The fact of it not having an articulating screen just about kills it for me, but if it does not have tethering, for me it would be a waste of money !

Pentax comes out with more advanced video ability, and no articulating screen ... are they nuts !
Lets see if the new K-3 has tethering, I hope so !
So far I'm not to impressed !

Does anyone have an idea what the ISO rating will be on the K-3 ?
I'm hoping that it is as good as the K-5 series is in low light, for me that is a big point.

With all the cameras with articulating screens I have not heard much problems.
Canon just announced the 70D with an articulation screen, all my Sony NEX cameras have articulating screens as do some of the Sony DSLR cameras. The only reason I see not to have an articulating screen is it adds a bit to the bulk of the camera ..... but it also adds tremendously to the use of the camera and the ease of operation for studio shooting and point of view shots that would be just about impossible without an articulating screen.
I hope the next high end Pentax has an articulating screen or an attachment for one.
The last year or so I have not picked up my Pentax gear as the Sony NEX with an articulating screen is SOOOOOOOO much easier to use. In daylight you do need an EVF, or a good screen shade though.
So much for my musing, I'm heading out to drink beer down on main street as today is Farmers Market day here ;- )

IMHO, it was not the size that killed the K-01 .... it was the fact that it did not have an articulating screen and no provision for a EVF !
The body size is not the reason I did not get a K-01, it was the features I mentioned. Because of that I bought a NEX 5n and have never looked back. I convinced my general manager to buy one and in fact he bought two, we use them for our business all the time. I hope Pentax's next generation of cameras are cutting edge for sure.

Well, you may not want to leave out FF altogether, but for me it is not needed.
APS-C sensors are very good now and I don't print images larger than 13 x 19 or so.

All my catalog stuff and other photographic adventures were shot up till last year with Pentax. Pentax announced their new mirrorless, and when I learned it did not have a EVF or and articulating screen, I went looking for options. I settled on the Sony 5n and have not at all been disappointed.
I no longer need to lay on the ground to get low angle shots, I no longer have to just about break my neck on a ladder to see the view finder ..... and I could go on and on. Those of you who have not used one and have not experienced the huge benefits don't realize.... could you imagine a video camera without an articulating screen, not going to happen.
I was so impressed with the NEX system, our office manager now has two of them and uses them for our web page and forum stuff, I have two of them and I don't see myself ever using my Pentax for catalog stuff ever again, the tilting screen is soooooo much easier to use.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE Pentax fan boy, I love their quality and their ergonomics are second to none. I have way to many K20D's to talk about, safes full of Pentax lenses and I love my K-5 for concert stuff ....... I'm just venting about a feature I would love to see implemented.
Anyway so much for my rant, it's your turn ;- )

Is that Pentax won't have a articulating screen!
If They don't it could be a major game changer for me.
I have lots of Pentax cameras and lenses, and a articulating screen makes taking some images so much easier. i would have to take a hard look at my system.
I purchased a Sony NEX 5n last year, and since then have barley used my Pentax cameras (I have more that 6 Pentax DSLR's), just because the articulating/tilting screen of SONY makes image taking so much easier.
I'm waiting, I love Pentax and their quality, but I think an articulating screen is very, very important.

Thank you very much, I agree.
If Pentax decides to do it, then they will. In the meantime shoot what Pentax offers, and if you don't like it .... sell your Pentax gear and buy Nikon or Canon or ? Man alive, I have been listening to the FF whiners for the past 5 years !

The tiltable screen and the EVF are the two issues why I went to the Sony NEX system, even though ALL my equipment is Pentax. Can't
tell you how many K20D's I own, a couple of Kx's and a K-5, not to mention just about every lens Pentax makes !
Pentax really blew it for me when they came out with a mirrorless camera without a tiltable screen and EVF, two major mistakes IMHO.

Yes, that is something Pentax has done pretty well until the K-01 thing
The K-20D was a great camera in its time and good high ISO for that time. Pentax then had a hiccup tith the K-7 but I think they learned from it. As we all know the K-5 was a major winner and the Pentax engineers did a great job of getting every bit of resolution out of the Sony sensor. It looks like the K-30 will be a show stopper also and should be a hit.
Pentax knows, that in today's market and with the fierce competition, a mistake can be disastrous. I thing pentax will come up with a revamp of the K-5 as that is a great camera, it may have a few more tweaks to the sensor or a generation 2 of the same sensor and possibly a new processing engine and faster AF, etc, etc.
The FF, if it Pentax does produce one will be a huge deal for them. I bet my bottom dollar it will be as small as Pentax can make a FF and be loaded with features. I very much hope it has an articulating LCD and tethering, two features that have been lacking and two features that make shooting much easier for sure.
We will see what happens, exciting times.

The K-01 IMHO really missed the boat. No EVF and no articulating screen, without those two I would not care if it was a medium format camera, How Pentax could make a mirror less without those two crucial features is beyond me.
Yes, I know the image quality is great, and I love the fact that all my Pentax glass can be used (a very nice feature). I also don't care about the extra body size. The grip is too small IMHO and I wish next time I wish Pentax would use the same design team that made the K-30 ... now that camera look cool, let Marc Newson design chairs and watches, just my opinion !

I agree 100 %. I would love to see an articulating LCD and high quality focus peaking ability, what ever Pentax wants to do extra is fine, but the articulating LCD and focus peaking are of major importance !

That is a prototype of many years ago, I think in 2007. I'm sure the FF, if there is one in the next ten years will look much different ;- )
APS-C sensor technology is on such an advancement, I doubt FF will be needed. FF is an old throw back to the film days .... and they are gone !

LOL, LOL LOL.
I for one am so tired of hearing about the FF cr@p. If you want a FF, buy Nikon, Canon or ? who cares. When you bought into Pentax you know what you were getting into. If Pentax decides in the future to go to FF, then fine, but this relentless FF or I'm jumping ship, just cracks me up !

If you have ever shot studio, or product photography you would greatly appreciate an articulating screen. Shooting architecture and items of interest without being on the ground to get a POV shot is a major plus.
No, the articulating screen is not for amateurs, it is a very, very important addition to your camera system. Ever try to shoot a small animal, flower etc at very low groung level and get the POV you want without an articulating screen ....NOT !
I bought the Sony NEX5n just because Pentax in there infinite wisdom came out out with a mirror less camera without a articulating screen or EVF, but instead designed a camera for a window display in Beverly Hills.
