Thanks "bossa", "fuzzyfelt30", "gkince, "Aoloth" and "TheOneAndOnlyJH" - apologies for only replying now, I haven't been on the forum in a while :(
I agree completely "TheOneAndOnlyJH" - some photos look so simple until you think about the time and effort that went into making rather than taking the photo, I was particularly chuffed with this shot as it was my first attempt at a studio setup (in a remote part of Chile). If it was lifting off from a branch or rock then maybe it would be a bit more interesting.
Looking at the other entries (and the winners of round 2) I think I would have been hard pressed to come anywhere close to the quality we have seen in this competition! I've just started a longer commute (train) which gives me more time to process my photos - if anyone is interested in seeing more insects/macro/nature/random travels then my flickr is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/benpricepix/
Cheers,
Ben

Thanks mail2richw! More like: "how long is that lens you are pointing at me?!" ---------- Post added 05-18-14 at 05:31 PM ----------
Thanks rodeknyt! I stopped clicking once I got this one, having realised it had taken 2hrs to get this and that I didn't think I could replicate the timing again!

Thanks Crux! Hopefully I get some time to make a small mobile studio and get out in the field, now that summer is on its way here in the UK :)

Thanks sireddy! I like to say that photography is like fishing, it doesn't matter if you catch anything - that said, sometimes it is nice to catch something :)

While on a field-trip to Chile we had a very rainy afternoon which I chose to spend indoors photographing this Scarab beetle (genus: Brachysternus), found in abundance at this particular site. I spent almost 2 hours getting this shot, following the beetle around my first attempt at a homemade studio, waiting for it to fly, and missing it when it did! Eventually I got the timing right and although I aimed to freeze the beetle completely I now like the slight movement in the wings and elytra. The beetle was released back into the wild unharmed, my arms however took a while to recover from holding the 180mm lens for so long!
Capture info: Pentax K5; Sigma 180mm f3.5 Macro; aperture: f16; iso: 400; shutter speed: 1/180 sec; flashes: wireless slave Metz-50 and a "dumb" slave Canon.
Studio: plastic box on it's side, white paper taped to the inner walls, white curved poster as a background, two off camera flashes pointed up to bounce down on the beetle and around the box.
Comments welcome!

Apologies if this has already been answered but I tried searching the forums before posting....
I am currently based in the USA and have just purchased a K-5 (can't wait for it to arrive!) :D The twist is: I will be leaving in February and moving to the UK and I understand that the basic (1 year) warranty can be made international by contacting Pentax.
Is it the same process for the extended warranty (additional 2 years) either purchased from B&H or Adorama? Can anyone confirm if this can be transferred to an International (2 year) Warranty?
I heard a rumour that the $20 extended warranties might actually be free if you contacted Pentax directly - any confirmation on this?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

Thanks for the great welcome!
@Checking...jono - I think I may have the green light on getting the K-5 from management ;)
@Schmidlapper - I got that Tak 500mm from Freecycle, there are some very generous people out there!

Hi All,
I have lurked on this forum for many months and it has helped my photography so much! I started with my first SLR in 2008 (a Pentax K200d) which I bought after about a year of research (yes I'm that pedantic)! I have been very lucky to get some old Glass in addition to the kit lens over the years:
Asahi Takumar, 500mm, f/4.5, Screw Mount
Asahi Pentax, 28mm, f/3.5, Screw Mount
Asahi Super Takumar, 135mm, f/3.5, Screw Mount
Pentax-M (SMC), 50mm, f/2, K Mount
Asahi Macro-Takumar, 50mm, f/4, Screw Mount
Auto Mamiya - Sekor, 55mm, f/1.4, Screw Mount
Anyway, I'm very happy with my Pentax gear so far and looking to step it up to a K-5 soon when the budget (aka the wife) allows!
I'm also looking for a Sigma 180mm f/3.5 Macro but it seems a tough lens to get a hold of :(
Cheers!
