I know there's no implication on what the cause is...i just find it strange. Does the flash have any sync connections on the side so a trigger can be plugged directly into the flash? Mine doesn't, so if I need to use it for radio remote triggering, i'd need a hot shoe cable & adapter. I'm just curious, but what kind of wireless triggers are you using?

strange....that shouldn't be the case...i've never tried to use any radio triggers with my Promaster 7500EDF, but as long as you keep the flash in manual mode and you have a receiver attached to it, it should only be set off once it detects a trigger signal, not another flash. If it's in wireless mode though, other flashes will definitely trigger it.
**edit** ok, so I looked at the 7000 model, and it seems to be made for 35mm camers. It may require a higher sync voltage to trigger, which is probably why when you tried wireless triggers, it wouldn't work.

I support Cameta Camera, and I would like to strangle Broadway photo as well as all those bait & switch camera companies out there (yes, most of them are in NY). I once got curious to see how exactly they would treat potential customers, so when it was slow at work one day, I decided to call broadway photo. Extremely rude, obnoxious and condescending, they talked down to me and treated me like I had no idea what I was talking about. After I stated that all the things they are trying to sell to me separately are included in a kit on the actual manufacturers website, they told me just to go somewhere else to buy and abruptly hung up. Yeah, that was great.... ::rolling eyes::

I remember stumbling upon this site when I was doing my search for legacy lenses a few months ago. I have no idea in regards to the quality and reliability of the place, but it looks like they have a lot of nice used glass and even a few Pentax Shift Lenses. I'll try and check it out one day since it's about 20 minutes from home...that and i'd like to check out the 1.7x tele :)

Just Checked Ebay and found out that 47th St. Photo has the Sigma 70-200's DG II HSM for $749.99 with 19.95 S&H. A little late for me since i've just ordered mine from Adorama, but hey, for those who are thinking of purchasing one, this may be the opportunity for you guys! Supposedly 6 are available....
One thing that threw me for a loop though. The title states it's for Pentax, but in the description it's Canon. On the website, the Canon mount is also $749 and the Pentax Mount is $809. Maybe someone could call and verify what exactly is correct and let us know? Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO AF Lens for Pentax - eBay (item 360092126825 end time Oct-01-08 17:52:04 PDT) |

wow...i think the attempt at some humor went and backfired. The whole zoom with the feet thing is funny to me. We all know that shooting the same scene at, lets say, 17mm will come out completely different if you backed up and shot it at lets say, 135mm.
Let's take what people say with a grain of salt shall we? :)
Oh, and I'd probably go for the Sigma 24-60 and the gap filler....hey at $200 constant f/2.8, that's a deal.

I called Samy's Camera a month or so ago, and I was told by their Main Location in Los Angeles that they will no longer carry Pentax products...that hurt and also made me feel like switching to another platform. However, i'm still a Pentaxian. I'm gonna wait until after Photokina and see what other news may come up.

I can't wait to hear how this performs. Actual shooters experience with this lens will be the factor in whether I pick up the sigma or the tamron. I've got my pennies saved, now i'm ready to burn it!

OK....so, who's gonna be the one who pulls the trigger and buys this? I've been all gung ho about purchasing this the second it came out b/c i've been wanting a 70-200/2.8 for a long time now, but I've been having a serious case of diarrhea of the wallet recently. I'm waiting to see real reviews from other peoples perspectives for this generation Sigma for K-Mount. Plenty of reviews for the Canon and Nikon mount....and i'm wondering if the Pentax mount will be any different....
As a matter of fact, i'm probably gonna try and rent this for an upcoming track day at Willow Springs to see how it performs!

IIRC, it works off the screw Drive. The Advantage of the Sigma is that it has HSM (SDM) built into the lens, so if the camera body has the capability, it'll focus quickly. I'm leaning towards the sigma...so dpreview didn't have the highest regards for it, but i'm interested in the HSM focusing.
I don't know if BH has the Tamron 70-200 in stock. I don't even think it's been released yet...

Well, I fully admit I have my K10D rig up for sale in the photographers marketplace, as much as it pained me to do so, since I love it and it serves me well and it helps me learn...a lot! Now Sigma has the 70-200 shipping soon and it's official news on their website. I'm a much happier camper now, and will be less likely to jump ship to Canon as I thought I might.
I just hate waiting sometimes...

