Sorry about that; i saw the notches in the corners and assumed it was a Hasselblad, since they're known for having them

I've also been planning on getting into film soon; I recently purchased an Epson 4990 Pro and a Canon 8800F for under $10 each at yard sales; and I've been thoroughly impressed by the few frames I scanned on the Canon (I would try the Epson, but mine only came with the medium format and 4x5 film holders, not the 35mm). Both of these are older flatbeds with back-illumination panels, but they still produce better results than a modern cheap dedicated scanner. You could probably find a scanner of this type on craigslist for under $50 with a set of film holders; it seems like a lot of people are selling them.

Sharpness has a greater effect on edges in the photo, Fine Sharpness effects areas of fine detail. I've found that when I shoot JPEGs on my K20D, Fine Sharpness tends to increase the appearance of noise at medium ISO setting (400-800). If you shoot RAW, the sharpening settings only apply to the initial preview image; I usually individually sharpen each image to my liking in LR anyway

This hawk landed on our telephone pole during dinner, and allowed me to get ~25ft from the base of the pole before he flew away. Shot with the Adaptall 19AH @210mm, wide open (f3.5). The image I posted is cropped roughly 3/4 the size of the original image. Unfortunately, I missed the focus by a very small amount.

My entry for the GRD IV giveaway.
Shot with Pentax K20D (Adorama Link)
and SMC-A 35-70 3.5-4.5
A bit of background info:
On Wednesdays, I bring my K20D, two lenses (this zoom and my 55 f1.2), and my Minolta 4000AF+sync cord to school for "Random Portrait Wednesday," in which I take candid photos of my friends in lunch and study hall. For some reason, on this particular Wednesday, someone had brought in an American flag bow, which became the center of an entire series of rather cheesy pictures.

It should; however, you might want to check for the Ricoh pin on the mount before using it on your K-30. According to the lens database entry for the lens , it seems that some copies may have the pin.

On my K20D, I've never found Green (auto) mode to work very well at all; it always seems to screw something up. I'd recommend learning how the zone system works, then use aperture-priority (Av) with center spot meter, EV comp and AE lock to get the desired exposure

I don't have a K-30, so these are just guesses, based on my experiences with the K20D and a K-5 I played with once:
The blinking red is a blown highlight warning; it basically means that the object is overexposed to the point that you will start to lose detail. To correct this, you should probably apply some negative exposure compensation to regain detail in the moon.
The "curtain" sounds like it might be a histogram, which basically shows the brightness distribution of the image.
I'm not sure about the moon appearing large, but being smaller in the final photo. If I had to guess, I think the K-30 has a feature where it zooms in (in Live View) when you focus, to make focusing easier.

My first manual flash (a Minolta 4000AF) just came in the mail, and here is one of my first pictures with it.
Strobist Info: Minolta 4000AF (measured GN~90ft) at full power, handheld on a cable approximately 2.5 feet to my left with a homemade 8.5x11 cardstock softbox |

I don't think you can bracket ISO, only shutter speed/aperture. However, if you shoot RAW, you can probably get a stop or two of exposure latitude and just adjust the exposure in LR or any other RAW processor

Hello everyone!
Before I introduce myself, I would like to thank everyone on the forum for providing useful posts that helped lead me towards Pentax, and specifically, my K20D.
My name is Kristoff, and I am a high school student in upstate NY. Over the past few years, I have become more interested in photography, first with a Yashica FX-3 SLR, then a Pentax P3, and now a DSLR. I recently asked for, and received, a used K20D for Christmas, and I look forward to learning from/with it in the years to come. I also look forward to exploring the vast array of manual K-mount and M42 lenses that seem to be everywhere. I will soon be borrowing an A-50 f2 from a friend, and I hope to someday have a full range of primes.
I look forward to learning from everyone on this forum, and to contributing to it in whatever way I can.
-Kristoff
