I've been submitting photographs for a solid year to the gallery and all have been declined. Granted I don't really take traditional landscapes or portraits, but my work has sold, been in galleries and been published. Has anyone else had these issues? Is it just me? I'm beginning to think PPG has apersonal beef with me...

I looked at the photo on you flickr, it may be a dark photo, but i would hesitate to say it is underexposed. There are no specular hightlights in the photo, and judging by the length of the shadow in the foreground, I would say this is pretty late in the day, right? (This is all subjective, after all.) Check your camera by shooting mid-day, and find something that is shiny white so you can compare heavily reflected, specular highlight to the rest of the white object. It would be great to see this photo posted also.

Here is my submission for this week. I took this a while back as a press/promo for a Chicago production of Euripides' "Medea." I took a full light kit, but ended up using the setting sun coming through the barred window in the rehearsal space.

A tiff is an uncompressed (or minimally compressed) image file. If tyou are using lightroom to post a sort files, import them directly from you camera or card as DNG's. The deabte will rage forever on whether to shoot PEF or DNG in your camera, so that's up to you.

Lightroom has a reference database that it saves previews and path information in. The changes you made in the develop module are actually saved to the metadata in the DNG file.

Bridge is a viewing/sorting/tracking app that is bundled with Photoshop. It allows you to see thumbs for all files including raw files. I find it most useful when opening something directly into photoshop. (There is even a link on the PS toolbar for Bridge) You could probably get Lightroom for $200 or under now.

I use both photoshop and Lightroom. I use lightroom 95% of the time. If you are serious about developing raw images, lightroom is the way to go. Lightroom also interfaces with Photoshop for those times I need to use layers, cut away a background or do photomerge, or HDR. They are both very powerful tools, but lightroom is designed for raw workflow. If you are handling a very large number of raw files, Lightroom will help you sort, track and filter them. The most attractive feature of light room to me is that the changes you make in the develop module are nondestructive, and can be reversed or changed in the future. Photoshop is a "pixel painting" program, where as Lightroom (in my opinion) is much more like actually being in the darkroom with a negative. Hope this was informative, if you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

I use the domke grippers with the thin straps that go down to the camera. They are great for me because they don't fall off your shpulder or ride up on your neck.