I love my giottos screen protector. Fit perfectly. I just can't remember the model#, but when I was at samy's, they let me take it out of the package and line it up, so I made sure to get the right one. It's sturdy, very clear and does it's job. I'm sure you'll like it when you get it

First off, I love my K10D and what I have with it. It's been extremely helping in building what little skills I have and it's gotten my interest in the craft of photography soaring. It's probably one of the best values i've found and i'm happy I purchased it when I did (price drops plus rebates galore = happy me) However, there's a few things I've noticed that have made me think twice about sticking with pentax.
- I like to walk into brick and mortar stores...and more often than not i'll walk out with a random, impulse buy. However, it's becoming difficult to find stores locally that stock Pentax. I recently called Samy's a few days ago and found out that they will no longer carry Pentax anymore, and this is from the Los Angeles location (I tried to haggle on the DA* 50-135, but they weren't game....)
- If i'm out with friends shooting, and I didn't bring an appropriate lens for the shot, can i look over to my friend and borrow their gear? I'm the only one of my friends that shoots Pentax, so my selection of what i can shoot with is limited to what I carry in my bag...and I carry everything, but there are some scenarios that I need different glass.
I guess to really sum it up, it's immediate options and availability that's turning me off. Not to mention, I've been set on getting either the Sigma or Tamron 70-200 and it seems like it being released this year is a pipe dream.
Until then, i'm keeping the K10D and learning as much as I can with it!

I'm a n00b right now, so i'm pretty much making myself use M mode all the time. However, when I was up in the canyons shooting motorcycles, i'll use TV. But, i'm mostly in M so I have to think about how I wanna approach shooting. I'll probably use the other modes soon though, since shooting manual isn't always an option when you need "that shot"

There doesn't seem to be a shortage of short and midrange glass for Pentax. From what I have seen, it looks to be the fast telephoto/supertelephoto spectrum that doesn't have enough glass for us Pentax users. Granted, there will be the DA* 200mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 coming out, but that's been a long time coming.
I'm personally waiting for the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 Macro and get a 1.4 or 2.0 TC. The estimated Price @ Adorama is $699, so i'm stoked about that...if that lens EVER comes out.

I'd stick with the K10D and beef up my Lens Collection....get some Fast glass and use that for shooting in low light. I personally don't find myself shooting at the higher ISO's. I will rarely shoot at 1600. In terms of the D200...yes, it's a great camera, my friend has it and he loves it, and well, I dig it as well, but save your money and invest in something else. Also, as a major rookie, just keep shooting. I'm very much a rookie myself, but i'm going through reading as many books, tutorials and what not as possible. I'm also going out at different times testing myself.
Anways, just my 2 cents.

It's not the fact that it's an SDHC card. I have another 4 gig Transcend SDHC card that my friends computer can read from/write to fine. Here's a rhyme: PQI, do not buy.

Hey guys, I need your input on this one. The other day, my friend needed to get some data out of his computer, but a CD isn't big enough and he doesn't have a DVD player. Additionally, he left his memory stick at home, as did I. So, he asked me if he could borrow my K10D and a spare memory card as temporary solution to transferring the media. So, I put in my new pqi (yes, a cheap brand from Fry's Electronics) SD in the camera, transfer over the video files from his computer to my memory card, and test to the content. The Video ran fine streaming from the memory card to the computer. So, I give my friend the memory card so he can upload the video from his card to his computer. Later at night, he says he's having problems accessing the data using his PS3, either of his computers, or an external card reader attached to a computer. After work, I drop by to test the card and I get a "Memory Card Error" message on my K10D. Ok, my SD card is cheap and i'm not surprised it's toasted, however, I did notice there were visible marks on the contacts, like scratches that run parallel to the card. I don't know if that's what might have caused the memory corruption, but I find it strange; none of my friends memory cards have these visible marks, but both of my memory cards that have gone in the exhibit this, but work fine. Have any of you guys experienced this before? Should this be something to call Pentax about?
Thanks in advance,
-Mark

Wow...what an eye opening thread to help unravel the smoke and mirrors marketing plan. I currently don't have any need for blazing speed as i'm more of a hobbyist and enthusiast and my budget is limited, but I do like tech stuff and tech specs know this will help with decision making for future purchases.
