Thanks, and agreed. I turned down a trade offer...That sexy and somewhat rare silver model should have disappeared...oh well, I'll keep waiting. Price seems reasonable since it includes shipping/insurance and PayPal fees...
K5 sensor is really impressive. Editors seem to like the images it produces...

Gloves and working in cold temperatures

There are lots of gloves that will keep you warm...but will those gloves let you operate your camera? From my experience, most won't let your fingers be nimble enough. But now for the past 15 years or so, I've been thrilled beyond words with the Black Diamond Glove Liners--Midweight Screentap Gloves. I have pairs in my various photo kits, pairs in my truck, pairs in my boat, pairs stuffed in pockets of my various coats...best glove for both usability with little camera buttons and for warmth. As liners, they are slim enough to fit into whatever heavier outer glove shell you already own during those down moments when you don't need nimble fingers.

I live in the North and recreate outdoors almost daily year-round. These gloves are the absolute best for handling equipment in the cold.

Item for Sale
Pentax K-5 Limited Silver and Grip--Only One Other Ever Posted For Sale on This Forum! (Price Reduced)

Asking Price
295.00 USD

Item Location
Montana (United States)

Item Description
Yes, it really is that classy. Such a functional camera--the K-5--and the eye appeal of this silver body is quite nice.

Only 1500 were made for worldwide distribution. It is truly a different version of the K-5. This version differs from standard K-5--and not just the silver body, knobs and fittings. It also has a larger contoured grip, bigger 3" LCD screen with scratch proof, shock resistant, reinforced glass protective cover (top screen too). Slight dust under left corner of rear LCD.

Look at the steller scores and reviews for the K-5 on this forum. Lowest noise images you are likely to ever see. My camera has produced many dozens of published images for the periodical and web content markets. It's still capable!

13,316 shutter count and cared for nicely--very low humidity life, minimal wear.

Includes box, grip w/both battery trays, battery, charger, unused strap & hardware, flash shoe cover, printed manual (not pictured and dogeared).

I'm a long-time forum member and easy to buy from.

Interesting how the 77 is so well liked. Me too! All three of my amigos are SMC and MIJ early serial numbers...ranked 77, 31, 43

The color rendering and other less tangibles just sing opera from the 77! Both 31 and 77 are my go-to intimate landscape lenses and they really rock at f16...

Not sure why I also struggle to make the 43 more important in my day-to-day shooting? It has the most unusual rendering compared to other quality normal lenses, but I only use it rarely? The 31 and 77 aren't unusual but SUPERUSUAL if that's a word?

Mr. 77 isn't big...

It's delicious!

Yeah, yeah, wide open yada yada. Stop him down to f16 and amaze yourself! Shoot some mixed natural floral colors...reds, greens, whites, tans...pseudo macro stuff is a strength of this lens. The intimate landscape stuff...it was originally designed for fashion photo work so really seems to like portrait distances and subtle differences in hues...

Wow! That lens is in incredible condition! Love the image quality from mine. All the original tests from outside sources showed this lens to build sharpness as you zoom with best sharpness at 200mm! Pretty much all lenses in this range lose sharpness as you zoom.

Better than fantastic lens...both A* and FA* 200/4 Macro lenses are a joy to use and produce stunning images. I had both for a year before opting to keep the FA* but that's not a rejection of the A*. You want pro macro capabilities this lens delivers!

Yes, to the original color-coded bags! A bit heavier and nicer hand-feel, stout enough to stand at attention nicely. Better scuff resistance than the current black bags. First Limited-ever-came in the tan bag. Second Limited came in the dark green bag. Third Limited came in the burgundy bag. Those who play the "three amigos" game know the lens' order of release--mini brain game for us all. I paid "early adopter premium" for my lowish serial number MIJ silver lenses. My bags are being sequestered and saved while my amigos are resting comfortably in the Pentax dedicated tube semi-hard case that holds all three together in one case.

