Vivitar lens question

[QUOTE=SOldBear;496377]There is only a minor problem: it does not have "Manual" setting. So it depends on the camera body to push the pin in to close the aperture before the shutter release. That is of course not posible with a body with PK mount, so you need to modify the lens to set it permanently in "manual" (stop-down) mode.

SOldBear i was wondering if you had any tips on how to modify new lens as you mentioned?

Thanks for the replies…

Well LBA struck again and I went ahead and bought the lenses. I did try the 50mm on my Spotmatic and the mirror did hang up, but only when focused completely out so I will have to remember that in the future.
Thank you SOldBear for checking in to the Yashinon I appreciate the post…I do like the lens it is very clear and yes I agree that it is almost as sharp as my Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4.
As for the 300mm it is a nice old lens, all glass and metal got to love how they made them back in the day.
hinman, I did check on the serial # and it starts with 37, do does that mean it was made by Tokina and is just a rebadge?

Once again thanks for the reply…always good to get other Pentaxian opinions.

Vivitar lens question

Hi all, does anyone know much about the Vivitar 300mm f5.5 lens? i have the chance to buy it along with a Yashinon 50mm f1.7 both for $25. both lenses are screw mount and should fit my Spotmatic and my KX with an adaptor.
i have looked at both and they look good, but i think the blades on the Vivitar are a bit slow and the 50mm might recess into the camera body too much when focusing to infinity...
any info would be appreciated.

I could be way off base here but wasn’t there a Sears KS camera that could fit the bill of the description also? KS…K2 not a far stretch?

glad that I am not the only one that feels that way...I feel like Pentax gets a bad rap because it is not C*non or N*kon. :hmm:

spotmatic SP and K100D Super, and I still love picking up the spotmatic and snapping off a few shots.
I like the old all metal camera bodies...if they made one now but digital would I buy it? I would sure think about it...

I don't think film will ever die, it is just a matter of how many people will carry it on. one thing film has going for it is that peolpe who are learning all over right now are still learning on the good old K1000, and for tht you need film...and you have to think that even though the digital age is upon us there will always be people who like the feel and nostalgia of film.
I myself am looking for a good KX body now because nothing else compares to that feel and sound as a good film camera.

Hi everyone,
I am a new member here and just wanted to introduce myself and tell everyone a little bit about me. I am 33 and have been shooting with Pentax for a while on a Spotmatic that was given to me. I recently upgraded to a K100D Super and love every second. I looked at the top manufactures of DSLRs and it just seems that Pentax is a much better fit for me, not only equipment wise but also in attitude and perspective. It seems that too many times people get too wrapped up in the equipment and forget about the fun of just taking good pics. After having read through several forums including this one I have found that Pentaxians hold true to the love of photography and that comes through in the discussions here. That is what I was looking for in a SLR system, not to mention I already had a SMC 50mm f1.4 and 135mm f2.8 to start off with from my Spotmatic.
Well that is where I stand in a nut shell, I look forward to posting and learning from all of you…one thing I have already caught is the lens bug, I find myself looking for various items on eBay and where ever else I can at any given time.

SMC Yellowing...

Hi this is my first post...and need some advice...
I have been toying with how to get my great SMC 50 f1.4 back to normal. I have a sharp copy of this lens but over time it has started to yellow as some older copies do, something to do with a radioactive element used in the lens. I have heard that you can wrap the lens in foil and put it in the sunlight and this will reverse or at least help to reduce the yellowing effect.
My question is what is the best way to wrap the lens? And some say to wrap the entire lese but others say to leave the mount end exposed?
Can anyone give me a better description on how to perform the foil fix?

thanks,

Migz
