Excellent series. I'd give you a couple more likes for that third image if I could. Really nice flare and bokeh!
I have to take my medication for LBA now...

Your photos show that it is not the lens, but the photographer, the one with the know-how! :)

The only gotcha that took me a while coming from a K200D-and not at all related- was that saving a user setting is done after you've set up your parameters. I kept trying to enter into a setting mode, THEN making all the adjustments. Bonehead? Yup. That's life. Otherwise be sure to drink your Ovaltine while you confirm your latest firmware and upgrade if needed. What else? You'll get about 460 shots on a 16 gig card in RAW. The cheap Meike grip has served me quite well. Wasabi batteries along with their AC/DC charger is muy bueno. I like to try to standardize my control wheels, i.e front wheel is aperture value and rear is shutter speed......generally. Heck, I shoot TAv. I'm simple like that. Set aside time to shoot. Have the manual with you and don't be shy to look things up. Glossary. The manual can't go into the detail you seek, because any variation in settings leads to a new host of compromises that would have to be fleshed out-----and down the rabbit hole you'll go.
When frustrated with any machine:
1) Show the machine the cranial parking spot for your huge frontal lobe. Machine should be suitably impressed.
2) Demonstrate to the machine your articulated opposable thumbs. Machine will retreat to a corner and cower.
3) Command machine to do your bidding. See? Easy!

Just thought I'd share a little family Pentax heritage.
Back in the 70's and 80's, my father was very much into photography. He had his own dark room in our basement and a nice enlarger (I believe it was a Beseler but I can't recall for sure), and all his camera equipment was Pentax. Much of my childhood was spent waiting for him to focus his camera and get the f-stop and light right. :) When I went to college, he gave me one of his MX bodies and a 50mm lens for my photography class, which taught me the mixture of art and science that is manual photography. Unfortunately, my father was taken from us too early in a farming accident, so I get enjoyment out of those times when I see bits of myself in him. Just playing around with his old lenses tonight on my K-r is one of those such times. The lenses are all 25 - 35 years old and seem to work extremely well. While they may not be my first "go to" lenses for action photography or taking candid photos of the kids, I foresee them getting more use over the years.
What a fun way to marry classic photography with new technology! |

That is the same lens as the earlier Meyer-Optik Orestor 50/1.8, and it is a fantastic lens. One of my favorite 50s. Not for ultimate sharpness, but for character, and has the least amount of aberrations on digital I've seen from any lens that old. (That may just be because it is fairly low-contrast, but it isn't washed out and is easily boosted in post.)

I have one of these and love it (came off an old Praktica too!). It probably doesn't 'rate' well because its not pin-sharp across the entire frame (and its not an ltd prime :/).
BUT if you want a 50mm with real character, this is it right here.
(Nice shots from the mighty old K100d too!)

I have the m135 f3.5 and would agree with others that it is a solid performer. A couple of images.

I have the Auto Sears MC 1:2.8 135mm same as shown in your link.
I have never used it.
I used the Takumar (Bayonet) 1:2.5 135mm at indoor soccer this week and it suffers from flare and loss of contrast in the floodlights.
I just put the Sears on the K-01 and I will try to get some shots today.
135 mm is too long for me on aps-c, I suppose it is better on 35 mm.