Gitzo Series 5 no center post w/Arca Swiss B2 bi-direction head (Used with massive telephotos like 600/4), Gitzo Series 3 no center post w/Arca Swiss B1 head (daily user and travel), Manfrotto 3021 w/Arca Swiss B1 (Stays in the boat at all times), several table-top and ground level units (usually used with mini Ricoh action cams...sometimes macro).

Availability of Parts Plus Repair:
I have no option but the finer pro targeted products with parts & repair capability because I'll wear out or break parts on any brand. Have replaced feet on all tripods I've ever owned, a leg--it didn't support my truck, re-riveted legs to fittings once loosened from wear, rebuilt/replaced leg clamps on Manfrotto, had Arca Swiss heads rebuilt when the off-axis auto-tightening function wears out--it's a nylon sleeve/cup...etc.

If the company doesn't have readily available parts lists nor a repair department, their products will be short term for me...like Bic lighters.

43 Silver MIJ -- screws color (or, was the lens served or is it a natural finish)?

I think it's just a difference in reflectivity (or is the word reflectiveness?). The silver of the lens barrel is not raw metal but an applied coating. That coating is not applied to the screws. I've noticed the difference on my MIJ 43 in the past. Can't check it from work today as I only have a 20-40 Ltd, 15 Ltd and new 100 Macro with me at work today. Betting it's just the raw metal of the screw and it doesn' pop as shiny.

Understanding Pentax Premium Lens Designations

As a star lens Fan Boy I've owned:
M* for K mount
M* for 67--multiple
A* for K mount--multiple
FA* for K mount--numerous
None of the DA* or DFA* hummm...

For several decades the star was/is the designation for Pro quality lenses--noting that what is considered "pro quality" varies a bit from one decade to the next. And as mentioned by others, not all star lenses measured up with the FA*24/2 being one in particular that struggled to shoot an acceptable image. My copy was pitiful on film and I only kept it for a couple wasted rolls. However the FA* 80-200/2.8 was the market-topper with better resolution (3rd party tests) than all the other brands and got even more sharp as you zoomed toward 200mm which no other brand of 80-200's could do. I still shoot this one rather than the modern * zoom.

For the OP, what the letters are in front of the star really just indicates the era of the lens. M* is older, like '80's vintage. A* is late '80's into the '90's. FA* is '90's into early '00's and both DA* and DFA* are what an old feller like me calls late-models. The star means it's a pro quality lens for the era

Limiteds have been well described by other posters. But I have to comment on the original 3 Amigos--the first 3 Limited lenses (31, 43 and 77 MIJ with colored pouches) were designed by a long-time Pentax engineer and were designed specifically for the unique rendering. Unique coatings too, rather than standard SMC. Many have forgotten that the 77 was designed for fashion photography and rendering of both textures and colors, flesh tones too. I think I still have the original Pentax press releases for each of the 3 Amigos and I still love shooting all three of them! Call it pixie dust, micro-contrast, unique rendering or whatever, they do phenomenal work. They are also typically reviewed positively for their performance wide open. I personally think that where they shine the most notably is when stopped down into the f.11 and f. 16 world, but that's where I hang out most often so I'm biased.

And finally, just because a Pentax lens has no * or Ltd. designation doesn't mean it's just a pedestrian consumer lens. There are some real dandy "plain-jane" lenses in the Pentax archives. The now old-school FA 20-35/4 is a full-frame killer of a lens that has produced numerous published images for me. I'm on a freelance blogging contract for a multi-brand manufacturer of outdoor products and have surprised myself with really nice product photos using the 20-35/4...definitely NOT what the lens was designed for, but it works really well for that purpose as well as the expected wide ish outdoor action shots. Pretty much every one of us on the forum has one or two of these non-pro lenses that we love just as much as a * or Ltd. lens.

Agree with Chris, the sounds that flash generates are from the zoom mechanism and it's surprisingly loud on that flash.

Half dozen Pentax DSLR's and a couple dozen lenses, all fine no adjustments needed for those times when autofocus is used. Probably 80% manual focus or preset fixed focus for my types of shooting.

My new 100 Macro is delayed. Instead of today, arrival is now Wednesday. I also have the previous WR version but won't have time to do a decent comparison. I'll just sell off the old and move on with the new...
