Many thanks for posting the information. This looks like a pretty easy DIY fix for us tech types so I will open mine up and start with a de-magnetizing of the one part. An old fashioned tape-head demagnetizer should work great for this if applied carefully. Not worth the time and expense of sending it away and waiting when I can do this in an evening.
My K-30 was purchased new in summer of 2013 and got very little use because I also have the K-5 II S and other K bodies. So as I went to use my K-30 for some test shots... 3 years after the last time I used it, it had a total of just under 500 clicks when it failed!
The aperture control failure was immediate as I tried it this time. Never had an issue before I put it away.
So... it's possible that the component choices for that part may be less susceptible to being too permanently magnetized if you actually use the camera more often as the pulses may help de-mag that part and keep it from getting "sticky." If there's any chance of mechanical friction a trace of light silicone oil may help too.

I'm in a related boat. Tho not lacking for any kind of gear I've been eagerly awaiting a FF Pentax for a long time, as have many others. I shoot D800s, really like them, but I'm still waiting to see if the new FF Pentax will have features that will make it compelling to add to my arsenal of photographic tools. Things like pixel-shift multi-shot that would reduce color moire I'd find useful for hi rez still life images. 42MP with pixel-shift would be an immense IQ back with good lenses mounted.
IBIS to make further use of all my old film-era lens collection, native or adapted.
So yes, waiting to see what will become available and at what initial price point would be a good thing to continue to do.
I'm still hoping they'll bring out a fully compatible K-mount, but with a shortened register distance and OEM adapter barrel, to use with legacy glass and all other lens mounts could then be possible with adapters. I doubt they'd do that, but it'd put them in more direct competition with Sony's A7 series which some people are finding immensely versatile and capable. We'd have more options, Ricoh might sell more bodies, and maybe more lenses.

18 months later, Sony's kicking some butt with the A7 series, in good part because of the short register distance & IBIS providing buyers with excellent image quality and lots of lens flexibility, included full aperture, OIS and AF for many of them.
Ricoh-Pentax may have missed that boat I suggested they build.

I don't have any of the Sonys, haven't liked them enough yet, but I have a a kit of some high end gear. Despite that,
the Q series (I've got 4 of them) is still very FUN to use. They're versatile, small, could be a had for real cheap if you timed it right. Battery life isn't fabulous is the only real downer.
I find the Q7 a very capable imaging machine when attached to a decent lens and really hope they bring out a good, fast, dedicated macro lens for it around 20mm.
If you recognize the limitations and the benefits of these small cameras, you can really squeeze some great shots from them. That challenge can also be part of the fun.
Did anyone mention they're SMALL?... I have a Q7 & Q10 with half a dozen lenses (in padding), 2 spare batteries, charger & cord, extra SD cards, all in a miniature backpack-shaped bag that was meant to carry a toddler's handheld Nintendo game device. So it's about the size of a smallish ladies purse. If I leave out the charger and cord I have room for a folding tabletop tripod. Great for a super-light little hiking kit except the mini backpack I'm using requires a 20-lb sherpa to carry it or I swing it off one finger. :)
They're small with big IQ. You can plunk one in your garden to do a time-lapse shoot without it being obvious. Same for street-photography.
Cheap adapters attach manual tele lenses for super-tele results but you do need a good lens to adapt to it as the small hi-pixel-density sensor quickly shows the shortcomings of older lens designs.
Only thing I really miss on the Q series is something it's never had, and EVF. If the Q7 had an EVF it'd be the ultimate super-compact camera.

You might also find that Pentax bodies can meter a little differently than, well, pretty much everything else.
I haven't tried the K3 to compare, but every other Pentax DSLR I've used shoots a different exposure than CaNikon if you're used to shooting manually or manually overriding EV.

Looking at the results they showed, things were fairly close but the 645z still had a considerable edge.
HOWEVER - those were not optimum shooting conditions for the multishot function as that was not the most sturdy tripod, a longer shutter delay should have been used before it started to fire.
AND, the whole thing was shot from a wood structure they were standing on; that is not a solid enough platform for such high precision imaging.
Imaging-resource will have their comparison files from a proper studio condition I hope.
I just know from personal experience that even with a 10MP camera, I get floor vibration induced blurring if I'm not really careful with a tripod shot in my house. To be really free of system vibration I shoot with a massive tripod, directly on my concrete floor in the basement, and use at least 4 seconds to let the tripod shake dampen before the shutter operates.
I do not get as sharp a result shooting with short delays on the (wooden) main floor of my house. That deck they were on would be more rigid but the tripod was not and the delay was too short to be optimum.

I haven't done any direct comparisons of Q to Q7 for speed but I can say the Q7 certainly feels a lot more responsive with the same lens and the IQ is noticeable better. I really haven't pushed either one to their limits yet as I have 'big' cameras for those jobs.

in areas warm enough for convection (winter included) you'll end up with a lot more light scattering dust particles in the air in the late afternoon and evenings.
They begin to drop out near sunset, when convection stalles, and it can take hours before the air clears of these particles.
So morning light will have a different scattering characteristic than evening light, the latter generally being somewhat warmer.

the 2nd one is the diffraction corrected one
FWIW, the 4th one is just as appealing
I don't think anyone was really arguing that either method relegates the other to the dustbin of time, it's just another option.
A proper diffraction correction algorithm may be able to do a more accurate job, with fewer data-damaging artifacts, than USM.

My new silver Q7 with 5-15mm zoom kit just arrived today.. for $250!
I have the original Q and a few lenses and I really like the little thing tho I don't often use it. I normally prefer my larger sensor cameras for most of my shooting.
I've wanted to get a Q7 because of its larger sensor.
I find the IQ of the Q is a bit lacking with its tiny pixels but my Canon G series camera uses a sensor almost identical in size to the one in the Q7 and I've been fairly pleased with the IQ from it, even tho it's not that much larger.
I'm looking forward to testing the Q7 in a variety of situations and hope that it will match or exceed my old Canon (G11/12) at low ISO shots where i need clean, fine detail.
I hope there will soon be a proper macro lens (20mm f/1.4 or faster please) for the Q system as this is where i think it will really shine.

It was out of stock when I placed the order but it was filled within a few weeks.
If you can nab one for a price this good, get 2! :) It doesn't feel like plastic and I also find the Q7 body proportions make for a more comfortable camera to use.

I also prefer the middle example of the image.
The USM method increases overall contrast appearance more than I might want and is a sharpening method I rarely use unless I also want to increase that fine local contrast effect.

My local rep also stated Tamron's unlikely to supply K-mount version of the 150-600 or the latest 70-200/2.8 tho the older 70-200/2.8 may remain available for a while.

While that does look like ground-fog, it's pure dust; enough to make a person cough a lot. :eek:
You can't make it out in the photo but there's a gravel road in the foreground.
I set up and everything was nice but then a pickup truck zoomed along it at a good speed and raised an extra cloud of dust that just hung in the air for a long time.
I was hoping it would would settle enough to not detract from the image but it actually turned out pretty good at the point I took this shot, adding a little bit of depth to the scene.
