Mine still worked great last time I checked. The autofocus is garbage but that was part of the design. Takes great pics with the 40mm that came with it.

Too bad about the aperture block. I bought a LN pink K-50 late last year from KEH. It had about a 200 shutter count and arrived DOA. They were great on the return but I don't want to have anything to do with a crop cam that is susceptible to this inherent disaster.Against my better judgement I just threw a K-S2 w/ 18-50 in the cart and it adds about $50 in tax and shipping. Hard pass.
I really need to find a nice K-3 or K-3II before Ricoh dumps the Pentax brand. Do one or both of the current APS-C cams come with the fatal defect?

My 50mm f1.8 ordered on 10/04 was delivered a week ago. USPS put it in the mailbox a few hours after the regular 1st class delivery. Tracking said "door or box". It barely fit the box. Very well packaged. The lens box was fully wrapped in thick crumpled paper inside a heavy corrugated box. I hope they deliver my 55-300mm before y'all put 'em out of business:lol: The price offsets the thrill of (relatively) immediate gratification.

Got this email a few minutes ago:
I placed my order for the DA 50mm f1.8 on 10/04 (same date as the post). I don't think Ricoh's official US online retailer has shipped one yet.

If you compose and focus your shots on the K5-iis only using the lcd screen then the K-01 may be the right camera for you:hmm:

FWIW, I received an email from Sure Source encouraging me not to cancel my order for the DA 50mm f1.8. They "expect" to ship within 30 days ( 54 from when I placed the order).
I saw mixed reports on the lens performance wide open. Some said great while others noted softness and chromatic aberration. If you're commenting on this thread anyways and own one I'd appreciate any feedback:lol:

They're stating "backordered items ship within 10 days". I know of one that has been back ordered since 10/04/2014. At least no one is calling it a "pricing mistake" yet.

FWIW, if I wasn't reading this forum I'd assume nothing more or less than I'm waiting for a backorder to be filled so they can ship my 50mm lens. I wasn't overcharged, canceled, and everything from the tracking and Paypal indicates I should be receiving a lens as soon as it is in stock.

Pentax eyepieces are still in production and widely available. They seem to sell quite well at a premium price.

If you see the pic of the Vixen VSD 100 F3.8 it looks like a Pentax 100SDUF and is mounted on what looks like a 645D .

Pentax quit selling telescopes. It is good that their designs are reappearing so long as they meet or excede the original. This particular telescope is really more of a camera lens and quite difficult to obtain on the secondary market. I stumbled across this info when I was trying to use my camera in prime focus to shoot the Moon on another Vixen telescope.

My cell phone and P&Ss auto focus better than my K-01. If the original firmware was really that much worse I'm surprised they weren't all returned as defective. If Pentax was concerned with increasing their customer base a landfill would have been a better dumping ground than the market.
