Since we are doing generic camera porn, I will see your Wisner and raise you a Chamonix!

No brass, just teak, carbon fiber, and machined aluminum alloy...also sadly neglected...

There is! I am married! (and I have a kid in college) If my wife sees ANOTHER Pentax camera in the house she'll kill me.

That is true, and it has been an issue a couple of times.

On paper (and perhaps in reality) the K-3 is the better camera. However that 16MP Sony sensor in the K-5iis is something special, the color, the dynamic range, there is just something magical about the output from that camera.
Personally I will never sell mine, but it comes down to your use case. Another consideration is you can't fully use the newer KAF4 lenses on the K-5iis

I bought my Kr at the Tilicum Rd LD in 2010.

I think the general deterioration of service relates more to the shrinking value of the category as more and more purchases go on line. That’s why Camera Canada, McBains, TCS, and Henry’s has dominated the conversation. They do e-comm well.

Lens suggestions

I've had one of these for several years and it's always had a certain attraction. Now, this isn't a lens to stick on the camera every day but when you have one of "those" scenes I quite like how it renders the blues and greens. For wide shots, excellent, not so good for closer shots...better choices in the arsenal. Ideally, given my evolution of equipment, for doing scenery, it would be the K-1 with the 15-30 (currently, using every opportunity to exercise and explore the K-3 III). There is probably no quality comparison between the 10-20 or the DFA 15-30 worth debating. With the 15-30, on the K-1 secured to a tripod and you've got a serious contender. Whack the 10-20 (it won't fit the K-1) on the K-3 III for snap-shot adventures and I think it works: BTW, the 15-30 is "weighty", tripod use comes naturally...not so much with the 10-20 Sigma.

Cleaning the 645z Sensor

I have never cleaned a sensor and I never shall. It goes to a pro. People constantly tell me how easy it is but I am not a practical man. I just know I would do damage, whatever anyone else's experience may be. So off it goes!

If anything, the K-1 revitalizes older lenses of all sorts. The worst effect is that one has only oneself to blame for the results.

The only lens that I don’t use a hood for is the FA100 Macro, where the front element is so recessed that it doesn’t need one.

Apologies for not being able to make a clear point. I suppose my reaction was more in context of the OP's question.

From what I read I was rather disappointed with Hasselblad. Secretly I wanted it to be some high end super technology with ultra secret sauce that would produce images making Pentax (and Fuji) look like toys from amateur hour.

Apart from the Hasselblad rebranding issues of other cameras, their flagship model the, H6D seems to be a rather limited camera system. Perhaps the quality of the lenses are ultra superior, but I suspect not. The camera seem to lack functional ergonomics.

Worth $40k plus?

An alternative to the 645z?

Having a decent range of lenses?

Suitable for outdoor work on a hike, and studio as well?

Weather sealed?

I guess not.....

What bugging me about those medium format camera system is after sales / repair / part services. Pentax 645z is still being sold, not discontinued, even after years of being sold, which is quite reassuring from a professional use standpoint. Continued support seems similar with Hasselblad. When I look at Fuji, things look more chaotic and tuned into the rapid obsolescence, they've changed the battery model since 50S and 50R series (short lived), and lots of lenses can't be bought right now with unknown deliver lead times, which IMHO isn't professional at all. Just imagine you are a professional using Fuji MF and your lens break, so you must stop working? Not serious at all. A professional need to be sure to be able to source equipment when needed and have his gear serviced in short lead times. So yes, 645z isn't new, but there is inventory of cameras and lenses available.

I would echo this as the K1 series shares the same sensor with the D810's I used to operate. ISO400 on the 645z is as clear and ungrainy as IS100 on the 645z. ISO200 in the D810 is already grainy at 400 is not good at all.

The dynamic range of the 645z I would say exceeds that of the Nikon, but it's not a lot in it. The image quality is on another level though.

I haven't found that to be true. The difference is very noticeable in a number of ways, but I think mostly in the malleability of the files. And although the K1mkI and II are on paper better with high iso noise, I have not seen that to be the case at all. If I have low light work to do, the choice is always the Z, unless it's just documentary work of installations mechanics for the exhibits department.

Well, I disagree with the first assertion. Everyone I know who's moved into digital medium format has done so because they feel it does something FF doesn't. The second bit is more true, but not 95% I don't think. As far as competing with Fuji is concerned, I doubt that's much of a motivation for Pentax at this point. Anyway, the sensor will undoubtedly be an upgrade: the sensor in the Z may not be made anymore, and Pentax will be wanting to do a few new things with a new Z anyway, some of which might involve the sensor in other ways besides mp count.
