here's another. This shot was taken on my Galaxy S6 and edited in Silver Efex Pro 2 + Lightroom. Overkill for a cell phone shot? You be the judge. hanging on by nrrfed, on Flickr

As someone who has never even considered nature photography, Planet Earth was a huge eye opener. Everything was beautifully shot and it just made me want to go shoot.
So I did. In my backyard :) red by nrrfed, on Flickr lizard by nrrfed, on Flickr lizard #2 by nrrfed, on Flickr

I love my yearly vacation because it completely puts me outside of my shooting comfort zone. New places. new streets, new people. This year I wanted to focus on experimenting with new styles, mainly fashion inspired portraits (which I strayed pretty far off the mark from) and more cinematic style shooting. Obviously implementing these ideas while on the streets is easier said than done! I used a mixture of the 35mm f/2.4 and 70mm f/2.4 for the whole trip, and it was a pretty versatile combo.
I hope everyone enjoys at least some of these, because theres a wide range of styles :) jenn #531 by nrrfed, on Flickr jenn #532 by nrrfed, on Flickr obligatory subway bokeh by nrrfed, on Flickr IMGP4285 by nrrfed, on Flickr yes? by nrrfed, on Flickr jenn #533 by nrrfed, on Flickr dc metro by nrrfed, on Flickr

Greetings fellow Pentaxians,
Lately, I've been wanting to branch out a bit more and go back to shooting the simpler things, my pets! When I first started shooting these guys were the only things I'd shoot. Over time, and as I branched out into other forms of photography, I slowly started to neglect giving them the camera attention they so rightly deserve. best friends by nrrfed, on Flickr smokey surveys by nrrfed, on Flickr
Sadly, this didn't satisfy my photographic hunger, so I went down to my favorite park. I saw this little guy (among about 30 of his favorite ducks) floating by himself. The light was perfect and the way the shadow and his reflection matched up was totally unexpected and awesome. water bird by nrrfed, on Flickr
Alright, alright. Animals are awesome, but can you shoot something a bit more.. interesting? Fine.. passing by by nrrfed, on Flickr polarizing filter by nrrfed, on Flickr like all good things by nrrfed, on Flickr
So there you have it! I know it's a lot of shots, but I really wanted to have fun with a thread instead of just mindlessly posting shots. Hope ya'll like 'em.

I don't think I'll ever 'outgrow' this 17-50. It's just consistently great. street scene #22 by nrrfed, on Flickr street scene #23 by nrrfed, on Flickr
Yeah, I know this one isn't exactly centered but due to the nature of the gigantic monolight in the sky I didn't have any other options. I got it as close as I could while still blocking the sun with those cross-beams. I still love, love, love the light. into the sun by nrrfed, on Flickr

the blue windows in this shot turned the sky extra blue.. I decided to keep it as it was instead of lowering the saturation. blue windows by nrrfed, on Flickr

it works.. I've come to appreciate less-than-perfect sharpness and even deliberately putting shots out of focus. Nice shot :)

Like the title says, I've been getting really into Saul Leiter's works with reflections and he's been hugely inspiring. Let me know what yall think! |

Greetings!
I was at a work-meeting and saw this really nice see-through glass waterfall in the lobby of the convention center. As a general rule, I almost always have my K5ii with at least one lens with me at all times and I'm really glad I did today! I chose to use a slightly slower shutter speed to emphasize the motion in the water so as to give the shot an almost watercolor or abstract feel. I hope ya'll like it! You can of course click on the shot to view larger sizes on flickr, or look at some of my other work if you're so inclined :) watercolor in frame by nrrfed, on Flickr

I feel this shot really shows how far I've come in my photography. Even a few months ago I would've settled on just getting the shot of the statue and it's reflection and been happy with it. Now, waiting and working the scene is the name of the game. I saw the skateboarders approaching from the right and quickly juggled my settings to get to 1/2000s because if the guy was gonna do a trick I only had one shot to get it. Beyond happy with this shot and quit proud of it too.
I say I only had one shot because technically skateboarding is illegal in this park and the police had just arrived. The skateboard dudes got away, and I got a great story.

First shot from the Sigma. Seriously crazy performance. This shot was 1/30s, f/1.8, and ISO6400. Scary good. My quick calculation shows that to be right around 0EV and my Pentax/Sigma combo locked focus immediately which is a relief. I was a bit worried about ultra-low light AF with this lens.
And as always, here's a pet shot. The performance away from center is insane at f/1.8 and downright perfect in the center. |

This is from my first roll of film ever (well, I shot a roll when I first started but I'm not counting that!) and my first roll in the Maxxum 7000. You'd have no idea the camera was almost 30 years based on how it performed. Film was Superia 200. dock colors by nrrfed, on Flickr
