I've got a couple of cameras that I picked up ten years back at a garage sale — a MX and a SP500 — for five bucks apiece. They've been sitting unused on my bookshelf waiting for the day I'd see if they were any good and then try them out. Well, now is the time to get off my ass and see if they're any good.
The problem is I have no idea how to do that. I had a K1000 back in high school but I wasn't very knowledgeable in the internal workings of the thing. I really don't know what to look for in terms of whether these things are in good working condition. Cosmetically, they look like they're in great shape. Everything seems to move smoothly without catching.
I could try to google some generic pointers, but I thought I'd ask the folks here for any specifics regarding these cameras.
Thanks!

Wanting it is one thing. Getting spousal approval is quite another. ;)

Sign me up.
The legacy lenses are supposed to be a selling point, so why not fully embrace them?

Man, those rainbow Eneloops are gorgeous. I wish I'd known they existed -- it looks like they're completely unavailable nowadays.

I've been poking around the site for a while and finally decided to go ahead and register.
I used Pentax film cameras a long, looooong time ago, but haven't really done much of anything in the digital age. I picked up a K110d on the cheap a few years back, but it's just been sitting in its case. I figured I'll work on re-learning how to take photos first before looking to upgrade my gear.
