Thank you everyone. Tonight was much better because of your tips. Would someone be so kind as to post their] moon shots with the 300 for comparison?

Help please, with concern over my DA* 300mm lens which I’ve had for a couple years. I love to photograph the full moon but have never gotten anticipated results. Conditions this past week were perfect and I made an effort to better document the experience.
K-50 and DA*300. Bogen 3036 tripod with Bogen 3047 head. Manual mode. 12 second shutter release. No filter. Shake reduction off. Took many snaps at different shutter speeds and aperture settings. Best results attached. Also attached is shot with the same K50 using a Nikon 500mm f8 mirror lens attached via adapter.
Am I expecting too much from the 300? Am I missing something in settings/technique? Do I have a less than perfect copy of the DA*300?
Thanks

I agree, "pre-sets do not a photographer make"
High school band concert in auditorium
I've tried a variety of settings but can't seem to find the correct combination for better contrast of lighter elements
Suggestions please.
Thank you

Happy, happy, happy me. Got some new off-the-shelf batteries and the camera has revived. Thank you all so very much.

No particular type. Will make sure to use lithium per Just1More Dave. This is not a frequently used camera so the clock thing may be the problem. Will leave batteries in it for several hours to see if it revives. Thank you both!

I have a lovely idst L which only displays the pulsing battery icon when switched on. All four batteries test in excess of 1.5 volts and contacts have been brightened. Any chance I'm missing something and there's still hope?
Thank you

For those of you who replace your own pads and seals, what have you found to be the most reliable sources please? Both pre-cut and sheet goods.
Thank you

I have a K1000 with the advance lever stuck at the top of the sweep. Shutter button semi-depressed Can't see anything obvious. Found "how-to" for related issues, but not this one. Any suggestions please?
TIA

Wiley: thank you
Mike: My daughter is the artist.
And, I forgot to answer the K-70 give-away questions.
1. The snap was from a K-50 with a DA 18~135mm
2. Okay. I don't NEED a K-70. Any more than I need my other digitals or my hoard of vintage film cameras.
3. There are occasions when the articulated screen will be quite handy. I have never acted on my dream of celestial photography, and would be excited to play with the Star Stream mode.

We think providing feeder light and heat are pretty basic.
But is the artwork too much?

I acknowledge this is likely a stupid question, but I'm posting under an alias so I'll only have to endure the derisive hoots here on the Forum.
I'd like to set up the K-50 by the bird feeder, but don't want to sit in the cold, waiting for birds to get comfortable with this stranger in their space.
Using the standard Pentax remote from inside was fruitless.
Any ideas for work arounds?
Thank you

I appreciate the additional advice and input. That particular shot is one of usually a couple hundred at any given meet. I try to capture the whole team and make the shots available to the school for distribution. Not all parents (or grandparents) can make all the meets and we hope this helps a little.

Thanks to all who made helpful suggestions about low light problems. My shots were better at the next meet, but still not good. I have since acquired a nice 50mm f1.8 but will have to wait until next season.

Thank you everyone. I have happily concluded my gear is sound, and I have strategies to address the operator operations. In answer to your questions. . . . . .
1. Yes, I wanted to freeze action.
2. Sport mode (I just discovered) does not override manually set ISO.
3. Snaps were taken late afternoon 5:30 to 6:30 PM
4. Yes, the aperture stayed open for the full second.
Thanks again!

I've been photographing the granddaughter's cross country meets this fall with acceptable results. Yesterday's effort resulted in disappointment. The day was totally overcast and I was shooting mostly in shaded areas, although snaps in open areas were equally troubling. Pentax K-50 with 18~135mm WR set on "action" mode, and using mono-pod. Aperture ranged from 4 to 5.6. Fastest shutter speed was 1/60. Samples below. First and second shots taken under same conditions. Advice please. Equipment or operator? Thank you
