An interesting observation about where we are today. Seems as we are hitting the wall in a way. Most digital pro and enthusiasts camera makers struggle

I found that this article is hitting the nail.

Of the Nikon Z9 and other new and upcoming gear - Luminous Landscape

Of cause author is wrong about Pentax. How many times has Pentax been doomed? 😁😁😁

How to cure a Pixelpeeper??

That IS the question.
Some sits there looking at their pics in 100% and over and worries.

I'm horrified - this disease can not be good in the long run!
For me It seems to be another hobby!
Why not start a special subject on the forum : "The Pixelpeepers club:" (I'm serious.)
Could be fun following their hobby!

We are making photos - aren't we - and uses whatever camera we have in hand?

OK - in the wet darkroom some sat there with the focusing magnifier and admired the grain and never got cured.
I was one of them - however now happily cured. That - because I got rid of my wet darkroom.

K-1 MK2 - Unhappy with results at moderate ISO settings

With greatest respect - I take photos and printing A2 - also A2 panoramas.

Here - This is extreme pixel-piping.
My customers are satisfied but mostly my friends.

I have a feeling of what You want - hey - just buy on - there is always a new out there.

However what I'm doing today is far beyond what I ever had expected some years ago,
Whoever looks at the fur in the corner - it could be worse -ok - I respect the talk and worries.
My spectators for sure do not even understand and look for it...

I now know that my K3 gives me better results because I can carry it - so not with my heavy K1 with "super-duper" lenses. (COST- Weight also that is/was)
My old wardrobed Hasselblade and film is far behind - even less weight than K1.

Just now waiting for a super simple/lightweight K3 with less knobes - I'm easily pay a lot for that one . ( Lens-Opening- shutter-speed-Iso)
Selling my K1 - as it today is the trouble of an old MF.

Please - this is no offend!

(Do Yo remember Pentax MX and Kodachrome etc? But today's nano-technique should be used to improve that.)
Whatever - rethink - please.
Film 24x36 why - think? APS-C I think is today's ideal - better than the film-size thinking.

With all respect - why all this pixel peeping when we already have IT?

OK - I could instead ask You how large a printer You have, WHO are setting YOUR demands and who the spectators are looking at those prints.

Help with K-1 and Sigma EM-140 DG Ring Flash

...I ordered and got an Sigma EM-140.
Have now used it some days on my K1 firm. 1.41. Lens DFA 100/2.8 WR. Also with PTTL -and if wanted autofocus with two piggybacked (hard to get) Kenko Pz-AF Uniplus Tube 25.
That is a total 50mm of extra extension and are able to autofocus as well - if wanted . Wow - what pics - just point and shoot.

By reading this thread I had worries before getting the unit and had thoughts of cancelling the order - but decided to at least test it.
However - all in all it worked as just out of the box as described.

Simply set the camera to AV-mode and use either manual focus or auto focus as I do with my other flashes.

Setup works with PTTL all the time.

As with other flashes in PTTL (as PTTL is often a bit tricky giving some over or under exposures) I often have to pre calibrate exposure by compensate a bit by changing the EV-value.

In a German forum "Pentaxians.de" - they have the same experience as I do.

Frage zum Makroblitz Sigma EM-140 DG ? Pentaxians

It seems that the OP there had heard rumours of this very thread and had worries as well.

However - that German thread shows that it should work all the time like as for me on the K1.

I think it's a great flash for a rather low price. Now I can recommend it.
The error mentioned here in this very thread must have another explanation. May it be settings, dirty contacts or something else?

(For those not knowing the German-language I hope Google translate might help.)

The Problem with Modern Optics

It's a relief - I found this place.

http://yannickkhong.com/blog/2016/2/23/the-problem-with-modern-optics

and then

The Lens Intention Diagram ? YANNICK KHONG

Now I know my love for the M50/1.7 K28/3.5 etc etc etc. and understand, I believe, why.

I pixel-peeped and have bought the other new lens after the other and COULD see the pixels - I wanted to be in line.
Prints perfectly sharp etc .... however I had lost something - for sure. Hard to explain.

There are many words lost on how I could not explain it .

But let us call it RENDERING!!! (You might have a better world for it?) The self-explained NATURALISM.
With the multi-glas digital lenses there are something lost.

CD vs vinyl?

I'm happy I kept those most beloved lenses that I started to buy in the beginning of the seventies.

DA* 60-250 mod for FF

Hallo - I can confirm this text!

I'm from Sweden and phoned the official Pentax rapair-place.

I ordered the part (tube plus part for the SDM-contact glued at it as described above)

For heavens blueberries do not unscrew the whole bayonet. Just remove the SDM - contact thing (two black screws) and the three chrome screws
around on the bayonet itself - symmetrically placed in circle 180 degrees from each other - leave the other (one) screw sitting there.

OK - that's done - lift out the tube together with the "SDM-part". Loosen the glue - and you have the tube in your hands.

