I have had a 540 get stuck on a K10 body during a wedding that I was photographing at Reynolds Plantation. I put the 540 on the K10 to photograph the bride as she was getting her hair & makeup done and when I tried to remove the flash, the flash disagreed. So basically I had to be very careful during the actual ceremony and reception because I didn't want to break off the flash foot.

I've been using rechargeable NiMH C cells in the TR III battery pack for a few years and the recycle time is about 2 seconds (!) for a full pop. The only thing I would say is that if your photographing an event or wedding, just be sure to give the flash unit a chance to cool down. I've actually felt the 540 flash head get really warm after a number of full power pops (usually as the bride & groom are leaving the alter).

Hi, Ben. I've been using Bibble 4 since Jan. 2007 and I've played around a bit with Bibble 5. Just keep in mind that Bibble 5 is not a fully functional program yet so the latest official (that is, supported) version of Bibble is 4.10. My comments are regarding Bibble 4.10.
PROS:
- REALLY inexpensive and a great value
- very clean interface with most of the useful features
- several pretty handy built in auto features (stripped down version of noise ninja, perfectly clear)
- allows me to go through the hundreds of pictures from a wedding or event very quickly and efficiently
- fast batch processing
CONS:
- Bibble 4 was not very stable. I'm not a programmer so I don't know what a kernal exception or whatever means but the program will crash once or twice a month. Requires a reboot.
- Very slow to add new cameras for raw support. I think the lag is a few months from camera release to updated Bibble which supports the new raw files. And Bibble does NOT support dng.
I'll say that the lack of dng support and the lag between updates to support new cameras is a little annoying but the biggest drawback I've had to Bibble is the instability. Fortunately, the program doesn't crash that often but it crashed more than any other program I've bought.
As I said earlier, I've downloaded the Bibble 5 beta but I don't use it much because I don't have a lot of time to learn right now to relearn all of the things I can do currently in Bibble 4. Also, I am very close to switching away from Bibble to Lightroom because of the program crashing. I just haven't made the decision yet because I'll have to shell out a couple of hundred bucks for Lightroom and then I'll have a program that I paid $150 for but am no longer using. I know Bibble 4 is a sunk cost but it's still difficult to move on!

I don't know about the best brand but I've been using rechargeables in my flash units since forever. I have 48 (!) low self discharge AA's that I bought from all-battery.com They're relatively inexpensive and I've been satisfied with the performance. I wanted to get eneloops but they were SOOOO much more than the others! I also use Ni-MH rechargeables in the TR-III battery pack (for the 540 flash) and I'm very happy with the performance. I do weddings and events so the fast recycle rate is important.

I live about 2 miles from the KEH offices and I've bought a number of lenses from them. I believe they are an honest business but remember, they are a business. My only "issue" is that they charge me to pick up a lens. It's a couple of bucks but still, how much does it cost to open the door and hand me the lens?
But I have (and will continue) to recommend KEH to anyone looking to buy used photographic equipment.

I'm assuming you're already knowledgeable with darkroom procedures. As for equipment, I would be less inclined to buy from ebay mainly because I'm assuming it would be REALLY expensive to ship an enlarger! The last enlarger I owned was a Continental XL and the thing weighed 20+ lbs, had a base that was probably 24" x 24" and was about 30" tall.
As for setting up a home darkroom, here are my thoughts. When I still did my own film developing, I was unable to have a dedicated darkroom so I generally setup a temporary darkroom in a bathroom with no windows. The bathroom was the best option for me because I had access to water, a sink, and an already installed film clip hanger rods (also called a shower curtain rod :) )
The obvious problem with using a bathroom as a darkroom was the copious amount of light leaking around the door so the big thing was to create a light-tight seal around the door. My solution was to take poster board (very heavy paper), cut it into long strips about 4-5 inches wide, and tape those strips to the outside of the door. When installed, the paper strips extended beyond the edge of the door and covered the gap between the door and doorframe. As for the bottom of the door, I generally just used a towel.
Because the darkroom was temporary, I bought a couple of large plastic containers and I kept all of the chemicals, trays, etc. in these containers. I also bought a couple of plastic water bottles to reuse any mixed chemicals but I gave that up pretty quickly because the chemicals generally went bad before I reused them.

For me, simplicity and cost are primary factors so I duplicate all files onto 2 external hard drives. I've had a hard drive fail but that wasn't a big deal because I had another copy of all the files so I went out that same day and bought another 500 GB external drive for about $80.

I found a series of photos I took a few years ago which show the perspective issue I previously mentioned.
This first picture is simply to give you a sense of scale; notice the barrister's bookcase in left-hand side of the picture, next to the door way. This case is about 5 feet tall.
The second picture was taken with the camera at eye-level; the bookcase provides a reference for the camera height.
The final picture was taken by holding the camera at about 4 feet.

The one suggestion I have is regarding interiors. My experience has been that if you take a picture with the camera at eye level (5-6 feet), there is an usual downward looking perspective. If you simply drop down to about 3-4 feet, you get a much more natural perspective. Try it out for yourself and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of B&M options when it comes to Pentax gear. I've been to Showcase and they have lots of accessories but no Pentax gear (at least when I was there a few months ago.) Sometimes Camera Bug has some Pentax equipment but they're a smaller shop so I don't know if they'll have much in stock. Good luck.

As for you question regarding what lens to get next, it depends on what you want to do and your budget. But in general, I recommend prime lenses as they are very inexpensive for the optical quality and speed (max aperture).

I actually use a microSD card reader as my flash drive because it's as small as any flash drive I've seen.
