Enough lies.

Racer through the years.

Me, before you could see me. Long Beach, California.

I'm in there, trust me. 6 months before some stranger I never met, and never saw again slapped me on the backside and made me cry, at the US Navy hospital in Corona, California.

Mom Expecting Me March 56 by Racer, on Flickr

Me, carpet surfing, 8 months. Shootin' the curl, sportin' 3 cornered pants, pooping green and puking pablum. Cowabunga dude!

Me April 57 by Racer, on Flickr

That carpet surfing is hard work. Dad giving me a ride on his knee after a few runs on the big waves.

Dad And I April 57 by Racer, on Flickr

Grandpa giving me a knee ride. I was like, "Who is this guy?"

Grandpa was good with kids. He had 6 of his own, and they all went out and had a bunch, in twos and threes, so lots of grandkids (my cousins).

2 years, 7 months.

GQ all the way. Gonna chase down some girls, play it cool.

Rico Suave cool.

Tough guy. Heading for the ring.

3 years, 3 months. Merry Christmas from San Pedro, California. Dad was in the Navy, so we moved around a lot. San Pedro was just another stop along the way.

Me December 59 by Racer, on Flickr

Second grade. Waiting on that last tooth to come in.

If memory serves me, this was the year that Kennedy was assinated.

Fifth grade. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

That sweater had leather elbows. I felt like Ward Cleaver.

I looked like Dennis The Menace.

July, 1972, almost 16 years old, Silver Lake, South of Everett, Washington, at the house in the next picture. Holding a chicken here, as I recall it was one that became a pet. Mom made pets out of too many of the animals. We could never eat a pet.

Ate that chicken's unborn young though. Every morning at breakfast.

Me July 72 by Racer, on Flickr

With my mom, 1981. That house is the last house my family lived in as a family. Mom got it in the divorce. When she remarried, and moved in with her new husband, I moved in a took over payments. Lived there for about 10 years, met and married Mrs. Racer 1.0. Mom got divorced from her second husband, bought a 24 foot travel trailer, and moved it in behind the house. That may have been a contributing factor in the deterioration of my marriage to Mrs. Racer 1.0, but I would never fault mu mother for such things. Divorced Mrs. Racer 1.0 after 3 and 1/2 years, mom cashed me out in the equity I earned for making payments on her mortgage for 10 years, I moved out and bought my first bit of real estate.

A few years later mom sold her place to developers, along with everyone else in the area, everyone moved away, the machines came in a raped the land, and they built tick tacky little boxes, so close together you can't drive a car between them, and besides a tiny two car garage that would have trouble accommodating two Smart cars, there is limited street parking.

No more rural scene with hobby farms dotting the landscape.

I should have included this video, it is perfect for it.

I am not a moderator, just a user who has started hundreds of new threads, written articles, and attempts to assist I don't know how many folk trying to figure out how to use their cameras. I hang out and contribute here a lot, mostly because I know some stuff and am often bored and I like to write.

You can post as much as you want, just don't substitute a self-promoting link for content. You are a good writer and there is no loss in sharing that talent here the same way you share it on your blog, only here it is for interacting with a community that will appreciate your input and in return the depth of your personal knowledge will increase as will the breadth/depth of your artistic expression. I promise.

Starting several threads with intent to drive traffic off-site to improve a site's Alexa rating, Goggle ranking, and/or the value of ad real estate is the antithesis of why this forum exists and one of the reason why doing so is forbidden* in this other most other online forums. There are several bloggers and owners of online businesses on this site, but a quick survey of the site should be enough to demonstrate that their contribution is as rich as any other member.

I would expect nothing less than these puns from this forum

Okay, new situation. Let's say you're having brunch and want a mini-loaf of pumpkin bread to serve, but in the shape of your favorite camera. I've sure we've all felt that before :p

Well, look no further.

I also tried Jell-O, but the ice experiment punctured a hole in the mold I didn't see and all the Jell-O escaped :( I may try again.

More 100th anniversary celebrating!

(I should point out that the little brown bits you see are not dirt, but the chocolate bits that I guess I didn't clean out very well!)

The Android tablet market has somewhat imploded in the past few years, with many recognized names leaving the market.

I had an ASUS I liked until I replaced it with a refurbished iPad. My mother has a Samsung she got with a deal from her phone service provider. She likes that as well.

I would suggest a minimum of 64Gb memory. Though additional memory can be added to some Android tablets, it cannot be added to all of them (or to iPads), so be careful.

I haven’t found either the Android or Apple tablets to be ideal photography companions, but the Apple is less of a pain. I suspect much of that is because I’m invested in their ecosystem otherwise (the Apple TV does great slideshows over my home network, for example...)

In either case, get a good case for it. Not a lousy generic one that fits anything about the right size, but one that’s properly fit for your tablet. It will save you headaches later when your tablet does not fall out of its case...

Good luck.

-Eric

Almost a week later, here's the latest:

The wife and I have about half of it eaten, by volume. It must have been left out too long at one point so there is some sugar bloom which makes a less pleasant texture. I think I'm going to chop it up and use it for scrap metal, I mean chocolate. For baking :)

Yes! It also associates the contemporary products with tradition, and that's a good selling point.

Thanks!

Thanks! I discovered this place by accident and just after I returned from Japan it was featured on NHK (the national broadcaster). :D

 I didn't notice that!

The walls of Japanese storehouses are built thick for insulation to protect what is inside from heat, cold, fire and typhoons. The window shutters are thick for the same reasons. Traditional Japanese houses often burned down, but the storehouses often survived. When I first saw windows like these in Sawara, I thought that it was mainly to protect from typhoons, but I have since learned that fire was one of the main things that they were trying to protect the contents of the building from, aside from the weather. By contrast, traditional Japanese houses in lowland areas were poorly insulated from the cold, and were built to be easily opened up to allow breezes in summer. Traditional houses in mountainous areas had thatched roofs about 30cm (1 foot) thick, to keep off snow and rain.

I, like many of you, am kind of a Pentax nerd. I thinks that's okay, I just say that to explain my behavior

I wanted to do something special to celebrate Pentax's 100th anniversary on my own. The forums have done an awesome job with these contests, and PentaxGallery has some cool things going on (free t-shirt, thanks!) But I still wanted something on my own. Something to commemorate this moment for a brand that has helped shaped such a significant part of my photography hobby.

My YouTube history reveals that I watched a bunch of videos over the course of a week about making your own chocolate, and then making your own chocolate molds. I'm pretty sure that's when this idea got planted in my head, and even though it sounded crazy I thought it just might work...

So, I present to you, a chocolate Pentax K1000. (No Pentax's were hurt in the making of this video.)

Youtu.be

It's been a few days but I still have quite a bit left, if anyone's interested

Happy 100th anniversary everyone!

Shortly after finishing building my house, I began the arduous process of redistributing the huge piles of dirt left from the excavation for the basement. As I worked the pile seen here, I noticed that it looked as if an animal or animals had been bedding down on the top at night.

I got up one morning and went into the kitchen to make coffee and fix breakfast and it was immediately evident that my suspicions were true.

Shot with Mrs. Racer's Optio W30, I actually made two exposures, one for the inside of the house, and one for the deer on the outside, then patched them together in Photoshop.

So I think I figured out the mystery of the t-shirt.

I too had entered a photo in the Pentax Photo Gallery contest, but had forgotten it, as I was suddenly unable to log in, somehow my user name and password had become invalid.

So there you have it.

Anyone who has a Pentax Photo Gallery can enter one of their contests (limited to residents of North America), the current contest is astrophotography.
