Portability vs Power (Battery Powered Strobe)

I have only had a couple times where my AD600 wasn't enough light. But this was easily overcome with changing modifiers (taking out internal diffuser for example) or compromising on settings. But I am more often surprised at how my AD200 is enough light for what I need.

Nikon Mirrorless

I hope Nikon try to be different. Nobody believes the full frame mirrorless = lighter myth anymore (unless smaller sensor and specific glass). Just take the D500 body and remove the mirror. Job done. Perfect ergonomics. Maintains flange distance and no change required to the F mount.

What is holding them back is on sensor focusing. Their live view sucks bad. They need it to not only be ok, but excellent. Nothing short of A9 performance would be acceptable right now. Same with the EVF. A9 quality or don't bother.

Nikon need a high end mirrorless soon. In my opinion the A9 is the first camera that Nikon users would consider equal to what they are already using.

Sony were lucky in that being first to market with a FF mirrorless they could release something fairly crappy. The original A7 really was a dog. Nikon (and Canon) won't have that luxury.

AF Frustration - seriously considering buying a Canon DSLR

I'm a 100% Nikon shooter now. I use 3D focus most of the time. I lock focus point where o want it and it moves around the frame, stuck on what I pointed it at. Nearly forgot how to shoot any other way.

AF Frustration - seriously considering buying a Canon DSLR

My Canon friends often tell me useless anything other than the centre focus point is. And they are envious that not only can I move a focus point across almost all of the frame on my D500, but all those points work just as well as the centre one.

Canon does have great focus abilities. But I think they save that for the 1Dx.

I guess I can join this now. Recently bought a mn XT10 second hand that came with the 18-55mm and 28mm lenses.

Well officially I bought it for my 9yo daughter. But it certainly is a nice little camera.

I think that has come from people over-praising the benefits of BBF and claiming it to be a magic cure all for focus issues. Which it most certainly is not. It will not make photos "more" in focus. But for those who gel with the technique, it will increase the number of in focus photos.

This thread honestly changed my life, way back when i first come across it.

Samyang 135mm vs Sigma 85mm f1.4

The Samyang is sharper than just about anything.

I have it for Nikon. Amazing lens but Nikon do not make manual focusing easy. They do have focus confirmation, that is it. I'd love to be able to use it with "catch in focus." I think that would solve some issues. As well as focus peaking, but I think an EVF is really needed for best benefits there.

During nesting season (Spring) they are highly territorial. They will chase and attack people. Cuts and scratches are the main damage. But damage to eyes is a major concern.

I don't think I've ever heard of one killing anyone. Maybe someone on a bike was being attacked and they accidentally went into traffic or something like that?

The Reason Why Third Party Stobe Manfactures Don't Supports P-TTL

I mostly use flash in day light. Triggering flashes from on on board flash means the other flashes have to be in front to see the flash and day time is too bright and doesn't register. Well was hit n miss. I'm sure fine for many people though.

Nikon have gone with a proper radio signal. But so far only in the D5/D500 and the SB-5000 flash.

It's pretty unlikely I'd ever go back to OEM flashes. Pretty darn happy with my Godox system (AD600, AD360 and 3 x V860ii).

Where are you getting that info about only 37 AF points for f5.6? From what I can find all are available up to f8 where it becomes 15.

Canon passes Nikon's Flagship D5 in maximum dynamic range quality

This title is a bit misleading. The D5 isn't even the best Nikon at base ISO. The D810 is. It was one of the major gripes people had when the D5 hit, was that it wasn't that good at base ISO. Try this comparison, with the D810 it it's native base ISO of 64 (which I read somewhere is really ISO 100). And as expected there is very little difference between the D810 and K-1 as they are essentially the same sensor.

I am now a D500 owner and WOW!!! This thing is damn impressive. Makes me wonder how a D5 can be better?

High ISO smacks my D810 silly. And when I went from K3 to D810 I couldn't believe the increased focus performance. But the D500 is another leap forward again.

I don't know if I could live with it as my only camera. Not for what I primarily shoot anyway. But for me the D810/D500 combo is formidable as each has different strengths and I think they compliment each other perfectly.

Needs more of them, covering a greater amount of the frame as well. I believe/hope the next iteration of Pentax cameras should hopefully address this.

If he is ill informed, Pentax has not raised a finger help that situation.

Regardless of your opinion of the guy he along with Matt Grainger and possibly Jared Polin have the greatest audiences on YouTube. And Pentax has not supplied a valuation copy to any of them despite them all asking for it. We should be thankful he was able to get his hands on one at all. And he clearly took some time to get the camera out in its element to test it the best he could with borrowed equipment from one of his viewers in the limited time he would've had.

There are so many things Pentax don't do as far as marketing. And we accept their position in the market allows that. But not getting it out to be reviewed by the major reviewers is a huge mistake.

No I've not used a D500. But I do own a D810 and a K-3 and as for things like autofocus the Pentax isn't in the same game. Not even close. And the D500 has superior AF again. Have you seen the viewfinder coverage?

Actually have you used any other camera in the last century to have any reference for your argument?

As for things like dynamic range, these are not subjective. They are clearly visible.

As for shots a Pentax is not capable of matching? Well there are 4 or 5 more of those for every second of shooting the D500 can get that the Pentax can't. And it can do that in less light. No I have not done it myself to prove it. Nor have you to prove otherwise. I will just take the word of every single reviewer anywhere that is saying it is not only the best crop sensor camera available, by a large margin. But one that rivals the pro level FF cameras.

So nobody ever uses a camera in any way other than the way you do right?

Base ISO's are pretty much identical. From 200 on wards the D500 does walk all over the Pentax. So for landscapes and studio portraits it is on par, and for anything else like photo-journalism, sports, nature, weddings it is vastly superior to anything with a crop sensor and many things FF. It is a hell of a camera! Not cheap, but has the features and abilities to back it up.

You might have got some incorrect info. The D500 compares extremely well with the D750 which up until the D5 was king of the high ISO hill. And walks all over the K-3.

I thought it was a fair enough review. The camera isn't amazing in things like focus and buffer size. But the areas it does do well at it exceeds in and I think Tony addressed that well enough. He could've been more objective in some things. Of course there will not be as mature lens options for such a new system. That's understandable. And I don't think comparing second hand prices is really fair either, but I do see where he is coming from.

I also think that he felt the need to make a reply video is a bit embarrassing. It's not a good look for Pentaxians.
