Hello!
I have been shooting with my K-30 for a little over a year now, and I have accumulated a small manual prime lens collection. I was recently reading about how 28mm's lose their "wideness" on a crop sensor, and I was thinking of picking up a film slr (k1000 probably) so that I could explore the lenses as they were meant to be. I took a photography class 10 years ago, so I am decently versed in how film works, what I am most curious about is the price mark. Are their any pentaxians out there that are meticulous with their money, and have tracked how much they have spent on film photography over time? I told myself I could not buy anymore equipment until I have made a little cash with photography, at least broke even on what I have spent so far.
How much does film cost? processing? prints? whatever I may need. Assuming I do not have darkroom access. Thank you!

Thank you Ron! I am going to do a test print with several versions before I make a final print, I will make it a point to assess that sharpness in print form. I am a B&W enthusiast, and I am quite torn as to if I want this black and white or color. I really think the colors give it the lushness it deserves, but it looks fantastic black and white too! Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! ---------- Post added 04-16-14 at 04:17 PM ----------
No need to be sorry :) Thank you for the feedback. I took this many months earlier, and as of now I actually have accumulated a wider lens, and I have been toying with venturing back there and taking more shots. As there is many imperfections in this picture when I look at it. You may have inspired me to do this :)
Cheers

This is the route I'm going, trying to do whatever I can for free, word of mouth stuff. Theater group is a great Idea, thanks. If someone offered $$ I wouldn't say no...
Pocket money would be good.

So, I've been shooting seriously ( seriously amateur) for about a year now, and i have taken thousands + of pictures. I have at least a few pictures that are not completely terrible. I have learned about printing and successfully printed some various sizes for friends and family and now they are hanging on walls, yay! Now the question comes, how do I start to make a name in my local community, or internet world? I made a fb page that is not quite at 100 likes, and I have an instagram blah blah that I can usually get 20-30 likes if that. I do not think I am a great photographer, but I would like to get involved, mostly so that I can get wisdom from experienced photographers and critics alike. Maybe one day I get a picture on a cover of a magazine, maybe not, wuteva. My question is, where do i go now to start moving into the public eye? Thanks!

Choices choices indeed! I have seen several pictures from the sigma 10-20, and I really enjoy them, If I buy a wide angle it may be this. This camera will not break my bank, and It will give me the wideness I really want. The new 55-300 WR lloks awesome ( the WR thing sells me) ,however I realize at this time I have no idea if I even like shooting with telephoto because I have never really shot with anything other than 18-55 Kit , and a couple of random vintage 50 and 28 primes. As I'm typing this I realized that I KNOW I love wide angles, and I KNOW I want way wider than my 18...so a sigma 10-20 to starting to sound awesome.... and I can worry about the telephoto when summer rolls around! ANYBODY HAVE A SIGMA 10-20 TO SELL( to a broke biology grad student...well, not broke, but ...you know...cheap)????

Nice, I think what I may do is sell 18--55 and pick up the 18-135....but a nice wiiiide angle is really what I want, but a nice telephotowould be awesome too, because I am also an animal lover ;)

Thank you for all of the advice. I'm curious about why putting tape on the aperture ring?
I take a different approach. With a nice DSLR in hand the attention whores of all sorts start puffing their chests out, I take notice and interact with them. Occasionally they will be my subject of interest, other times it is a friend of theirs or someone/something in proximity. Since I can be an attention whore myself sometimes it works perfectly for street. Talk to a group of people long enough and take pictures at semi frequent intervals, eventually they become oblivious and you can achieve the more candid shots, not to mention make a friend or 2.

Indeed I will not be spending anywhwere near 1000 dollars, and some other people mentioned travel as well, i am heeding this advice :)
As a biologist I will indeed steer clear of all things fungus....( well most things)..
