Pentax k-1 and hss with bowens xms500

I 100% assure you, I don't drive for this exact reason. Yes I'm not fun to be around today, very very stressed and a bit fed up. I think that's what i'm going for regarding the returns. I've just ordered some Godox AD600 Pros, let's hope I get some results from that instead. Just really bloody disappointing!

This seems to be a running theme with things no longer in business and me buying them and wondering why I can't find a solution (like Bowens, though they are back!) I'll check them out. Thanks again for the input :)

Thanks for the detailed response :)

Yes, I did come across the Cactus ones online. I saw some people say they were a bit glitchy? Do you find this too or not?

I actually have some continuous Godox lights, I hadn't heard of the brand before and was doing some research. I was sold on their Bowens S mount as for film making means I could just use all my light modifiers for flash without needing adapters and the likes!

I know the Godox AD600 pros are a bit more expensive £860 vs £600 but I do like that you can take the Godox on location with a battery and mains for the studio. I think i'll need to bite the bullet and just pay the extra if its what I want. Thank you so much again, really helpful.

Sorry can people just answer my actual question about flashes, I just had a small rant about the lack of things available and your comments aren't really useful to me?

I did just say its frustrating in the original post.

Thanks.

Did you even read the question? Probably not. If you can't answer that's fine, let me rant.

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out/listen to me vent.

I just bought some new Bowens XMS500s which look amazing, I was in need of some new lights as the second hand gemini espirt 500s I have just don't fire continuously and aren't reliable for shoots so looked in to getting 2 more strobes to go with the Bowens gemini 400s that work, so that I have 4 lights that fire when I have clients.

After a little research on newer Bowens lights I saw the Bowens XMS500 offered HSS and I've got some great creative plans with HSS this year so was thrilled when I saw the XMS500s offered HSS at 1/8000th. Problem is, as you probably can already guess is that there isn't a compatible trigger from Bowens (that I can find anyway) with Pentax for the K-1. As i've had a little time off from photography i'm a bit rusty with things like triggers and slaves and didn't realise that the basic (cheaper) triggers won't let you do HSS. Flashes fire fine at 1/200th but can't seem to get them to fire any more than that with the current triggers.

At the moment I'm just feeling really frustrated, I spent all night trying to find some triggers that will allow me to use my Pentax K-1 in HSS with my new Bowens XMS500 which came yesterday. Is this just not possible at all? I've contacted the Bowens customer support team to ask if they know a work around but I think I know the answer.

I'm getting really really fed up of the lack of lighting options available for Pentax and I just don't understand how there can be so little options unless you shoot Canon, Nikon and Sony.

I came across the Godox X Pro-P Pentax transmitter last night and jumped for joy and just went to collect one, only to find that I don't think there's a work around to use this either with my Bowens lights and they only work with Godox lights and not through a third party (to use HSS anyway), Godox do happen to have Bowens S mount so there lights could be an option I guess.. I'm now looking at the GODOX AD600 PRO but they are more expensive than the Bowens and I don't know if my Gemini 400s will work together on cell mode with them

I'm just tired of everything needing a work around. Feel like Pentax need to pull their finger out and make it easier for us to use other equipment with their brand. I really like their cameras and lenses but just feeling exhausted by things not being so simple all the time.

Pentax k-1 won't tether pcp issue

Hi everyone,

I've had my k1 a little while and getting back in to shooting more and was wanting to shoot tethered for ease as I have a shoot tomorrow.

However, after getting a new tether tools cable, everything plugs in okay and then the camera is basically dead. It says PCP at the top and I basically can't even take a picture on the camera.

On Lightroom it can't find the camera to tether to, I've downloaded the correct plug in and tried different ports.

My pentax is version 1.5, when I checked this was still fine and should tether normally but its no good.

I'm now charging my battery before upgrading to the newest firmware but I'm not sure if its going to help.

If its any use i'm using the new Macbook pro M1 Max. Just wondering if anyone had similar problems? Seems to not be much info out there on this.

K-1 for filming. Which Gimbal?

Of course! It should be here next week or the week after and I'll get some video test footage. This thread is on 319 views so this is obviously a big issue for many of us working with the K1, so hopefully it'll help at least one person out. I love stills too! I just want to expand my career opportunities, the majority of advertisements are moving image so it can't hurt to learn. Even a lot of photography jobs and junior positions want someone who can work with video now. I'll probably get another camera body for filming at some point.. maybe second hand? We shall see. But I digress, I think if you're going to go in to a job with some sort of filming it doesn't hurt to invest. There's always going to be great budget options too. Hopefully some people will post on here their videography experiences with the K1 and shed more light :)

K-1 for filming. Which Gimbal?

