13, and is the same with multiple lenses. Pentax k70 strange focus behaviour - YouTube
Any thoughts?

So i purchased a k5 for the purpose of doing this conversion. i downloaded the lens file and opened it in notepad++ and started to replace the C0 with 80.
i got to line 80.
and from line 80 through to line 152, ever single spot where there should be a pair of numbers or letters..... is instead just "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" "FF" etc.
is this anything to be concerned about? i dont want to copy this across to the lens again, just in case.
Every video or photo i have seen shows number and letter combinations all the way through the file. so i am a little concerned...
any advice? or should i just go for it haha ---------- Post added 12-07-20 at 05:29 PM ---------- Ok, took a chance anyway, since i had a copy of the original. loaded it on, and screw drive works. hooray!

Hi Nonism, did you purchase this lens from australia at all?
I had a copy of this lens with the EXACT same looking issue in the same spot. I had the lens opened by a technician here in australia and he cleaned all the dust out of it, leaving the exact same 2 holes in the name ring. he was unable to clean it, and indeed, we both concluded it was balsam separation.
I then sold it to another guy in australia who was aware of the issue when he bought it (at a bargain price) and in hindsight, i wish i had kept it. it was still a great portrait lens.
anyway, if you bought it from him and it is indeed my old lens, that would be crazy!
I have no solution for you unfortunately, but you should still be able to get great images from it :)

Hey guys.
I'm shooting the sigma 18-35mm with the k5, with far better focus accuracy than the k3 I tried it on. Lots of reports of bad focusing on the k3 and k3ii. As well as the k30,50,70 etc.
I've had the best luck with that lens on the k5 and my friends k5iis.
My question is, is anyone shooting the lens on the KP? Does anyone have any hands on experience? I love the lens but it drove me nuts on the k3. Hoping it's slightly better with the KP, but not holding my breath..... Haha.
Thank you

Thanks for the reply. I've seen plenty of others advertise this way, with the most expensive item being the one with the price. But I appreciate the feedback.

So much so, that when I upgraded to my K1, I decided to sell 90% of my crop lenses, and my immaculate K3, and pick one of these bad boys up to pair with the 21mm limited permanently and keep it in my work bag all the time!
Who else still has theirs? Of course it has limitations, but as a cheap and cheerful carry everywhere, high quality, not have to worry about it, ton of fun type camera.... I don't think anything out there can match it :)

You will be hard pressed to find one in better condition than this! Pentax (samsung) 10-17mm Fisheye. - $230USD / $330AUD
This is the samsung branded version of the pentax 10-17mm. as far as I know it is identical optically, just cosmetic changes on the outside that in my opinion look nicer, and match up more with the newer lens styling. and has a blue ring instead of green! also functions on the K1 at about 15-17mm
decided to keep my IRIX 15mm for wide stuff Pentax FA50 f1.4 - $155USD / $220AUD
The lens is in great condition, no fungus, haze, dust or scratches, just one tiny hair inside thats very hard to see and has no impact on images, I have 2 copies, and this is the cleaner version, almost all have some sort of dust that ive come across. selling because I dont use it often, and dont need 2! Pentax m42 28mm f3.5 - $60USD / $85AUD
Good condition, smooth to focus, optically excellent, no dust, fungus or haze. a super sharp performer, but I already have the K 28mm and FA 28mm, so this is surplus to my requirements. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Bugger. That's what I thought. Anyone know anywhere else other than eBay I could source a back? Or where someone may want a trade for a data back haha.
Thank you Kim! I'll go check it out :)

Hi all, I tried researching but couldnt seem to find a definitive answer. I purchased an LX recently from a seller who had no idea about it, turns out it works, electrics are perfect, slightly sticky mirror but I'll get it fixed :) anyway, it came with a dial data LX back on it (which I'm not a fan of) and I'd much rather the sleeker original back. Was it interchangeable with any other Pentax 35mm bodies at all? Or do I need to try find a specific back for the LX?
Considering I only paid 100 dollars for the body, I can't bring myself to pay 100 bucks for just the back on eBay, hence the curiousity if you can swap it with an MX back or anything.
Knowing my luck, probably not, but worth asking! :)
Lovely little camera however!

I stopped buying new gear about 10 years ago, since then I buy only used. Occasionally I have a bad experience, but it generally gets sorted with PayPal or the buyer. Just be smart when buying used online. Since used Pentax gear is rare in Australia compared to other brands, I don't often see much come up. Except for today, today I scored a deal and a half. A bright pink KR and a da21 for 165aud. (120us?)
So lens for me, and a bright pink camera for my partner, she might actually come along and get interested in my hobby with it.... Win win!

The k3 is my teleconverter! Haha. I meant due to the crop factor. I like having the second body, it compliments the k1 nicely :)

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions to everyone who has commented. However to those suggesting other lenses like the laowa and the 15ltd (a lens I want to get my hands on one day to see what the fuss is about...)
My question was proposed because I already have the 10-17mm and the 15mm irix and was trying to decide which one to sell. Not purchase another lens :)
Since I don't tend to do a lot of landscape, and the fisheye has the fun factor and flexibility of zoom and af, I am thinking I'm going to keep that one at this stage.
Actually I had another question, is the Pentax 10-17mm quick shift MF?
I actually own the Samsung branded 10-17mm in K mount and it has quick shift. The Schneider Kreuznach version. I owned the Pentax branded one a while back (6 years or so), and I don't remember if that version had it or not... Thanks!

To be honest I was leaning towards the 10-17. Even though it's not FF compatible, it's just so much fun!

So I have recently purchased a bunch of used gear, and as such I have both a K3 which will be my small travel camera, a 1.5x Tele converter for my Tele lens, and maybe hiking camera, and a K1 for everything else.
I have now got both the 10-17mm and the irix 15mm, and while I know they are different beasts altogether... I don't 'need' two wide angles, and by order of the minister of finance, I need to clean up the lens collection. Haha.
So do I keep the fisheye for the radical perspective and quick AF for when travelling, with the option of defishing, or... Do I keep the 15mm for slow deliberate lanscapes and a 'wide but not super wide' on apsc option.
At the end of the day, I know that only I should know what my needs are, but to be honest, I don't NEED either, but would just like one wide angle option.... So hence the question, what would YOU keep in a similar situation? :) Keeping in mind I've never sold an image, I only shoot for fun.
Thanks in advance :)

I think it is called a visoflex? and yes it does exactly what dms suggested. the coolest use of this i have seen online was where one user mounted it to the M mount module of the GXR and turned it into a frankenslr of sorts haha.
