Something to compete with the Nikon Zfc, Zf, and Fuji X-T line would be a good thing. Pentax has always produced better looking cameras for less.

I saw the 70-210mm f/4 for a holiday price of $697 and started thinking about gearing up with that. Is it good for indoor sports on my K-70?

A teacher wanted a group photo of her students. I kept shooting when one of them got the giggles, which became contagious. I gave the teacher all of the photos and let her decide which one she like best. Guess which one the teacher posted to social media?

Thank you for directing to that. He makes a great point when he says on that page: "The essence of my work changes dramatically between what I recall later during a retouching process and what I perceive right there, on the spot."

The AF on my 50-135mm lens hunted also. It's not you. Too bad, because it was sharp with great colors and that was a focal range that I used a lot. If they come out with a PLM version for that lens, you would have a fantastic trio of fast focusing and affordable pro-level zooms.

6 Product Announcements so far in April

The Kf isn't competitive in the marketplace when it offers tech that is the same as its 7-year-old predecessor. Its autofocus system is the same as what was introduced in the K5 in 2012. At $849, the Kf is also $200 more than the K-70 was priced at launch. Absent a clear roadmap of where they're going, people who are waiting and waiting for a new K-1 should keep this Kf offering in mind, as they might find a new full-frame Pentax camera that gives them minimal upgrades at a higher cost.

I was waiting for an upgrade to the K-70 and what I got was the KF, virtually the same camera and $250 more expensive. So when the K-70 dropped to $476, I reluctantly got it so I can shoot in the bad weather. My Sony A6400 is on its last legs, but I'm not enthusiastic about getting another one because its terrible ergonomics make it joyless to use. The AF is great, though.

B&h k-70 $477

Mine came in the mail today and I was able to take some pictures briefly at a lacrosse game in the rain. Though I've shot with Sony for about the last 5 years, I've had the K-3, K-S2, K-50, K-30, K-X, and K10D. The K-70 seems a little less solid than all buy the K-X, but the autofocus seems a little faster than all but the K-3, although it is nowhere near as good as the Sony. Still, it is almost half the price of a replacement Sony and should be as good or better in all situations other than those needing fast continuous autofocus.

The $476 price is for the gunmetal color K=-70 that I ordered. Last I looked, the black and silver editions are still $526, which is still a great price for what you get.

I got the one with the free wrist strap. I need a new weather-sealed body as an alternative to using the aging A6400 in the bad weather. I figure the price can't go down much lower.

Best replacement/spare battery for K70

I had a similar experience with another off-brand battery for my Sony. I'm reluctant to use other brands anymore. It's not worth risking damage, and for what? A battery that doesn't
give you as many photos per charge as the name brand anyway?

Ditto. It's why I wouldn't buy a KP with interchangeable grips without trying them all out first. I'm not buying something expensive that I'm not sure about.

I would be fine if Pentax sold a camera like a GR, K-3, etc. with the same form factor every time (like a Sony A6XXX) but with different specs as options.
Full frame or APS-C.
Flip down screen, side hinge screen, flip up screen, no flip screen.
Pop-up flash, no pop-up flash.
GPS ... interchangeable grips ... choose your kit lens ... FPS ... buffer size.

The GR line is a little expensive, but I would be more than willing to invest in it if the adapters and conversion lenses had backwards compatibility with the whole line of GR cameras. Is that not feasible, and am I being naive?

I'm excited watching these videos. When I step back and look at the big picture, Pentax is doing really well right now. Look at the promising PLM lenses. My PLM 55-300mm was great, and for only $400, it is a real bargain. I got the 50-135mm lens for $900. If Pentax can sell an updated 50-135mm with PLM for $900, that would also be a steal because the only thing I didn't like about that lens is that it hunted a lot.

A K-3iii, 11-18mm, 16-50mm, 50-135mm and 55-300mm is a great kit for APS-C, and that's without even talking about Limited lenses.

Pentax needs more Ambassadors like the gentlemen mentioned earlier to show what is capable with the Pentax lineup. Yes, even Pentax marketing is starting to do well.

K-02 idea.

Would you make it APS-C or full frame? When the K-01 came out it was $800. An $800 full-frame K-02 would be the cheapest full-frame camera on the market. Canon is rumored to be coming out with a full-frame R camera in that price range. Call me biased, but I believe Pentax could do it and do it better without cannibalizing sales of the K-1.

Nikon Z fc

I remember picking up a Df in a camera store and thought it was a massive brick of a camera. Judging from the criticism of the Z fc, Nikonians want a full frame retro camera, but the Df failed, so I don't blame Nikon for taking a second swipe at the retro market with a much smaller APS-C version. The MX-1 was another stylish Pentax camera. Could Pentax fit a bigger sensor in that with a K-mount?

If the Z fc reverses Nikon's fortunes and sells really well, how could Pentax resist putting out a digital K-1000, MX-1 ILC, KPii, or K-02 with analog dials?

Will there be a Pentax KP mark II ?

The interchangeable grip concept was a deal-breaker for me. No stores carry Pentax in my area, meaning I don't have an opportunity to actually hold a Pentax in my hand to see if one of the three grips was good for me. But I can tell just by looking that the K-70 grip -- similar to the K-30, K-50 and K-S2, that had excellent grips and overall ergonomics -- would feel just fine. In this case, people considering a new Pentax would opt for a cheaper K-70 rather than a KP. The fact that Pentax would discontinue the KP and not the K-70 tells me the K-70 was more profitable.

What if the new Nikon Z fc sells very well in that $900-$1000 price point? A digital K1000 in design with KP image quality and specs might do likewise. How could Ricoh pass up an opportunity to sell a ton of cameras if retro design proves to be very popular?

Pentax K-3 III 1.3x Crop
Posted By larryaustin3

Rather than shoot video, I would like to try and make a slideshow of a sequence of sports images. Crop mode would save me from having to crop images of action at the other end of the field. The situation comes up in so many ways. Let's say I'm shooting near home plate and the ball is hit to deep center field, or there is a corner kick at the other end of the soccer field. If I could quickly switch to crop mode and fire off a 2-second burst, it would save me the time of having to crop 24 images in post. If I know I'm going to crop anyway, that would save me some time. I'm often shooting 500 to 1,000 images at a sporting event. All the time saved in cropping images adds up.

Maybe I could customize one of the user modes with this setting. This is why Pentax is so great. They offer options and customizability in so many ways. Sure, most people will never use it for their type of photography, but Pentax is designing cameras that offer solutions to problems I didn't know I had.

I'm with you on this. A camera shouldn't outrun the buffer. Frame rates are fungible stats. It's the maximum possible, but the camera companies neglect to point out that some advertised maximum frame rates are in s-af and not c-af.
Buffering is a function of the write speed of the card also, I imagine, so it's a case of ymmv. The cynic in me thinks camera company marketing departments advertise high frame rates as a sales gimmick. That and ISO 1 million.

I loved my K-01 Panda so much that when a Bumblebee was available, I bought that one too. It's the only camera I've "collected."
The main problem with this camera was it cost $800 at launch. Like you I bought the Panda (when Pentax dropped the price to $299) thinking I would use it as a cheap backup, but I ended up using it all the time. Between the Panda and Bumblebee, I've spent less than $500.

The Q system, K-01, K-S1, and all the colored K-30 and K-50 models illustrate how back in the day Pentax was willing to think outside the box. That's my main takeaway from the K-01.
