I don't have any experience with any other lenses in this range. I recently bought the 55-300 and it has really good image quality for the price, but I'm not at all impressed with the auto focus, it's slow and tends to hunt, sometimes going all the way out and back in before it finds the focus point. It is also very noisy. I also had the 18-135 and it had much better auto focus.

The auto focus on the 55-300 is horribly slow for sports.

I get the zoom creep with mine about the same as it was with the 18-135.

I have even had condensation problems with a Nikonos when going from an air-conditioned room outside into hot muggy conditions in Panama.

I broke my 18-135 and just replaced it with the 16-85. I find the 16-85 a bit sharper in the corners but it doesn't focus as well as the 18-135 and is definitely more prone to flare. I've been getting some nice photos with the lens, but still figuring out it's idiosyncrasies. It is also seeming like the sweet spot is around f11 compared with f8 on the 18-135.

That last image is magnificent! Well done. I have a new 16-85 coming any day and that shot really makes me excited to get my hands on it.

This was sadly, the last photo from my 18-135, which was destroyed when I took a tumble descending a pyramid. I am hoping that the body is ok, but that was my only lens, so I have no way of testing it. There is no obvious damage and I have ordered a 16-85 as a replacement. The photo is of an original, 1500 year old Mayan mural in the ruins of Bonampak on the Usumacinta river between Mexico and Guatemala.

They weren't in fear, it was and old woman selling corn on the sidewalk. I think that she was just brushing back the little girls hair. Thanks for the nice comments.