Hey! I've bit the bullet and ordered the DJI Ronin-S. It's SO so expensive for me that it's gone on a card but I think if you want a career in film which is what most photographers are moving in to anyhow it might be a good option. You might be loads stronger than me, I'm a small female, so weight and amount of equipment needs to be something I always think about with gear which is a bit annoying. The ronin-s is pretty heavy but it looks like it can do A LOT, so you can attach a monopod/tripod to it as well which is amazing. If you don't mind putting in the leg work all manually then a glider would be amazing too. I've read good things about both the Glidecam and Ikan but as I'm a newbie I think the Ronin-s might be more friendly to me. I will keep you updated with the Ronin S and if anyone else gives me suggestions also :)

K-1 for filming. Which Gimbal?

Hey everyone,

I originally purchased the Pentax K-1 for image only and haven't been disappointed. I've been with the brand for a while and i've decided to delve in to videography and filmmaking and started out just using my drone. The whole point is to create things like basic fashion film or potentially for short films until hopefully I can get a job somewhere, where there's better filming equipment.

The quality is decent, but isn't 4k and at this moment in time that's not the issue as I'm hardly working with big clients and i'm certainly not working on any feature films.

I've been shooting handheld and whilst this isn't a massive issue at the moment, it's difficult to take certain shots that look cinematic and professional and the shake is really prevalent when you open it up in Premier Pro, that could be easily eliminated with a decent gimbal. I've used a tripod a little bit but there's only so much you can do with it.

I'm just wondering if there's anyone on here that's worked with a Pentax K-1 and a gimbal? I've been looking at motorized 3 axis ones such as the Ronin-S or Zhiyun crane 2 as potential 'budget' gimbals, although these are still pretty expensive at just under £700 (and not really what i'd consider a budget but filming is new to me). However, as some of you might know the Ronin/Zhiyun is compatible with most DSLRs but obviously not Pentax. I can still use my DSLR with it, it just excludes some functions (and will be able to use many other, more mainstream ones with those two brands) but I don't know if there's a better option here?

Are there any videographers who are using the Pentax k1 i or K1 ii? As I said, I'm primarily working with photography but advancing and learning is always something I strive to do. Ideally I just need something portable that I can use for filming things that can assist me in learning professional videography techniques.

Thanks in advance :)

Yongnuo and Ray Flash ANYONE!?

Hey everyone,

I'm determined to get a Ray Flash for my Yongnuo 560iii as you can pick one up on ebay for next to nothing second hand.
Problem is, is that I have no idea which model would fit it. Can't find any info online regarding people working with Ray flashes and yongnuo 560iiis or if they do there's no info on which model they've used.

Does anyone have a ray flash that they use with their yongnuo 560s (any of the 560-560iii) that can tell me straight off the bat which model I need.
The model I have is a Ray flash RAN160 which is obviously incompatible.

P.s I know there's the O-flash but I don't think the lighting is particularly even on it - but i'm open to suggestions if anyone has any good images to show from them :)

Hahaha I know what you mean, but my laptop doesn't have a card reader build in and I don't have a card reader, the other option was to download the file and put the folder in to the camera once its connected to the computer via a cable :) It worked!

Deleted the DCIM Folder from Pentax K5iis?! HELP!

I recently updated my camera to the newest firmware available but since I wasn't using a card reader I was using a cable to connect to the camera and had to copy and paste the firmware in to the camera.

I was half asleep however and deleted the file stupidly. I never really questioned it either because the camera was working fine and I could view the images I took on the back of the camera today.

I got home after some shooting and tried to get to the files to download and there is nothing!? Obviously because it needs a DCIM folder :/

I'm using a file recovery now but will I have to use that each time I want to get images off my camera now? Is there anyway to get the DCIM folder back on? Can't find anything about it online :(

Thanks for your help in advance.

Tokina SD 28-70mm 3.5-4.5 K mount on K-5IIS

Hello everyone,

Hoping someone could help me, I recently purchased a Pentax K-5IIs after reading its reviews, looking at the quality and the impressive low price!
As I have not won the lottery, and i'm a student.. I read that I could use older K mount lenses on the Pentax K line of cameras. After doing a bit research I found a great lens on ebay which is a Tokina SD 28-70mm for cheap and in fab condition so I bought it! It arrived today however and it only slots in 180 degrees where the red dot on my camera is! I've tried to turn it to fully attach but it just will not! I can't seem to find much info on it but from what I have read (with other K pentax cameras, though no K-5IIS) it is supposed to work fine..

Has anybody had this problem? I understand either it won't fit or i'm doing something wrong but my new Pentax FA 50mm slots in perfectly so it ain't the camera!

No idea what I am doing wrong, I thought I wouldn't need an adapter :(
