Anyone else notice a trend toward decent carbon fiber tripods for little money? I recently picked up a fotopro X-Go Max with ball head for $169 on a daily deal at B&H. I bought it to have a lightweight tripod for hikes. It's surprisingly nice for the money. The last time I bought a cheap carbon fiber tripod ($200 Oben) it was pure garbage. It lasted months before it went in the garbage can. That was years ago. At the time, I said, never again. Now, it looks like you can get a decent product without breaking the bank.

Meh. I'm not exactly impressed. There's a lot of softness in those results. I'd like to see a head to head, but from what I've seen, DxO would win that hands down.

I was all set to pull the trigger on DXO PureRaw, but I may wait to see how this compares.

DXO Pure Raw doesn't post process your images for you, except for noise removal. You still have to put in some work to get the image where you want it. I'm not sure what you're terrified of. There's a lot of instruction out there on basic post processing.

I suggest the Sigma. Those extra 2mm make a difference. It can also be had fairly cheaply.

Well, I don't know that I would have bought Pentax if speedy focus was the main thing. That's clearly something brands like Canon and Sony are doing better than Pentax. Maybe the new K3 III ups the game a little. As for the two pictures you show, it's no contest. The KP shot is way better. I'm not sure there's anything sharp in that K50 shot.

Good job getting your foot in the door before it's gone. It's a lot of camera for not much money. And with the price of the K3 III at nosebleed levels, it appears inflation might be here for a while.

And out of stock at B&H. I suspect Adorama bought out B$H's inventory and jacked up the price.

Which has nothing to do with the point I made. A great photographer can make a great image with a 6 megapixel camera, but it's not going to have the detail that's in this photograph.

Camera should work with just the battery grip. In the battery select menu, mine shows full green on both batteries. If you tried two grips, you might have an issue with the camera connecting to the grip.

Might be slight variations in exposure. I downloaded the jpgs for both cameras at DP Review and found the differences to be negligible. If anything, the KP looks more saturated, but it looks to me like a slight variation in exposure.

Are they set to the same color space? Adobe RGB or SRBG?

The larger batteries last significantly longer. Coming from a K5, I was surprised how quickly the KP small batteries lost their mojo. Adding the grip with the larger battery is a big improvement. Neither charger will accommodate the other battery. You need both.

Another vote for the KP. Picked mine up from B&H last year. They thew in a battery grip for no charge. Very impressed with the camera. Easily the best deal out there right now.

Here's some shots of the $11 L-bracket. Works nicely. With the bracket as shown, you have access to both ports. If you snug it up against the camera, the DC-in port will be obstructed. All in all, a helluva deal.

My Ishoot L-bracket that I've been using for years didn't fit so well on the KP and grip. I had to hang it off the wrong side to use it at all. Now the vertical plate rests in my hand when I grip the camera. Not ideal, but I could work with it. That Three Legged Thing grip might work, but it's pretty expensive for what it is. I wonder if the shorter one might work better, since I only need access to the microphone port to plug in my remote shutter release. I found a much cheaper alternative on Adorama: https://www.adorama.com/ulz1132.html?=adl-gbase
Seriously, what's the difference, except price? For $11, it's basically the same design without the high price. I'll post an update when I receive it to see how it fits. It looks from the measurements like it will be just under the mic door when it's installed. That would be perfect.

The warranty is from Pentax and only covers manufacturer defects. Very good point on the credit card warranty doubling. Another option is to use the B&H Payboo credit card if you live in a qualifying state, which will save you the sales tax. You could then use those savings to buy the warranty which would extend the warranty another year over other credit cards.

B&H got in touch about the price difference. They wanted to charge me $114 for the 3 freebies (cheap camera bag, 32Gig SD card, and a camera strap) that I got when I bought the KP. I offered to send them back in a straight trade for the battery pack, so they eventually just said to keep everything and they would send the battery pack in exchange for charging me the difference in price between the two packages, which was $27. Killer deal.
