I enjoyed photography as a teenager, but in later life it has become something I mainly do as a work related function. I think this is largely down to digital photography: it’s just too easy, and requires little thought or preparation. I have therefore recently taken-up film photography for pleasure. The nice thing about buying film cameras is that the models that were prohibitively expensive in my youth are now affordable. My growing camera collection includes a digital Leica (workhorse), plus Contax/Yashicas, Nikons, and an old Miranda. My Pentax cameras are a Spotmatic F, KM, and ME super.
I like fixing things, so have been snapping-up the imperfect offerings on eBay. All of my film cameras have been restored to near mint condition (well as close as I can get). Generally my purchases have needed a through clean, new light-seals and mirror dampers, new leathers (Contax/Yashica), and the odd ephemeral missing items replacing (strap lugs, x sync covers, etc).I’ve done a few more involved repairs, but nothing to brag about.
My interest in the Pentax forum is mainly pre-buying research. |
