Pentax K3 & Digital Filters

I'm experimenting with Digital Camera Utility 5, I managed to tinker with the parameters to find the 1:1 appearance to my preview JPG from my camera. But I'm finding the software is not that optimised and might be to slow for my purpose, especially since I'm trying to emulate a specific look and have to consider my raws as being originally B&W.

I'll keep playing with it, unfortunately my workflow in editing negates using Topaz as I'll likely blow through the trail period.

Thanks all!

Pentax K3 & Digital Filters

Hello, I have a very specific question about the Digital Filters on the Pentax K3, but I am unsure how I'll put it into words so here goes.

I've experimented with some of the digital filters on my camera and am very pleased with the results. However, once I take the DNGs into photoshop I find that the filter isn't applied despite the thumbnail in Windows clearly show the filter. Is there some step I need to do in camera to sorta rasterize (for the lack of a better term) the filter to the raw or am I stuck editing the original JPG?

I hope someone can help, Thanks to all whom try!

Input On The Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar 85mm f/1.4

My prevailing concern I guess is I don't want to keep my subject waiting as I'm playing with my SLR settings to make up for an aperture ring and manual focus. It sounds as though I'll need to do a greater deal of test shots on the day to know our I'll need to set it up.

Since you touched on it, Gareth.Ig. Would an external flash help this lens in low light conditions?

Input On The Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar 85mm f/1.4

For a while now I've been researching for my next lens purchase for my K-30 for the purpose of Convention shooting. I'm leaning towards getting an Samyang/Rokinon/Vivitar 85mm f1.8 as its a bright portrait lens thats good value. But what's keeping me from pulling the trigger is the lack of autofocus.

I'm not unfamiliar with Manual lense, I own a 50mm from the film days that I use to experiment with; and I'm getting to grips with the K-30's Catch-in Focus setting. But would a fast, manual lens cope with a busy setting like a convention floor? Or is better to save up and buy the equivalent 85mm Sigma or even a short Tele instead?

In case someone brings it up, I have read up the few threads about suitable Convention lenses, and I'm not 100% sold on using wide angles in doors.

Thanks ahead of time for the advice!

Why Hello

Hello everyone, my name is Andrew, I'm from Calgary, Canada; and this is my brief story about me and my K-30.

I sell cameras for a living and last year I was all but sold on the getting the Nikon D5100; than one day my charismatic (and a little eccentic) Pentax Rep came into my work with a pre-production model of the K-30, and I was completely taken in by how it could do everything the Canon's and Nikon's did and more and do it for less. And I also loved how distinct Pentax was to the other manufacturers, how 'weird and wonderful' they were. I always enjoy introducing the new Pentax's to a customer who grow up shooting their film camera's.

But the biggest reason I love my K-30 is because when I bought it last August it was just a year after being hopeless destitute and unemployed, facing bankruptcy. So it was very significant moment for me to realize my life was finally back on track and my reward was something that would always gave me joy and fulfillment.

...I'm sorry that turned out longer that I had intended. So yea, I be honest I'm initially joining the forum for input on a manual 85mm f1.4 for shooting at conventions and such, but I think I could stick around and be apart this community.

Thanks all!
