Not good enough reason to warrant paying more than 50% extra IMO

Get the k5. Image quality would be very similar to k5IIs, and is very much a significant upgrade from kr.

K5 + da35mm macro would also hold its value better than just k5IIs body alone when k3 is announced. Reason being lenses don't get outdated by a newer model so easily, and k5 is already priced low. When you want to upgrade again in a few years' time, the difference between the resale prices of k5 and k5IIs probably won't exceed $100-150

What I wanted to point out with nx200 is that the camera body can be small while still having a protrusion where the lens is to be mounted (which is seen in nx200)...

The size of k01 with limited primes may be reasonable compact, but it sure is heavy! 560g for just the camera body alone?! OMD-EM5 is the largest looking body there but weighs only 425g

Thought I would just post a quick update regarding k01 vs k5.

Received it last Friday and am loving the camera so far, especially its focus peaking feature. I would be willing to dump the k5 to use it exclusively but the market for used k5 is pretty bad. Average selling price in Singapore for a used k5 is around USD 480. Definitely not enough enticing for me to want to let it go :(

In terms of weight and size, I don't think that k01 offers that much of an advantage over k5. I feel that Pentax has failed terribly in the execution of k01 because it does not differentiate itself sufficiently to hold on its own. Price is probably the biggest draw but then again, the current low price is driven by the need to clear its inventory rather than a sustainable and profitable pricing strategy.

Just some thoughts on what I personally feel k01 should be:
1) Firstly, it should be much lighter and slimmer. Yes, I understand that the k-mount flange distance is a limiting factor. But I can't help but feel that the rest of the camera body could be made much slimmer, in a form factor like the Samsung nx200 http://www.cameranotice.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Samsung-NX200-Black-S...w-Pictures.jpg

2) A tilting screen would negate some of the disadvantages of not having a viewfinder, and differentiate itself as the camera which encourage creative compositions that would be more difficult in Pentax other DSLR

How compact is the K-01???

Yes, i totally agree with you.... it is smaller than k5 but no way would I put k01 under the 'compact' category!

Think of it as a cheap 2nd camera body that complements k5 (especially with manual focus lens or DA lens with quick shift) due to it's focus peaking ability. It is also less intimidating to the subject when shooting with it.

Is there a auto-lens retraction setting for when camera is turned off?

Just put the lens cap back onto the lens, and half press the shutter button to 'focus out to infinity and back'. Your lens would nicely retract back.

Wow. Nice post! I guess that's one of the problem with AF, as the AF 'square' is often too big and not precise enough.

Seems like although many have considered replacing their dslr with k01, none have actually done so yet.

Hmm. Interesting thoughts. I understand that contrast detect may not be as fast as phase detection in DSLR but from I have seen on YouTube videos, k01 seems to autofocus pretty fast with the updated firmware ver 1.01. I guess I would really have to try it out myself before I can make a judgement on this.

Just curious, how is the handling? I use Tav mode primarily on k5. Does the lack of a second dial in k01 affect usage? With the k5, I can adjust the aperture and shutter speed on the fly. Wonder if that would be a problem with the k01...

I ordered a yellow k01 from amazon when it was on sale with 40mm xs. It is scheduled to deliver by mid February.

Given its small size, same awesome sensor, coupled with focus peaking, I am thinking of selling my k5 and use the k01 exclusively as my primary camera body. The advantage of k5 is probably the OVF, and possibly better handling with two control dials (vs just the rear dial on k01). WR isn't important to me since I seldom shoot in poor weather conditions, and I prefer shooting with pentax limited primes.

Just wondering if anyone is using k01 as their primary camera body in place of k5 or k30, and how you like it so far. The biggest draw for me would be the cost savings and smaller size :):)

Cheers!

My favourite lens in my collection has got to be the fa77mm. Not just for the image quality, but for its excellent build and handling :):)

Hi all,

I am pretty new to this forums but I have been shooting with Pentax for the past half a year :D

Accumulated several sweet pentax lens. I just love how pentax has one of the best (in terms of IQ, handling and size) APS-C camera bodies + some of the most amazing lenses I have used. Here's to share some photos of my favourite lense :D
