Just some random shots.
If she is sad and drinking alone her posture could be more closed... Almost fetal.
Based on her openness you could almost add another glass to the picture and make her a little more prone. On side and legs slightly open. Add a dress shirt on the floor.. Or a tie and the mood might be a little more focused.
Cool shot though. ---------- Post added 04-10-2016 at 07:43 AM ----------

Really curious to have a follow up from you on the 16-85. I am in a similar predicament.
My situation:
Started with 40mm ltd. loved it. 2nd child arrived and thought I needed zoom. Purchased 16-45. Zoom was nice, but really missed the 40mm quality. Purchased 50mm 1.4 locally. Love it. It is typically on the k5iis now. 16-45 is nice but I love the pics of my daughters with primes. I am now in the situation of just shooting primes. 20mm or 35mm on the short end and maybe a 70mm to compliment my 50mm. The other option being a faster 17-50 or the 16-85.
My focus is on pics of my family, and bokeh and sharp centre is important to me and the prints I keep.
Please let me know how the 16-85 works for some of those portraits and if you still feel the need to put on the prime to get that 'shot' you really want.
Really appreciate it if you had time for a follow up. Thank you.

Lensandshutter: thanks for making the aggressive jump into online retailing. Great to see small shops adapting to the new style of shopping. Great pricing translates into big volumes. You'll learn from this.
I'm down in Nelson and will be getting my moms new Metz soon. Would've been a sad moment to receive a cancellation.
Happy New Years!

always tough capturing candid photos of kids during everyday life. I was stoked to get this shot of my beautiful daughter, mya, and my wife, amanda. The window of time to get this shot was half a second. A photo that friends and family love, and a photo that is a nice keepsake for my wife and I....photography is a wonderful thing!

B-Clam,
Season is done up here, and my wife is set to deliver our second child in the next couple weeks. Needless to say, but I'll be quite busy and there is no way I'm going to be allowed to head out for a tour.
Flip me a PM in Winter 2014/2015 and I'll show you around whitewater. If I can't get out for a tour, I'll line you up with someone.

As of lover of skiing mags, I hope I can add a little. More scrambled thoughts.
The vibe I get from your shots are more backcountry skiing / ski journal. More artsy shots that tell a story. Nothing that would pay with a cover photo....yet. Your photos would have to be paired with a trip report.
1) I like the shot. Nice contrasts. id prefer the tone to be less warm.
2) good ol skin track shot. Definitely looks like a cascade powder day. You need to come to Nelson for the good stuff:)
3) get what you were going for. Might now have the gear for that shot. With the wide angle, as a viewer, I would have preferred seeing your buddy air out of the shadows off the ridge, or drop one of the cliffs while casting his own shadow.
4) really cool line. Great shot. I would've preferred him isolated with a small depth of field with the lake background. You were bang on with the shadows....just find the mountain scape takes away from the line and the skiing.
5) nailed it. I prefer my snow white in photos, so the warm tone doesn't appeal. Tell your friend t get brighter gear
6) ski journal artsy. Agreed, less flare would be nice.
7) my eye likes it. A local would put that shot on canvas to remind them of that area and the epic days they have had there.
8) I think your friend should be the focus. Cabin kinda takes control of the shot. Seems like it'd be a portrait shot with the cabin in the background.
9) like the shot. What a great looking chute. I think a telephoto from higher up would give a better feeling of tightness and steepness.
10). Meh....
You take great photos. Most important thing is that you are out there and getting after it. Good job.
Hope to see some more pics of your adventures.

For those k10 users out there thinking about upgrading. I made the move to a k5iis. Ridiculous difference. I keep oohing and awwing. My wife thinks I'm 'different'
To the point of the original post. I had bought a used 16-45 for my k10d. It was having back focus issues...consistently. Bought the new/used k5iis and it is consistently catching the right focus. With the k10d, I was upset with my purchase and the lens underperformance. With the k5iis, I now know why people speak highly of the lens.
I loved my k10d. It was my first dslr. Won't forget it but I also won't be looking back. ....technology is unbelievable.

Had a peak at my menu. I was one notch away from the highest setting. I could say that I'll recreate the shot to confirm that the settings were the issue, but that may prove to be quite difficult.
Have a grea tonight and happy shooting.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
I had just recently tweaked my sharpening and I believe a little contrast. I will place back to neutral. Thank you. I would have never guessed.
The first picture is one that we will show mya when she is older and have a good laugh at.
Thank you all for your ideas and feedback. Fabulous community.
sincerely, matt

thank you adam. It seems like a shadow on the one side, but on the other side there is a white outline. No post-processing. Taken as jpg and posted as seen.
strange regarding the photo attachment. I searched and found the stickied thread on how to attach photos. Still did not work for me. Thank you for the explanation though.

Happy Easter.
I was snapping photos of my daughter as she ate some watermelon. I noticed a weird bordering in the photo, that seems to have been caused by the window behind her. What is it? Is there a technique I can use to avoid in the future?
Photo's taken with a k10d w/ a Pentax F35-70 [3.5-4.5]. Metz flash was on as well.
[first image]: See around her arm and the watermelon.
[second image]: This photo was taken minutes after Mya's She-ra moment. Nothing out of the ordinary here:
I have these in my album, but have no idea how to link to them there.
Appreciate your help.
Thank you. matt

Another vote for the M50 1.7
Take a peak in my album. I just posted three pics from today. I picked up my M50 for $30 from a pawnshop. Love it. Find that I'd rather play around with it vs. my DA 40. The DA 40mm takes some beauty shots as well. Manual lens just seem fun to play with.

Child on the way. Looking to get a prime for low light conditions. This lens has to go. I have really enjoyed it, but obvious in low light it is not fast enough for the shots I want, and I do not have the funds to have a bunch of lenses. Thank you for looking.
I bought this in 2008. I just like taking pics. The lens got used at random times. Always kept it in its case. In the past 4 years, I've only taken it off the camera once. That was last week when I put my kit lens back on in an attempt to figure out what focal length I want in a prime.
Included:
- lens ... obviously :)
- hood
- both caps
- filter
Serial Number: 9089202

well. Here is some news then.
I was using the raw button to switch back and forth between RAW and JPEG. I might have to go back and buy that camera I returned, as it seems to be a bit of an anomaly.
I saved $150.00 going with the the current body. I can't believe I passed the previous body up though. I am going to go back to the store and track down the camera I returned. Will update on here if there is anything special in the settings that allowed me to switch back and forth. I can say with 100% certainty that I had this functionality ... as I just transfered the last pics that I took with the previous body off the memory card to format it for the new body and they were all RAW pics that did not have an identical JPEG.
any help out there from folks who have had this ability and know how they did it. Sounds like it may help a bunch of folks out.
