i had both lenses before ... in both cases the lenses were rather below average based upon my ownership from many years ago
the Tamron had fringing issues and but the sharpness was acceptable but the overall result seemed a bit drab
the Pentax just isn't very sharp but makes up for it with better colors and more contrast
i'd try to get a 55-300 which has better colours and sharpness but slow as molasses autofocus

i loved the lenses, absolutely recommend that you complete the set :D
it was just the pentax system wasn't for me in the end ... although with this FF thing going on, i would have loved to try the "3 Kings" on a FF body but by now i believe the lenses are too overpriced

used to have the 31, 43 and 77 ... the 43 (and the 77) are weak in the corners open, technically the 31 is the best lens out of the three. the 43 and 77 have a more "unique" charm and more specialty lenses imo
but using the FA's on crop always seems like such a downgrade esp if you have the chance to use them FF

i was looking into those batteries too! i guess i should just order them up since the included batteries are so weak
i'm on the fence about the grip i think i can manage for now without it

just picked it up yesterday ... it definitely is an interesting camera, i don't think i could ever use it as a primary camera, esp as the X100 excels in so many more situations and is much more point and shoot

raising prices -> more buyers? i always look back and think about jumping back into pentax but the prices of lenses don't make any sense
even if there is a "special" premium for the water sealing, limiteds, etc.

buy it ... it works and the quality is nice and does not vignette. yes cheap ebay hoods could probably work but when you screw it on, it may feel gritty and it's not a comforting feeling on the FA31. however it will vignette on full frame.
their 49mm hoods were also very nice on the FA43 and the FA77 and it worked for crop or full frame. for the FA43, you can use it as a replacement for the provided hood (i.e. NOT how i show in the photo).
the biggest reason for using these hoods is that you can use standard lens caps instead of the silly felt lens caps which look nice but are expensive to replace and get loose after lots of usage.

i've handled a 645 in japan and at the henry's show earlier this summer. it acts and behaves just like a pentax camera would. the fun part is checking out the output, but inside the exhibition hall is certainly not ideal circumstances.
mark me down as a maybe for this one now. hopefully if the weather is nice i can check out some airplanes by the wendys after.
