There are some people desperately looking for reasons to upgrade above. Based on available tech the IQ of the new model won't be much better than the K-70/KP. If you do landscapes macro or everyday photography you don't need a faster camera than the ones currently available. Those cameras have flippy screens.
It's only Sooner Caniac with his surveying gps enabled requirements that aren't met today. His needs, and mine, would be better met by a KP with gps but the improvements over the K-3II are rather slim.
So you either need:
1. Nothing new, you're set camera body wise
2. A camera for macro, landscape or travel --> Buy KP/K-70
3. A fast deep buffer camera for sports/wildlife --> Wait for this new model and buy it.
4. You want a camera that excels at sports and macro --> Therapy is the only solution. Or photography courses so you can figure out your interests. ;)
*all of the above are good generalist everyday cameras. If you dont have any special needs just get the cheapest available one.

Not the greatest results (regarding balanced background light to the flash).
I'll be spending more time on my next video to show proper balanced exposure in both normal P-TTL and HSS as well as manual and show from minimal power output to 1/1. Just to show how powerful the flash can be.
Now, one thi.... No, a couple of things to note for this video.
1) I only concentrated on exposure of the subject.
2) Don't ask me what the heck happened regarding shutter speed of 1/50 second (I did NOT touch the dial, and when flash was turned on, camera went right back to 1/1250th).
3) In the video you see me look a few times at the flash, I had the flash on earlier and removed it from the camera while still powered on (dumb I know) and when I put it back in the hot shoe (powered off) I was having an issue getting it to communicate so while shooting the video, I kept checking to make sure all was good. I wasn't changing any settings.
Well, now to the video... Youtu.be |

That's the built-in flash; it works very well for close-up if you can just get the light to the subject. I used my fiber-optic rig with it for a while and it worked well. I may revisit that solution at some point. I've also considered making a foil-lined tube that would attach to it and pipe the flash to a diffuser just above the lens. I'll report back if anything comes of that.

I just got my type s screen from focusing screen.
I had to use the thin shim with it, but the focusing is perfect with my sears 55mm 1.4
AF confirmation is a bit off, so I turned off the beep, and that allows me to focus manually without being distracted by the beeps.
And I gotta say, I am very impressed. Until now, I had been relying on AF and Katzeye focusing screen on my K20D, but I can see that this screen is a much better alternative without the distracting focus aides (split, microprism circles).
This is great and all that until f/2.8. Past that point, the viewfinder gets noticeably dark. 4.7-5.6 tele lenses are pretty much shooting in low light settings.I almost have to rely on AF to save my day in low light settings.

This evening image was shot recently in the city of Long Beach, CA at Shoreline Village, a marina with attached shops and restaurants. Shown is the lighthouse and a restaurant bearing the same name.
