Look into the IQ of the Tamron 17 - 50 f/2.8. It takes awesome night shots and on the K5 at ISO 100 no noise. The other lens to look at is the Pentax DA 15Ltd. It is a pancake lens. I don't have that lens but want to get it and I have seen remarkable night shots with it.

I use my old (1980s) F lenses on my Kx, but the auto focus works on my lens that was an autofocus and the manual are manual unless I add the two times converter, then my old manual lenses are partially auto focus in that I first focus the lens within range, then the 2X does the rest.

I have the same experience with my K-x and eneloops, but near the end of the extra 400 shots sometimes a shot ends up with colourful lines in it. I don't think my eneloops hold a charge as long anymore either.
Do non-rechargeable batteries, the real good ones, last a long time?
