K-500 IR remote not working?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been playing with them all but have still not been able to get the shutter to actuate.
Unless there are any more suggestions I will assume there is a problem with the remote receiver on the camera.

K-500 IR remote not working?

Hi
Looking for some help as I have been scratching my head on this for an hour today.
I used to have a K-X and occasionally used a cheapo ebay ir remote with it which worked well considering the price. I then upgraded to a K-500, selling the K-X but kept the remote. However, it did not work (I have set the shooting mode to IR and the red light is flashing on the front of the camera).
My initial thought was that the battery in the remote was flat so I put in a replacement but it still did not work. I then ordered another cheap remote but again it is still not working (and I have changed the battery again just in case).
So by a process of elimination do I conclude that there is a problem with the ir remote receiver on the K-500?
Has anyone else seen something like this or got any ideas for solving the problem?
Thanks
Chris

Hi
I recently purchased this old lens. It is metal so nice and solid compared to modern kit lenses. Of course it has not automatic focus function but I found that I could get nice sharp focus by using the spot focussing function on my K-500, manually adjusting the focus on the lens until the camera beeped to indicate the spot was in focus and then holding the focus with the shutter half depressed I could compose the photo. Exposure was done with the green button. This all takes a long time seemed to be effective.
I wanted to use the lens for macro work but it is only 1:2 so not true macro. I solved this by adding an extension tube (manual with no glass). All the close ups below were done with the smallest extension tube in the set. Focussing distance was about 4 feet so quite convenient for the subjects.
I was pretty pleased with the results from this lens. I have included a photo of the lens below. Does anyone have any info on it?
Let me know your thoughts on the lens and my photos - all taken on a trip to the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Wiseley just outside on London.
Thanks
Chris

Good idea. I will try it at the week-end (when there is some light again!)

Thanks

Metering with extension tubes - limited exposure?

I have been taking macro shots of watches that I have restored. Generally I am quite pleased with the result, using a light tent and extension tubes with an old 50mm prim lens on my K-X.
I have sanded down the contacts on the tubes to enable metering.
My problem is that I cannot get exposure times beyond 0.8 second.
I switch to manual focus and manual exposure. When I turn on the camera I am asked what focal length lens I am using and I indicate 50mm.
I set the f stop on the lens.
I half press down the shutter to activate the info in the viewfinder. I can then press the green button to stop down the lens and get an exposure value. When I press the shutter I get a good exposure.
This all works fine until I reduce the lens aperture so that the exposure would be longer than 0.8 second. When I stop down with the green button the exposure never gets longer than 0.8 second and the images get progressively under-exposed as I decrease the lens aperture.
I can live with this but there are times when I would want to increase the depth of field using a smaller lens aperture.
Any thoughts on why I cannot get a longer exposure?
Thanks
Chris

Exposure metering using extension tubes with a K-X

I have tried sanding off the black paint where the camera contacts touch the extention tube but it does not seem to have done anything.

I have now discovered that the exposure is correct when the aperture is wide open but when I stop it down the exposure time does not increase so I can only get automatic exposure with maximum aperture which does not give me much control (or depth of field!).

Anyone got any thoughts on what is going one?

Thanks

Chris

Exposure metering using extension tubes with a K-X

Thanks for all the suggestions - unfortunately I am still not able to set automatic shutter speeed.

I have made the changes to the Menu settings.

When I turn on the camera it asks me for the focal length. I am using a 50mm lens from an old SLR with the extension tubes so I enter 50mm.

I set to Manual, the image through the viewfinder is OK, light enough to focus.

When I press either the green button or the +/- button the shutter speed does not change when I change the aperture.

Any more suggestions?

Chris

Exposure metering using extension tubes with a K-X

I am trying to use automatic metering on my K-X using cheap extension tubes.

I have set up the camera to allow aperture ring setting as follows:

Press the Menu button
Press the left button on the four-way controller to get to the Custom Settings menu
Press the down button on the four-way controller and select Using Aperture Ring
Press the down button on the four-way controller, select Permitted and press the OK button.
Press the Menu button to exit the Custom Settings menu

I then set the camera to Manual exposure setting and press the +/- button which is supposed to set an appropriate shutter speed. However, it is much too fast so the image is almost black.

Any clues on what I am missting?

Thanks

Chris
