K30 random underexposure problem

Hi,

Looks like my K-30 has started having the same problem and its out of Warranty. I cant afford a repair or a new camera right now, so have no choice but to keep using it.

I only have 3 questions:

1. Can I keep using the Camera with a manual focus lens?

2. Will the issue in the camera become worse overtime or make it unusable?

3. Is there a way to fix the camera myself? I tried searching the web to find any instructions on repairing it but was not able to find anything.

Thank you,

I for one don't really care about it not using SDM.

For me whats important is the WR and HD coating I am getting for such a cheap price! Even the 18-135mm WR is more expensive then it just because it has SDM.

I think this lens will be a hell of a lot popular than most of the other WR lenses because of its better IQ and longer reach (Not forgetting its price)!

Sony has plans of bringing out a full-frame mirrorless camera system.

There are rumors of Sony to bring out at-least one mirrorless full-frame before the end of 2013. Sony has already planned to bring out E-mount full-frame lenses, so seeing a mirrorless full-frame camera would only make sense. And looking at the innovations that Sony has been recently coming out with, it is entirely possible that they can do such a thing.

it is said that these cameras should come out in under 5 months.

Well, I don't think its anyone's fault here. People, including myself, do get dragged into these negative comments online when searching about a certain company, especially on places like Whirlpool but companies do make mistakes and if it were that bad then they wouldn't make any money.

I wont say that I didn't encounter any problems with Kogan as on the first try my SIM card that they shipped did not arrive and I had to tell them but they immediately sent me another one. And after that there were no issues at all and the network coverage was excellent.

So I personally would love to buy from them again, maybe a Pentax lens once they start putting those on sale :D, but at the same time I would be aware that a issue or two can pop up but as long as its rectifiable (thats if it happens) and I am getting a good deal, I will still be very happy.

I wouldn't say I am unhappy about Kogan Mobile. I know that they had to suddenly close their business because of Telstra but they quickly made a deal with Yatango Mobile to provide all their mobile users with FREE unlimited calls, txts and 6GB data for a month and they also gave refunds to customers who were still on their prepaid plans.

So right now I have 1 month of free mobile usage and am very happy with it. This also means I have a whole month to choose a new mobile-carrier provider.

If Kogan didn't care about their customers then they wouldn't have done this :).

Hi, been following this club for a long time.
here's my first post on this thread and my first try at taking a shot of the moon.
Took it with my Pentax K-30 and the Pentax-K 300mm F4 lens on a tripod with a remote control.
Did minor PP with cropping and sharpening.

For a couple of days a random question has been popping up in my head. I have never thought about it before, nor have I previously paid attention to it but now I want to find out!

Which eye do you use to look through your camera viewfinder?

For me its my Left Eye. The first time I picked up a camera, I naturally just looked through its viewfinder with my left eye.

So which eye do you use? Your left or right?

I am very curious to see what each person answers as I am sure its not just the same answer for everyone...

Worth upgrading K-x?

If you want to upgrade then the K-30 or K-5 IIs is a good choice as they have good features.

The main advantages that I see in upgrading would be better sensor, weather sealing and overall more functions to play around with.

I don't know much about a K-x as I have never owned one but it all depends on what you are looking for in an upgrade.

Great shots! I have been researching on buying a cheap WR lens for myself and looking at these shots I feel the 18-135mm is an excellent choice for myself! So thank you! And hopefully one day I can create images like these myself (after a lot of practice).

Your pics are quite inspirational! :D

Thank you Kobayashi.K! It works perfectly on my K-30. I am not getting any problems with my camera.

Just a note that as you have to re-configure all the settings to your needs, I did need to re-enable the use of the Aperture Ring in the Menu to use Manual Lenses. So don't forget that if you want to use your classic collection of lenses!

But thanks again! Now I can use my camera like a SLR and it will be less battery hungry! :D

Also I haven't upgraded my firmware on the K-30 since I bought it. Is it that important?

Better Buy: K10D or K01?

If you are going to keep your istD then personally I'd go with the K-01 but like drypenn said, better to wait and save up for a better upgrade.

I used to own a K-01. It has amazing image quality as it uses the same sensor as the K-5 which is a plus point but it did not have a view finder. I only own one camera at a time, so I upgraded to a K-30 and sold the K-01. The K-30 does not bring any new improvements to the image quality as it uses the same sensor but I needed the viewfinder and wanted a weather resistant body.

So like I said, if you are going to keep the istD then buy the K-01 for its better sensor, otherwise wait for a better upgrade depending on what you need.

Where to buy camerars/lens in Australia?

I think Ted's camera house is a good place.

Its the only place I have bought from before as they have genuine Australian stock and very competitive pricing.

I got a good deal off them for the K-01 before the fire-sale and recently bought a Pentax K-30 from them as I could not bare having no viewfinder on the K-01. They also have good customer service and have some good extended warranty plans.

I do not know about other stores as I have not bought from them previously but Ted's is a good option. I think they have physical stores in Melbourne also.

Most of my photographer friends (except for the ones from PentaxForums) use Nikon, Sony or mainly Canon. Here in Sydney, when you go into Photography shops, the first choices you will get are Canon or Nikon as they are advertised more.

I myself was thinking of buying a Canon or Nikon last year when I was moving up from a Pentax SLR camera but I stuck with Pentax because of their backwards compatibility with older lenses, Image quality and cheap price.

I do think we are rare but we still are getting a great line of products and most importantly the great community we have here really makes us special.

LapTop/Tablet or DeskTop

I personally have a thing for Apple computers. I am planning to buy a new computer device as my old Macbook Pro is almost on its last breath now.

I am planning to buy a Macbook Air as its light, uses flash storage so the loading and writing speed are top notch. I have almost never used CDs on my mac but if you know you are going to use CDs or DVDs then you can also buy external CD/DVD drive.

I think buying a desktop or a laptop depends on if you want it to be portable. If you would like to carry your device to places with you then dont get a desktop. Also tablets are not that powerful enough right now to be able to use professional photography softwares and other hardcore applications, including Windows tablets as the OEMs don't use the best hardware for them as they are oriented towards the average PC users rather than professionals.

I think the best thing to go for is a laptop with the latest processors (Haswell), extra RAM, a good screen for viewing your images and if possible flash storage as its much faster then traditional hard drives.

I think if budget is not an issue for you then you should go for the Macbook Pro with Retina display, as its got everything you need except for the CD drive.
