Thanks Big Mac, I appreciate your thoughts. I suppose I was spoiled by Nikon with my old F and M models that just kept on working.....they still do today. Digital tech just is so much more complicated that more is likely to go wrong more often.

Well, a few days ago, one of my K-R's was unusable due to crazy mirror syndrome all the time and pulled it out today, put in a different memory card and battery and now works good as new. Was it the North Carolina humidity? Perhaps it prefers the New Mexico dry air. Seems more likely that it has a preference for certain batteries and memory. They both work fine in the other camera, also a K-R. Just can no longer depend on Pentax so this is the last one I plan to buy. Will go back to a Sony or Canon.

Started with this issue about 3 years ago, was repaired but started again within months. Now just cannot use the camera because it is all the time, like every command has shorted out to the shutter.control. Will try to see if Pentax can do anything.

My son and I both bought a k-3 about a year ago. His serial # is 4239891 It was purchased new on Ebay. So it was manufactured prior to those listed with this problem so far. The mirror flops from the time you turn it on and with each action or button you push as well as at times continuously until the battery is depleted. It now appears that one battery may be dead, perhaps as the result of the problem. It started while on vacation in India about three weeks ago while on portrait mode, but may have been video. The same problem occurs with a good battery. I did cal pentax who suggested I send it in for repair which I will do in a few days and hope that the problem is resolved.
We both love the K-3 and hope to have many more years of fun with it. I was a previous owner of a Sony Alpha a200 which I also loved for different reasons.
