If a camera won't work with the lenses that it is normally packaged with, it has failed. I'm glad you found a workaround though. It is not an acceptable workaround for me.

I just bought a K-70 to replace my KS-2 that failed due to aperture block. If I had not been aware of this issue, I would have figured it's normal. Mine failed after 5 years and 16k shutter count. I would have bought a KP if I had known just 2 weeks earlier. Oh well. I did buy the Pentax extended warranty. Going to buy a couple of white solenoids, one to try and repair the KS-2 and another for when/if the K-70 fails.

Darn. Mine just failed and I see that the date is 2/2015, even though I purchased it in March of 2016. 16,600 shutter count though, so I got some use out of it.
Going to get a K-70 with extended warranty and try to repair my K-S2 later.

Just a guess, but I think the seller is out and put the price where no-one would buy it, rather than letting the listing drop out.

Wish I had done the same.
I think its a good idea to give a little tug on the dial for anyone who owns a K-01, to make sure it's on securely.

I just lost mine. Pentax won't supply the dial alone. They said to send the camera in for repair, which is north of $100 and leaves me without a camera while I wait. Guess I will keep an eye out for a parts camera. Grrrrrrr.....

Mine shuts down unexpectedly with a Wasabi Battery, even when showing a full charge, but will go down to blinking red with the Pentax battery.

I simply adore the Pentax 18-135 with the K01. Quiet and very reliable auto-focus. It is a marriage made in heaven. If I could only have one lens, it is the one I would pick.

I adore the K01. It renewed my passion for photography. I purchased it with the 2 zoom kit lenses, but have ditched those for a Sigma 8-16 and a Pentax 18-135. I have taken some of the best pictures of my life with it.
Does it have shortcomings? For sure, but what doesn't? My main gripe is lack of an EVF. There are times when I have to take shots blind, and then check to see if I got the shot or not.

I had lost my passion for photography years ago. The purchase of a K01 reignited that passion. I am now shooting medium format film and developing it myself. I still take most of my shots with the K01, but it also serves as a meter for my Ricoh Diacord G. I am also playing around with Polaroid cameras, using expired Polaroid, Impossible Project, and Fuji films.
Kind of ironic that Ricoh made my film camera in the '50s, and owns Pentax now. A modern Pentax inspired my purchase of a vintage Ricoh. Talk about unintended consequences.

I had owned a Panasonic Superzoom for many years. I was about to pull the trigger on the latest/greatest Panasonic Superzoom, when I saw the K01 was about the same price, with two lenses and had much superior image quality. No regrets whatsoever.

My Wasabi battery dies without warning. it shows a full charge one moment, then the camera just shuts down. It has done this several times. The stock battery never does this, showing a gradual progression to discharge on the battery symbol. I just use the Wasabi as a backup battery now.

The Sigma 8-16mm focuses properly, almost every time, but often the camera won't release the shutter. I set it to release the shutter without a focus lock and it works fine.
EXIF data doesnt show the focal length below 10MM. It just shows 0 below 10.

Personally, I feel if it had an EVF and the revised firmware from the start, it would have garnered more positive reviews and done better based on image quality.
I don't want a DSLR, but I want an APS-C sensor. I like live view, but I hate that I'm guessing if I have a good shot or not with the K-01 in bright sun, and an EVF would solve that problem.
It does make me wonder though, when I see much more compact APS-C cameras on the market, and then I look at my old ME-Super, which is almost as compact as those cameras. Seems like the K-01 could have been a bit smaller.

I'm with you on this point. If the K-01 had this look and an EVF, I'd be ecstatic.
