Pentax KF Solenoid

That solenoid became “problematic” only when the supplier moved production from Japan to China, and changed materials used. Pentax had been working on that problem for several years, and as mentioned by several here, seems to have already solved the problem in K-70 days. I purchased a KP in 2018 specifically to avoid that problem {I owned a K-30 which did develop “Dark Image Syndrome”} but I would no problem at all purchasing a KF if I didn’t already have a KP

We have a member on the german forum (pentaxians.de) who got very deep into the solenoid thing, not only repairing the afflicted cameras, but also researching the technical aspect and the various solenoids used. I have utter tust in his verdict.

According to him the latest generation of solenoid built into the K-70 since start of 2020 is a reliable one.

TDLR, the original DR (Dust removal) system was noisy and less effective. DR II is almost completely silent and in use in current/high end bodies.

All Pentax cameras with SR have either DR or DR II.

Just set it to clean every time you turn on the camera. I have done that since the k-5 (maybe on the k-x as well). It works flawlessly and never need to worry or check for dust.

A lot of those cameras have the sensor shake dust removal, just not the automatic review images.

The KP and some higher end models have an ultrasonic system that in my experience works significantly better.

Yeah, just confirmed that the K70 has sensor shake dust removal, if that was what you were concerned about.
