I have been flying the Caravan for 16 years now. I like flying by myself and enjoy being home every day. It's a great little airplane.

Fedex and UPS use a ton of them. We (usually) have one UPS 767 in the morning, and about 8 of us "puddle jumpers" (half caravans, the other half beech 1900's) depart to the smaller airports in Michigan with what the 767 brought in.

A couple winters ago enjoying the snow coming in sideways at the Ludington Airport. lol

Was simply showing the difference in a few years with her........from First Officer to Major League slugger.

I use to take both my girls in the Caravan on my freight runs from time to time. They both loved flying.

My other co-pilot from a few years ago:

How she looks now. She just finished up her 4 years in the Navy as an electronics wizard fixing planes. She made E-5 in 2.5 years and graduated #8 out of 520 sailors at her boot camp. Both my girls got their Mother's brains thankfully.

I guess my question was "painting with a broad brush"..........I don't think she is really that interested in taking pics of sports. She seems to like to get up close to stuff and take pics......flowers, bees on flowers, artistic kind of stuff.

Am leaning towards a prime lens for now. They are inexpensive and give very sharp results.

hmmmmmmm..........she enjoys taking closeups of flowers and bees and such for now. That's about all I got to go on.

Had not picked up a K100D in years (using a Nikon D7000 now). Forgot how much I had liked that body. I always thought the colors the camera put out were always top notch. Brought back a lot of memories since I used that camera for thousands of pics of my girls.

Edit: and since college is soooooooo expensive, trying to keep this last "decent" lens under $200.

I have to admit, I jumped ship over to Nikon a couple years ago. Right wrong or indifferent, I did it. Just wanted to come clean on that.

My 3.80gpa 18 year old daughter is starting college this fall and she is a very creative person and she decided to break out the K100D and two kit lens (18-80 Tamron and a 70-300 Sigma) I gave her 3 years ago. She is a very fast learner and already understands the basics of how cameras work, but I want to get her one "decent" lens to add to the kit lens.

What would be your recommendation? Looking for something fairly fast. Thought about a prime lens. Not sure. Thoughts?

Thank you for the replies. I did find earlier another member who had some nice shots of BOC.......hope mine turn out as well.

I need to also read up on how to get my focusing dialed in, as I've never been happy with this camera how it focuses......seems like I have a lot of miss focusing. I know it's my fault.

Heading to the search engine. Really excited about this concert. Thanks again.

One of my cousins is very good friends with the band, and they will be in Mt. Pleasant Michigan for a concert in December. Will have "seats" close to the stage, and, BACK STAGE PASSES!!!!

Am particularly interested in getting good pics of the concert itself. Suggestions on settings/techniques?

My gear is:

Pentax K-30
Pentax f/1.4 50mm
Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 (gonna be too close to the stage for this lens I believe)
The standard kit lens (will probably use this back stage since the 50mm is too long, I think)

How would YOU set up the camera body, for the best pics? Thank you.

I don't post here that often, and if this is a repeat, please delete.

Stumbled into this lens this morning, on sale at Amazon. Never seen it this cheap.

Finally noticed she had a 14 day money back guarantee. Sent her an email, told her I was returning it, and that was that. Cost me return shipping, but live and learn and I really should know better. :/

Anyway, gonna continue my search for a nice camera body to give my friend.

I agree, it does seem a little fishy. I am on my "hunt and peck" cheapo phone and will have to get to work and on my laptop in order to try and piece it together. I might just send her an email, point out too her what you pointed out to me, and ask her to credit my account a couple bucks.

The lens isn't anything special. Certainly not in the same league as my "fast 50" or my Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 lens, but the pics look nice thru my K-30. Lens has a green stripe on it and says made in Vietnam.....probably worth $50 bucks or so......idk.

Yes, that is the auction. I paid $100 shipped.

The lens works very nice, as I tested it on my K-30, so it's not a total loss.

And it is advertised as a "parts camera" but you would think a person would want to come up with a memory card to try it, to try and get maximum dollars for their auction.

Oh well. I gambled and lost or at least didn't get what I was hoping for......a camera to give my friend. At least got a working lens to give him, but still need to find a body I guess.

Thinking I might just dump it and try and find another one. Too bad, since everything else seems to work on it.

I've messed with it a bit. It needs to come apart I think in order to fix it. Darn it.

I had a K100D a couple years ago and sold mine when I upgraded to the K-30. Still miss that old camera since it took fantastic pics. Anyway, I bought this one off Ebay (it also came with a 50-200mm Pentax lens) and was gonna give it to one of my co-workers. I bring my gear with me from time to time to work and he loves messing with it and seeing all the pics I take. I told him to "go get your own stuff and join the fun" but he said he doesn't really have the funds right now. I have literally taken TB's of pics of my kids growing up thru the years and feel it's one of the best things I've ever done. His kids are younger than mine and he really chomps at the bit wanting a decent camera (I was gonna give him my 28-300mm Tamron......jack of all trades lens I don't use anymore), he's a great guy, and I really want to do this for him. Also have a Maha charger, some good batteries, and a memory card to help him with.

Anyway, anybody know how to disassemble this thing in order to get at the catch or return spring thingy?

Have tried 3 different cards and none of them will stay in. They all lock up fine in my K-30.

Anything I can do to fix this problem, or do I now have a parts camera?? :/

Wow, I am such a tard'. Finally got home, fired up my other computer which has Windows 7 on it (my other 2 stallions run Vista yet) and within a couple minutes, had my software uncompressed and loaded onto my camera. Done.

For some reason, I couldn't make any headway with my Vista machines, but the Windows 7 machine brought out the "bin" software you guys were talking about. Copied it onto my SD card, loaded into onto my camera, then that was that.

Sorry about all the drama, and thank you for the help. Feeling better about the camera now. Still feel my K100D pics were better and easier to obtain than my K-30, but maybe with the new software (was running the orignal software) and messing with it more, i can improve my pics.

Thanks again!!! :)

Dude, I'm a cargo pilot, not a wizard!!!!! Like I would know how to do that. lol

I just find this firmware thing frustrating and miss my K100D sometimes. I think all the whistles and bells are for other people, not me. Guess that's why I liked the K100D so much.......didn't have all the options.

I had a thread on this subject a couple months ago, and I STILL can't figure out how to update the firmware on my K-30. Am at the point I just want to throw the camera into the wall and unbox my K100D, which was easier to work and took better pictures. :/

Anyway, here's the pic of what I put on my formatted SD card. I read that i have to "extract" or put this "into the root file" of the SD card. I don't understand that.
