K1 and Sigma 150-500mm OS

I've only had the camera for a week and not really had the chance to spend a lot of time with it, but like an over excited kid I had to try some of the lenses. The 150-500mm seems better on the K1 than the K3ii/5 so far in dull light. From what I've read the 300mm is better but without the versatility of the zoom. But for birds etc its usually all about longer focal length. Really kicking myself for not getting the K1 when it came out. Was building a lens base at the time and have to save to get things.

K1 and Sigma 150-500mm OS

Yes. AF2 selected on the K1 as it is on the K3ii, but with the K1, the lens OS is only activated by the AF button. On the K3ii, the lens OS is activated by the shutter button, not the AF button, so you can recompose without altering the focus, which is the whole idea of the back AF button.

K1 and Sigma 150-500mm OS

Thanks but the point of enabling the back button AF is to disable the shutter button AF. This is ok but on the K3ii and 5 in this mode, a half press on the shutter switches on the OS on the lens without the focussing being enabled on said shutter button. The K1 does not behave the same way. Hope this makes sense. Regards, Geoff.

K1 and Sigma 150-500mm OS

Don't know if this has been posted before, apologies if it has. Recently bought a K1 (shop soiled) and using the sigma 150-500mm OS on the K1. The OS works ok but I tend to use back button focus. The OS works by pressing the AF buttion, but On a K3ii or K5, using the same set up, the OS activates with a half press of the shutter button, but not on the K1. Anyone know hoe to get round this or is it the way it is? Thanks in advance. Regards.

Agree with getting the K single figure cameras, but that said, I've a 12 year old K200d still chugging along with no issues.

Been off site a while now. Had a go at number 2 but too old and recovery too painful. But while trying no:2, i had a nice chat and now cured relapse pending. Not gonna buy any more stuff until something breaks. I think. 😉

All the time I've got a K1000 + ME super + a Mamiya 645 pro I cant see myself buy another film camera. Had a SFX years ago. Vaguely remember the grip coming loose but otherwise a great camera.

Thanks for all your advice. Some of the cures seem a good idea and I can always come back to this post for therapy as required. The shakes have stopped for a while after buying another lens. It'll be a good fix for a while I hope. I'm very honest with my other half. Most of the time she just does the raised eyebrow thing. Camera bodies are never noticed as the do look similar so I'm just economical with the facts. :) Thanks again

Good luck getting the K1. Sorry to say, I prefer the siggy over the tammy. That the only f2.8's I've tried.

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:14 PM ----------

Thanks. It does look good noise wise.

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:16 PM ----------

5 cents well spent. Fast prime is in my mind but a wider lens as venues are small.

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:18 PM ----------

To me, I expect the K1 would be the dogs danglies for all subject as I'm not that quick myself

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:22 PM ----------

I'll have it made equipment wise but then could do with the divorce 😊

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:24 PM ----------

Mmmm. I was looking at the 35 f1.4. The zoom reviews make it seem a bit querky.

---------- Post added 09-19-17 at 07:27 PM ----------

Thanks all for your help. Much to think about and things(pp wise) to try. X

Mornin all. I've found myself taking photos of live bands but in very poor light. K3ii+sigma 17-50 f2.8. iso 3200. The noise is too much for my liking so I'm wondering whether to get a faster lens, to hopefully bring the iso down, or carry on saving for the K1, which I've read is great for high iso's. Any advice from your experience gratefully received. Thanks.

Your kit will be fine, with a sturdy tripod, I'm sure. Photography is all about the light. Subjects and composition is all down to the photographer. Envious of your trip as never been there. A friend of mine did say the Northern Lights looked better by photograph than by the naked eye, o still try to get the picture. I sure somebody will confirm or say otherwise. Enjoy your trip and hopefully we'll see some of your results. Good luck

Sorry if I've repeated what's been said already. I've just grabbed my little nifty and gone for a walk in town. With only one lens to think about it kind of helps to see things differently. I'm also very lucky to also have a MX-1. Just taking that out instead, if I don't want the weight of of a dslr, provides a bit of entertainment. Hope you get your mojo back soon. All the best.

I don't think my 70-300 would have cropped as this did from the 60-250. I reckon this is the beauty of this lens and my technique isn't the worlds greatest :)

Hi. I'm lucky to have the 60-250. I use it two fold. One. Great iq,even cropped. Two. Walk about lens instead of gym membership. Not overly heavy but a good work out on a long walk, especially c/w a tripod. Thought about trading it in for the 300mm but couldn't bring myself to part with it.

Good shout. I'll blame the venue. 😊 What the pics don't show are two big pillars either side of the band. There is a side view but it put slightly behind them. I'll just put this down to a lack of experience with a dab of bad timing for being late. Must admit, other members pics show what the K3ii is capable of in the right hands. Here's hoping.

Thanks for that. Its clear I've got something wrong. Flash would have been the answer but as I said they'd already kicked off. Flash could have upset the locals too. Will learn from this for the next event. Leave camera at home and visit the bar more frequently 😉