Now what I did - I took the tube and "dremmeled" (Search for "Dremmel" - grinder?) away the baffle from inside and out - in order to keep the full length of the tube - cleaned it with compressed air etc - and dropped it back after painting the grinded surface with matte black. Fits perfect! Now I did put on the "SDM-contact holder" and fitted it in. The three screws back on the chrome bayonet holding it - and last I did put back SDM-contact itself. Take care - it forks in to the SDM-bayonet contacts and you must be sure that the tabs fits the forks on the bayonet. Back with the two black screws.

(Before starting buy yourself a professional philips screwdriver set and make sure the screwdriver has "full fit")

Voila!

How it is on my K1 - just as it is the described by the thread starter!!!!! Wonderfull!!!!

If you want back the APC-feeling - just put on the Pentax 1.4-TC.

I'll look in here to see if you have any problems not understanding my explanation - as I'm not English native speaking.

By the way - what happened to my ordered parts from Pentax? They are still in the box - if I want to revert the above work and make it true original again.

Man - What a lens!!!!!!!
Now I love it even more!

I'll keep my K3 for serious tele-photoing, birdings etc
The K5 IIs is now for sale - cheap - anyone???

DA* 60-250 mod for FF

I have modded another lens for a participant here. However sending 60-250mm lenses around the world is NOT CHEAP - and to that comes package and handling and insurances and uncertain however post works as it should.

However - this is just a thought:
1/I take my unmodded tube without the SDM-part to a workshop and ask them for the cost of let's say to mod 15 pieces. If OK to a reasonable price THEN
2/ try to buy 15 pieces unmodded baffel-kits from my camera workshop mentioned above
3/ Loosen the baffel-tubes give them to the presumed workshop and have them fixed.
4/ Then fetch them, inspect, paint and glue the parts - ready to delivery after postage and handling..
5/ Customer (you that is) get it and change the parts having your original as a spare.

I or preferably someone else in with this idea?
Let's put it this way - I want to enjoy summer and all else so there is resistance in me....
You know my motorhome - fly-fishing - photographing - hiking - enjoy my kids and grandchildren etc etc.:)
Sweden and Norway has short summers - like northern Canada - and North it will go!!

BTW:
(PH vs JIS - PH has a tiny longer tip - sand the PH tip just a bit and it fits just as good as a JIS - I did learn that long ago when I worried about that by an old fine-mechanican in my veteran-car-club.
Just make sure You have total grip and fit using the screw-driver - You feel when you have total fit yourself. Anyway - it's only the upper part that effectively torque the screw - so you want to "bottom it" in the X )

DA* 60-250 mod for FF

I bought it from my often used firm:
Kameraservice Kungsör AB
Box 135
736 23 Kungsör
+46 (0)227 12740

info@kameraservice.se
Or their site Startsida - Kamera service i Kungsör AB
For me they have always been great. Best camera workshop in Sweden - inkl Hasselblad.

They also told me the trick how to get the tube-assembly out the easy way without springs all over the place - and also showed interest in the mod telling me that in their opinion it would not have any negative effects on FF.

I did see that someone had problems with focusing above - do not forget to glue back the tube to the baffel-part - otherwise that one its lose and moves by itself. Three tiny dots glue with a small glue-gun, that's it.

BTW - What a lens on the K1!!!
Also often use it with Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 and sometimes with Pentax 1.7x AF adapter - both FF, when needed - mostly without.
I'm not technically ashamed of the quality of my large prints made by that very lens.

A clear barging - let me say carefully, at least, "a recommended star lens" for a Pentaxian!

Want some help with contacts with the camera workshop - PM me! But I can not promise anything - I'm taking great care of having good relation with them.

...a pentaprism Pentax in the size and weight of the old MX or ME. (With that feeling...)

Stripped down - without all that things you seldom use - less knobs and exotic settings.

In a way just shutter-speed, opening, light meter and ISO-settings preferably to be able to set manually and that fit any of the Pentax lenses.

To easily carry around - without the feeling of a cheap point and shoot. 300-400 grams?

In a way like the old Leicas - quality and ease.!

You know - not all that planing for the gear that you can carry - huge backpacks or bags that make you think "that one is also good to take with".
Two lenses in the pocket and one attached - that is - perhaps some in the car or nearby.

When shall science reverse and build smaller again?
For me that would be a clean hit!

OK - I like my K-1.....and also have a "point and shoot thing"...that naturally is mostly used.
But ...You know....

PH was used by me!

---------- Post added 05-11-16 at 02:43 PM ----------

I assure You that when You have loosen the tube part - it's self exemplary.
Just take it easy slow and study the parts carefully - you can test yourself by mounting/unmounting the unworked parts.
No springs flying around and so.

But DO NOT UNMOUNT THE WHOLE BAYONET - then you will have springs all over the place.
The thread starter must have had a hell putting back those contact springs connecting to the camera house.
He managed I think because he had unmounted the whole tube and not just grinded away the baffle so he could reach
the contact springs from inside. That doesn't work with my simpler method.

Anyway - I thank the "inventor"!
